The newest Transformers fan in the world - Orion Samuel Hopkins!

Born 19/12/12 at 1.31am. 4.25kg. My wife is the most beautiful and brave woman on the planet after going through everything she did to get him out safely!

Yes, the 'Orion' was reference was intentional. My wife liked it because of the added constellation reference and 'Orry' is a good blokey nickname. The 'Samuel' - we didn't even think of the coincidence until 3 nights ago. If we had meant to go down that road, his 2nd name would have been 'Spike'. Still, makes his name even more Transformery I guess :)

Done (http://otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?p=332382#post332382). :) Are you using photobucket in their new Beta mode? Because I find that really confusing and hard to use, so I just switched it back to the old Photobucket format (it's somewhere in the settings).

Thank you everyone for your warm wishes and congratulations :) Despite the massive hit this will give my TF budget I think I'll survive being a Dad - my giant crate full of FOC, GDO & TFPrime toys showed up from BBTS yesterday and did not even think of opening it ;)

My wife Sarah finally had a good sleep last night and little Orion is beginning to feed and sleep well. I have a friend coming up from Bendigo today and he is bringing me 3 issues of Spotlight: Orion Pax (with the cover of young Orion at the front and Optimus in the background). 1 issue for me, 1 to read to Orion that he can eventually destroy, and 1 to put in a frame up on his wall :)

Cheers guys! The complete lack of sleep takes a lot of getting used to. And here in Swan Hill we have 6 straight days of 40+ weather so it's a matter of keeping little Orion cool.

But something wonderful happened yesterday - he actually fell asleep in the bean bag with me when I was playing FOC, so to not disturb him I had to stay in that spot and play for another 3 hours ;)

:)

How was his first day?

Not fantastic. Pretty miserable for the most part as it's the first time he's been without one of his parents for any length of time, and apparently he fell over during the day and hit his upper gum which then bled :( And one the old bats that runs the place thinks he's getting conjunctivitis and was crapping on about how he cant come in if he does. Wanted to turn around and yell 'You let my son bleed from his mouth on his first day, and you are lecturing me about a possible eye infection!?!' But these people are going to be looking after him every Monday from now on so best to stay on their good side.

On the upside he has been even more happy and affectionate than usual all evening as he's so happy getting fussed over by mum and dad :)

A word of warning as a parent. As soon as he starts going to daycare he will get sick a lot. Both my kids did because so many parents were lying about their kids being sick and sending them to daycare anyway.

But that was at a very bogan centric day care. Our oldest is now in primary school and we switched our youngest to a much better facility a few months ago.

Looking at that photo I would say his in mid-giggle... or just farted. Farts are funny :p

From everyone I know who's had a child in daycare, those facilities are where the Human race will build it's global immune system. or the mega strain of something will mutate from and wipe us out.

My wife used to teach in the Campbeltown area and the parents there used to bring the kids in in the morning, obviously very sick. My wife would tell them that the kid cannot be at school that sick and the parent needed to take them home. The parent would then leave and my wife would have to follow them because they would try to take the kid to the office and drop them off there. Once she chased the parent calling after them and the parent pretended to be talking on her phone and actually ran to her car to get away.

Keep in mind these aren't parents that work so have no-one else to look after their kids, these a parents that are unemployed going home so they can drink beer and watch TV

^Yup.

I know that in neighbourhoods like mine where there are a higher number of unemployed parents, day care centres are closing down. Just a few days ago one of our neighbours who has a daughter who's the same age as ours and attends a local day care centre told us that the centre is closing down. :( I've also heard from people who've worked in these centres that a lot of the kids there are really difficult to handle - a lot of them already use bad language (some of them seem to speak Swearing more than they can speak English) and behave violently.

In complete contrast, my daughter attends a day care centre that's closer to my work. It's in a neighbourhood where most parents are holding down jobs, many of them professional careers and day care is in high demand. We had to put our daughter on a waiting list the year before she started day care. Kids there are generally well behaved and motivated to learn. They listen attentively to their carers, follow instructions, know how to line up etc. Just last week I saw a white girl singing songs with a carer in English and Mandarin Chinese - they were singing in English at first, then I heard the girl say, "Okay, now let's sing in Chinese!" and she happily switched languages. :)

I actually caught chicken pox off a student 5 years ago, the parents sent him in even though he seemed sick. I was in bed for 6 weeks and still sport chickenpox scars on my face to this day :(

Yep, working at a specialist school we get this constantly. I've even had a parent say to me "The school holidays are in two weeks. She can stay home and get better then". The parent didn't give two damn's her daughter was spreading flu throughout the school. She just didn't want her daughter at home to interupt her drinking and watching bad daytime TV.

My 25 y.o niece works at the Daycare centre that Orion is attending. Not in the same room but it gives us some extra piece of mind to know that a relative is only a few seconds away. The Daycare (or learning centre) is the best one in Swan Hill, but that's out of a total of 3. And because it's the nice one we were on the waiting list for 7 months before a 1-day-a-week opening came up.

Well you folk were right. Orion went to Daycare Monday, a couple of days later he had bad diarrhea that then his mother suffered from yesterday and then decided hit me at 2am this morning :( Guts are feeling bloody rotten today. :(

Think it's the first time he's passed something onto us instead of the other way round so pretty sure it came from Daycare

Yeah, but remember - Jenny McCarthy says that immunizations gives kids Autism. And I know personally I go to soft-core porn actresses when I want the truth about medical matters

Oddly enough I did two years at the Autism Teaching Institute and never once in my course did they bring up the immunization thing - lax on their part I guess :p

Seeing the smiles and sense of wonder on kids' faces as they enjoy their toys = one of the best feelings in the world. :)

Honestly I can't wait to have kids, the look on their faces is priceless.

You should have seen his face when he came outside to see he had a brand new trampoline :):D

I can't wait to get that reaction in two and a half weeks time after Dad has been up half the night putting her trampoline together for when my little one turns three as well :p
It's a good time isn't it BTT, they are now old enough to grasp the concept of Christmas and Santa and all the fun stuff from when we were little. It has really made this time of year so much fun for our little family. (Plus my birthday is this coming week) So it's presents central :D
