Please read carefully before voting on the poll

Who is eligible to vote in this poll?

Please only vote in this poll if you have over 1000 Transformers in your collection (according to the Universal Counting Method) and you have already voted "1000 or more" in the Primary Poll (http://otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=15072).

Please round your collection count to the nearest 500 and vote accordingly. For example, my collection count is currently on 1662 UCM, thus I've rounded down to 1500 and voted accordingly.

Thank you.

I have 1135

Gee, in this poll so far I think I am the only one that has ticked the 1000 box so you guys are beating me! Who has 5500 or more!?!?

...that's a good question. griffin would be the only one I can think of who'd be close to 5000, but I don't even know if his collection would exceed 5500... and I've yet to seen anyone verify having a collection in Australia that's larger than his. I should really have made this sub poll not anonymous. I made the other polls anonymous so it doesn't look like a "peeing contest," but I think once you've passed the 1000 mark it doesn't really matter anymore. Does anyone know if there's a way I can edit the poll to make it non-anonymous? (or can a staff member do this). Or perhaps whoever voted on 5000 and 5500 could just identify themselves (they can PM me if they don't want to publicly known). I'd hate to have to redo this whole thread/sub-poll again in the event that someone may have deliberately contaminated the data. :(

I think remaining anonymous is the go, some people aren't comfortable letting The World know how big their collection is. Sure this may leave the poll open to some abuse by cheeky buggers putting in huge figures to skew the numbers, but as with all surveys this has to be taken into account.
One would think that most people will poll honestly on here though

I have 1261, which means I get to round up to 1500 and make my collection seem far more impressive than it actually is. :D

Wonder what counting method whoever he/she used? Still, 5500 + seems bogus:p

I'd like to trust people -- after all, we're adults here. I'd hate to think that any grown man would intentionally try to thwart this poll... but yeah, 5500 seems improbable.

So here's the deal -- could the people who voted "5500 or more" please send me a private message letting me who you are, and we can sort it out privately. But if there's no attempt to verify these claims, then I'm just going to disregard those results when I collect the results. I think that's a fair compromise.

I knew a guy once that was into collecting Transformers and he told me that he had about 100. Knowing this to be BS, I called him on it and asked that he list everything. The list included t-shirts, CD's, DVD's etc :p

If I use the skullcruncher method I am over 10,000!! Winning!!! :D:D:D

But there are many collectors in Australia who do not activly participate on this board for a variety of reasons. So 5500 wouldn't be out of the realms of possibility.

Not impossible, but considering that griffin has the largest known collection in this country (and I don't think even his collection would reach that under the UCM), if someone is going to claim that they have a collection size that can rival or even exceed the largest known, then I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for confirmation. And a simple PM would allow for discretion if these people don't want to be known. Just a simple PM saying something like, "Yeah, it was me, I have 55XX Transformers under the UCM."

To me this is becoming a little childish, who cares if someone says they have that many TF's when no one else on the boards knows about it. I'd hate to say it but this isn't the centre of the collecting Universe in Australia, not to mention we have foreign collectors on these boards.
Granted there are many font's of information here but some people don't give two stuffs about 90% of things that people talk about.
Just let it be, someone claims they have a collection as big or bigger than someone else on here, so what! Its doesn't change a thing. The second before the unknown person clicked that box, Griffin had the biggest known collection in Oz and the second after the button was clicked he still had the biggest known collection in Oz!

As I have previously stated if someone is just playing funny buggers it is part of any research project. There will always be people out there clowning around, no matter how adult and serious they may be in the real World. I have worked with brilliant Doctors around the planet and the minute they walk out of their work environment they are total tards.

Where’s a like button!! Collecting isn't a competition and the UCM is indeed flawed, it can be interpreted in different ways by different people. I cannot see any reason why these threads persist except for the self-pleasure of a few who feel having more transformers than other collectors is something to be proud of - which is ridiculously childish.

Seriously guys??! Every year we have a UCM poll and every year people see it as an opportunity to voice their negative opinion of it. That ship sailed a long time ago when EVERYONE on OTCA voted on the guidelines. Also, it's anonymous if you want to keep it that way so I don't get where the comments about 'who has a larger collection' comes from. If you consider that to be childish, we may as well remove all the individual collection threads on the board.

Bottom line - if you don't like it / agree with it / aren't going to provide accurate figures, go post somewhere else on the forum. Goki puts a lot of his time into this so please show some respect.

EVERYONE? Really!?! Sorry but thats like saying there was a poll on the government in 2007 and 66% supported them. Therefore we all must still support them!

You're missing the point. We're using the UCM as a way to compare data year-on-year therefore if you change / alter the parameters a direct comparison between years can't be made. Candidates running for election change therefore what you are describing is a completely different scenario. Also, no one is forcing you to 'support' and / or take part in this poll.

Ok so a census would be a better example then. Questions and parameters are tweaked/adjusted every 4 or so years right?

This is covered in Goki's post for the Primary Poll...

...the articles in the UCM continue to reflect what the majority of participants voted for. Thus the UCM is based on a majority consensus.

He also mentions that there have been a few new polls since the introduction of the UCM. You can read the rest of it here (http://otca.com.au/boards/showpost.php?p=332647&postcount=1).

I know this hasn't degenerated and side-tracked, like it occasionally has in the past... but as I've posted before (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?p=321909#post321909), if you are like me and don't have an interest in the UCM or it's statistical purpose (not an egotistical/boasting purpose), then please stay away... walk on by and leave others to participate who respect it enough to contribute valuable data each year.

If people are intentionally voting to ruin the statistical data of this project, their membership here could be jeopardised, as vandalism of anything on this site can lead to termination.

When I answered 1135, I was going by my own counting method (which would now have me at 1142), and had neglected to take the UCM into account (should have read properly). However doing it the UCM way I would still have over a thousand so hopefully my contribution to the poll still stands :)

Considering that this sub poll only rounds to the nearest 500, weather you counted 1000 or 1135 doesn't matter that much since they both 'round down' to 1000 (and thus the data isn't affected). :)

Perhaps this higher poll can be restricted to established members (not newbies with zero posts), who can be more trusted to vote responsibly or can be followed up if necessary.
Those who are "newbie" status who have never posted here would then be removed to prevent vandalism.

Sounds good. Will this become a new poll option for higher ranking members or should I go through board staff to have the poll thread made for me?

griffin
10th January 2013, 12:35 AM
I don't understand what you are saying.
All I was suggesting, was to have a condition on the 1000+ poll, that Newbies (Rank 1) can't vote. After the cut-off date for the poll, people who are Rank 1 would then be removed from the poll.

GoktimusPrime

Would I need to make the poll non-anonymous, or are board staff able to edit polls to remove any Rank 1s who may have voted? I'm just trying to understand how your idea would be implemented.

The poll can remain anonymous. An admin would then have to find it in the database to see if people of a certain rank voted, and then edit it.
