Displaying tips?

Hi all, I've noticed that my collection is getting quite full on my shelf so I need to do some rearranging. I will be getting a detolf soon for figures such as MP Prime and G1 Soundwave, but other figures such as my classics will be in large abundance in the future, so I need a good way to display them so they look good and can all be seen.
I have looked at several other collections and have noticed that some go for a very neat classics collection, with points of elevation. Is there a good way to do this, or should I just put objects of ascending elevation behind each other?
I have noticed that some put them all together. Can you see them all? I have done this with my Cybertron collection, seeing as they have varying sizes, but my classics collection does not have varying sizes, so this might not be the best option.

What is your input and the best way to display? :cool::D

I used to put them in different points of elevation as well as having tall bots to the back and short bots to the front. If you having limited space there is never much else of an option. I found the same issue when displaying my Classic/Universe, and just had them all lined up shoulder to shoulder, but even with a very long shelf it's all but impossible.

Something I have tried in the past which you may enjoy is groupings - e.g: All your Ultra Magnus figures together, all your Sunstreakers etc. Usually they are all different heights (for example with Sunstreaker - Alternator at the rear, Classics & G1 in the middle and Robot Hero at the front) and it usually looks cool to see how these characters have changed in the TF multiverse.

I hate having to obscure items by having more than one deep on a display shelf, but as a collection grows and space becomes a premium, you have to make sacrifices.

As you've noted, have the taller figures at the back to see as much of them as you can.
If the set or series are all about the same size, and you don't want to have figures standing on blocks to vary the heights (to show off their similar, unaltered size scale), have them on a shelf with a lot of space above it (adjust the next shelf above). That way, if they are all about the same size (like a collection of Generations/Classic-verse that are mostly Deluxe class), you can look down over them more without the shelf above getting in the way.

Also, alternate colours, to prevent one colour from being grouped together too much, effectively "hiding" a toy in the middle or back (like a "where's Wally" picture).
Unless of course you are going for a "character themed" displays... which aims to look impressive from a distance.

Thanks both of you. I think I might move my classcsi TFs to a different, lower shelf and use blocks to seperate them at different heights. Any recommendations for objects to use as elevators?:D

Something solid and coloured either grey, white or black (wood is also an acceptable option if the shelves are wood as well). Any other colours tends to mess things up

Things I do:
+ Taller figures behind shorter ones.
+ Toys grouped according to series in "retconned/repurposed" chronological order. e.g. my 1984-series Decepticon shelf has all my 1984 Decepticons, plus reissues of Decepticons from that year, and Decepticons whom I've repurposed as belonging to that year-series (in the Gokiverse :p) e.g. Sunstorm, Cobalt Sentry etc.
+ Where I have multiples of the same mould, I display one in robot mode and the other in alt mode (if space allows). e.g. reissues are usually in robot mode, originals in robot mode, original G1 Tracks = robot, Road Rage = vehicle, BT Sunstreaker = robot, BT Dead End = vehicle et al.

I must admit that I don't use elevators/raisers for figures who may be obscured by a same size figure standing in front of it. But I guess that it's probably because display aesthetics isn't the primary reason for displaying my figures, but rather because it's just easier for me to access specific individual figures when I want to play with them (function over form). :p

i use perspex risers, they are see through and hide very well and they come in different sizes. i also chose cgass cabinets as i love em :0)

Another option for deluxes or smaller is Obitsu's multi stand (http://www.hlj.com/product/OBTMLST-A01C). It comes with parts to allow many display options---I like to use it to display some jetformers flying in their alt mode. Deluxe figures would probably be straining the upper limit of these stands though; mine are very wobbly when you nudge them. We'll see if they hold up over time. Still, they're cheap and good for posing.

Hey guys....one advice that i give all that have a room dedicated to a display , please paint the wall a dark colour , black if your game but any dark grey is good , it would make the room walls fade away and bring forth your collection heaps better .Making your toy the centerpiece , And if you don't like it you can always repaint it :) But you watch when your collection have more life to them !

hmmm really? Maybe that's what wrong with my collection room as Ive got it painted aqua blue. although the glass shelves I have em on is black tinted, unfortunately it's shadowy so the figures at the back part tend to just not pop in sight. Someone said to me once - "What if my collection came to life (ala toy story) what would you do?" I guess he thinks Im gonna freak out in panic:p.... I said , "Great! Id have less things to do then around the house as with an army of robots they can clean the dishes, do my laundry, clean their room and themselves, dust the house and provide home security :D:D"

Bidoofdude, I recommend those Obitsu stands as well as I use them when posing my Beasties in action poses. Their strong enough to accomodatethe deluxe Generations figures if youd like them in action poses like flying or jumping with their swords on attack.

I use them for my DCUC figures the same way and those are heavy figs, just need some balancing at times. :)

But, for G1 figures the risers are the way to go as they don't have much articulation anyways for a "dynamic action pose" display :). Best just have them in tallest at the back to smallest in front but have them in alternate position that way the ones at the back can still be seen well unlike if you just line them up in a straight line from front to back.
