Apparently the two main human characters in TF4 have now been cast (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/brenton-thwaites-and-nicola-peltz-join-the-cast-of-transformers-4/26358/)... by two people I've never heard of before. (which could be a good thing, so that the robots are the stars, not some over-paid celebrities)

Looking up the pair online though, fans of Home & Away will recognise the guy (Brenton Thwaites (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brenton_Thwaites))... yes, another Australian joins the Live Action Movie universe of characters.

Nicola Peltz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicola_Peltz) is a daughter of a billionaire businessman, who is likely to be an investor in the movie.

It's interesting to see that the two are about the ages of their characters (as opposed to usual young characters that are played by people 5-10 years older). Nicola (the student) is 17, while Brenton (race car driver) is 23.

I think you need humans and a story in the following context

*Humans - put a couple in for scale, then have them stomped on before they can say anything :D

*Story - get the Transformers to actually converse a bit about why they are smashing each other - THEN have the next few hours of robots smashing robots ;)

Problem is, he says no about everything until he wants to make the announcement on his own schedule. If someone announces something before him (like Mark Wahlberg being in it), he denies it... and then two weeks later announces it himself.

Meanwhile, 'Transformers 4' Reality Show Begins Casting Chinese Actors (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/transformers-4-reality-show-chinese-449206) (The Hollywood Reporter, 2/5/2013)

...
Paramount’s novel experiment in using a Chinese reality show to help cast Transformers 4 is getting a welcome reception.

Between 50,000 and 80,000 Chinese citizens are expected to enter the competition to win four speaking roles opposite Mark Wahlberg in the summer 2014 film, which will be partially shot in China.
...

Ganis said it is also undecided how significant the roles will be in Transformers 4 but he indicated the winners will have speaking parts that will be somewhat prominent.

Paramount are really keen on making inroads in China with the next Transformers Movie, with some of the cast being reserved for Chinese actors, and will be filled through a well-publicised reality show (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-just-movie-31/transformers-4-reality-show-begins-casting-177398/).

With the previous Movies taking in about as much as they can from Western countries, this is one way to tap into a new, massive market, to earn more money even if the next movie doesn't do as well in the rest of the world.

Sophia Myles to Join Mark Wahlberg in Michael Bay's 'Transformers 4' (Exclusive) (http://www.thewrap.com/movies/column-post/sophia-myles-join-mark-wahlberg-michael-bays-transformers-4-exclusive-89661) (TheWrap, 6/5/2013):

Director Michael Bay has tapped British actress Sophia Myles ("Underworld") for a major supporting role in Paramount's big-budget sequel "Transformers 4," TheWrap has learned.

...

While the studio is keeping her role under wraps, an individual familiar with the script has told TheWrap that Myles will play a scientist. She recently attended the Los Angeles premiere of Bay's "Pain & Gain."

AND:

Exclusive : Gibson on Transformers 4 : ‘Looks like an appearance might happen’. (http://moviehole.net/201364301exclusive-gibson-on-transformers-4-looks-like-an-appearance-might-happen) (Moviehole, 6/05/2013):

Though the new Transformers film – the fourth in the series, headlined by Mark Wahlberg rather than Shia LaBeouf this time – will be largely with new cast and characters, director Michael Bay does seem intent on connecting the resequelboot to the previous three films – either by way of a storyline bridge or the odd cameo. One actor from the previous films we know is returning to do a turn is Josh Duhamel, who said recently his ‘Lennox’ will pop up in a cameo.

But what of Duhamel’s on-screen buddy and soldier colleague Epps, played by Tyrese Gibson?

Speaking at the UK junket for “Fast & Furious 6″, Gibson said while he hasn’t been signed to reprise his role he expects he’ll be involved in the same sort of capacity Duhamel will be.

“It’s looking like an appearance might happen”, the actor said, but stresses “I haven’t got that phone call yet, officially. We’ll see what happens.”

“Transformers 4″, due for release in a little over a year will star, aside from Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Kelsey Grammer, Jack Reynor and Stanley Tucci.

MEGAN Fox is pregnant with her second child.

The 27-year-old actor and her husband Brian Austin Green are expecting a new addition to their family.

The couple confirmed the news through their publicist Leslie Sloane Zelnick today.

"I can confirm Megan is expecting her second child with her husband Brian, they are both very happy," Leslie confirmed to the New York Post.

Megan and Brian have a son, Noah Shannon Green, who was born in September last year.

The actor has recently been filming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the new Transformers movie with director Michael Bay.

The New York Post reports that Megan is in the early stages of her pregnancy but has kept the news quiet on set so it didn't interfere with her work.

"Transformers 4" recruits 4 Chinese actors (http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/entertainment/2013-08/28/c_132670713.htm) (English.news.cn 2013-08-28):

BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- Hollywood blockbuster "Transformers 4" has selected four more Chinese actors to star in the production after a televised four-month-long auditioning process, China.org.cn reports exclusively.

"I want everybody to have fun," Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the film's producer who has produced all the Transformers movies, told China.org.cn about the producers' decision to recruit actors through a TV contest aired on the China Movie Channel.

"We are always looking for different ways to learn about other cultures. This is a great way to see people's passion and excitement. It allows for everybody to have fun together," he added.

Byron Li, Austin Lin, Candice Zhao, Teresa Daley eventually won the much-coveted movie parts Sunday night on the "'Transformers 4 Chinese Actors Talent Search Reality Show," launched by Paramount Pictures in cooperation with Jiaflix and the China Movie Channel in April. The contest was open to both professional and amateur actors, attracting more than 70,000 contestants.

Byron, who hails from the Chinese mainland, is a young actor and model who has graduated from the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing. He won the role of Kung Fu fighter; Candice, a model who won the 35th Miss Bikini International Pageant China, got the role of sexy goddess; Austin, from Taiwan, who has a professional background in Taiwanese TV shows and films like "Somewhere I Have Never Travelled," got the role of computer geek; and Teresa, who has appeared in several Taiwan TV shows and movies such as "Winds of September," won the role of cute Loli.

The panel of judges included Sid Ganis, former president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science and present chairman of Jiaflix Enterprises; Lorenzo di Bonaventura, producer of "Transformers 4"; Lindsey Bayman, senior vice president of the Business Affairs Department at Paramount Pictures; Megan Colligan, president of Marketing and Distribution at Paramount Pictures; and Liang Longfei, vice president of the China Movie Channel's official movie website M1905.com. They saw contestants compete for the four roles through a small drama role play and several personal talent shows.

The producer said the contest winners will receive some training and start working on the production by late September or early October.

Chinese movie star Li Bingbing and pop star Han Geng have already signed on to star in "Transformers 4," one of the most anticipated new film franchise releases to be directed by Michael Bay. There are six Chinese roles in the film, but the producer didn't reveal how big the roles will be.

"We don't really look at it that way, " Lorenzo di Bonaventura said, "For us it's an opportunity to get new talent; for new talent, it's an opportunity to experience [making] a big Hollywood movie, I think it's important for both sides and not about how big or how small something is."

"In America, we wouldn't cast a brand new person in a big part; we would give him an opportunity. But I don't want anybody to assume that 'because you are Chinese we will not give you big roles.' Young talent gets smaller roles; they get to grow from there, they get noticed from those. That's a very important part of the Hollywood process," he added.

He also confirmed there would not be a special movie version for China like "Iron Man 3," but the final cut will be submitted to Chinese censors and it's up to them to make changes.

"We certainly appreciate China's 'Transformers 3' box office," Lorenzo di Bonaventura said, "We found we had huge success in Japan, South Korea, China and Malaysia. The Asian markets are really embracing Transformers. Obviously China is the largest among them."

2011 smash hit "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" took in US$1.1 billion worldwide, including US$165 million in China alone.

Bonaventura explained why they chose to film part of this Transformers movie in China, "One of the reasons we shoot the film here is because Michael Bay has a vision of what should happen in the third act, so we need a place that can deliver that. Only very few places in the world work. The only Asian place we could find to [actually] do what we were hoping to do, was China. So we made the decision and it was a creative decision."

The producer said they have already built a China town to resemble Hong Kong in Detroit to film some Chinese scenes.
