Images of in hand product samples. Frenzy's weapons can apparently be held by Soundwave, and supposedly so can his Hammer Arms.

Looks like this is ready for release, why delay it to 23rd march?

The more I see, the more I want MP-13 and his minions...

I'm sorry but these look crap. I'm assuming they are the final versions as they are pictured with the box and instructions. If they are, people will no longer complain about paint app problems on MP Sideswipe ;) In fact, I'm predicting that in the next year Takara will move away from the AM sticker sheets in favour of little paint jars.

The only saving grace for these is that they are the same size as the G1 cassettes which I will be displaying with my MP Soundwave.

Many better photos here (bbs.actoys.net/read.php?tid-1240103.html) ... unfortunately highlighting some pretty shoddy chest paint work.

Hope it's not widespread... whilst i've been lucky with all my MP's to date, i have to wonder just what are they doing to get such shoddy paint?
I have a couple of Super Robot Chogokin figures from Bandai and they have pristine paint right down to the tiniest sections. Not a single scuffy line on the whole toy - Bandai make it seem like anything's possible (even at very small sizes), but looking at some TakaraTomy toys you'd definitely think otherwise!

Edit: We might be jumping the gun a bit:

I heard from my "sources" that people are again getting into the factories making these and that's how we're seeing these pictures. They're rejected figures that people are getting and selling apparently. Which explains the bad paint and such. I'm fairly certain this isn't gonna be a huge problem with the regular release figures.

They look quite shoddy on paint apps, but like Optibotimus said, apparently they are rejected ones. We'll see. Not enough for me to absolutely want them.
My encore cassettes suit me better.

They're meant to be "samples" that aren't meant to be available to the public. I think they do them as an incentive for retailers to make orders, but the final product may vary.

The Frenzy in the first lot of pics looks ok, but the one in the second lot is terrible. I find it hard to believe Taktomy would release one with paint aps that messed up. Guess we wont know for sure till the release date.

Still keen though, based on the fact I thought the last two MP's were good. I reckon these will still be better than almost everything else Hasblow releases this year, which these days isn't saying much sadly. :(

They look pretty good, I'll probably get them

So they are going to be FIBRIR (Frenzy is blue, Rumble is red) ?

And screw what the package says, I'm calling 'em what I likes.

Interesting gimmicks, guess it makes it more tempting to get the repaint set.

Damn straight! I don't care what the TV series or toy lines call them. For me the blue one will always be Francis, and the red one, Reginald.

I preordered mine a while back, so I'm suckered in. :p

So they are going to be FIBRIR (Frenzy is blue, Rumble is red) ?
Yes, because in the Japanese version of the G1 cartoon the blue and purple robot was called Frenzy and the red and black robot was called Rumble. So they basically corrected the FIRRIB colouring mistake from the US cartoon, and as such the whole "FIRRIB/FIBRIR" debacle just doesn't exist in Japan! (cool, huh?) The real "annoyingly unresolvable fan debate" among Japanese fans is: Serikawa Akira (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Akira_Serikawa): boy or girl?! :p (officially he's meant to be a boy, but the cartoon model is androgynous and the manga drawing is very effeminate; Akira can be a boy or girl's name, depending on the Kanji, but this Akira's name's always been written in Katakana in official canon!!)

Of course, the weirdness about the Japanese correction of FIRRIB means that Frenzy goes around with Rumble's power to make earthquakes... but then again, we never see Frenzy use his audio powers in the cartoon (Soundwave uses it once in "The Ultimate Doom"), and in Transformers The Movie both Frenzy and Rumble have piledriver arms! So I guess it's a rather moot point since in the cartoon Frenzy seems to have been treated as being a 'twin' of Rumble with the same ability... which is a shame, because his "Wail Like A Banshee" power is pret-ty damn cool :D

Micross and Macross. :o (that's about the long and short of it <rimshot>)

I like them. Very nostalgic and articulated.

They are very nostalgic looking but I think that's also a reason for me not to get them - they are too close to the original G1 cassettes. IMO a MP toy should be the ultimate incarnation of a character, not virtually the same toy with a few added points of articulation.

The link in post #1. Text is in Japanese, it says that these are factory sample products.

They are also pretty damn expensive too. I got them on pre-order discount, and even then I'm finding it pretty rich. :( And as you said, they don't seem all _that_ different from their G1 counterparts. I initially wasn't going to get these... then I saw them pop up for preorder discount on Amazon JP and thought, "Ah screw it"... :o I caved... but I can understand if others are still hesitant on getting these toys.

Without being able to read Japanese, how credible is the source though i.e just another fans speculation or is he / she an employee of Takara and the one that took those photos?

It's speculation, although Nakashima-san is a long time fan and he's pretty reliable. :) But I guess we'll know for sure in 2 and half months' time. ;) IMO nothing's ever 'official' until the toy's properly released.

I felt the same way with MP Grimlock... it just seemed to be an up-sized Gen1 toy with more articulation. MP Soundwave is likely to be the same, for all it's simplicity of just turning into a squarish block in both toys.
I like that there will be some MP toys that are more "playable" than "puzzle"... in that, these smaller ones are quick enough to convert to play with them, and not just sit on the shelf after a couple initial conversions.
The MP concept should indeed be more "puzzle" than "play" in general, but it's difficult to imagine that the smaller ones will be able to be engineered into anything super-spectacular if they have to remain in-scale.

I think these have the right balance... so look forward to getting the complete set of 'Con & Cassettes.

I think they could. Just look at WST as an example.
