This is a great day! Fantastic news - I've been waiting for an MP Prowl release since since picking up 20th anni MP Prime back in late '04!!! Yes my wallet will hurt, but...just yes!! :D

What a great day. First I find out my MP Soundwave has been posted. Now this MP PROWL! I love Prowl! and Smokescreen also a must have.

I had a feeling that prowl wouldn't be far away. It's strange that they are doing smokescreen ahead of bluestreak. I would of thought that prowl would be paired with bluestreak and smokescreen get a release later in the line. Maybe with smokescreen being used in prime Takara figures that the name would be more recognisable and popular. But I'm sure bluestreak will be either mp-19 or in the low twenties

Prowl is my fav Autobot so I'm pretty stoked to hear this news. I will definitely be pre-ordering him!

Bluestreak is a given, it's very easy for Takara to give it a new head and slap on a different colour, what surprises me is that they are doing TigerTrack before Breakdown or even a G2 Swideswipe.

I can't see them doing any of the combiners as stand alone toys. If they do decide to do them then they need to be able to combine or it won't be doing the character justice. For the most part that's what the combiners are characters are best known for, combining.

This is good news indeed! I find Prowl a bit more interesting that Sideswipe or Red Alert so they certainly have my attention!

Hmm. The Binaltech Smokescreen figure 10 years ago gave us a masterpiece level update of the original toy's transformation; it just never got the Prowl deco (or the G1 Smokescreen deco). Apart from the colours and maybe a size decrease I'm not sure what the new figure will have to offer. Definitely a wait for pics for me before I'm excited.
I'd be happier to hear about Prowl, Smokescreen and Bluestreak being released in the Encore line.

According to BBTS (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/takara-masterpiece-mp17-and-mp18-announced-prowl-and-smokescreen/26612/), MP-17 Prowl is to be release in July, and MP-18 Smokescreen is to be released in August.

Just read the newsletter from BBTS myself - it's awesome news! If on par with the size of MP Sideswipe I still think it's a tad pricy but still great to hear. Apparently they are doing a Masterpiece Tigertrack (the yellow version of Sideswipe) for $100 as well.
Personally I'm waiting to see if they do a Hasbro version of MP Soundwave before I lay out those kind of bucks.

Bad news for my wallet, Prowl is the second Transformer I ever had, and arguably my favourite original G1 toy, should fit in nicely with Sideswipe and MP10.
Still wish that would do Sunstreaker too though.

These are cheaper than the third party releases and I consider them better. It's a pity we have to pay so much for them. We created our own monster with pricing forking out the equivalent on the third parties, Hasbro and Tak/Tom aren't as stupid as we would like to believe.

Technically we created this monster when we paid $200 a pop for Grimlock and Rodimus. From that point on it was pretty clear they could charge collectors the big bucks for toys with an MP label on them.

Agreed. That's the original price instigator that made it clear to all sides what collectors were willing to pay. Let's also keep in mind that neither toy is really worth that price, specially Rodimus with all the design flaws.

Good for others; clearly by what has been displayed by the rest of the thread, there are a lot of people looking forward to MPs 17 & 18. :)
Personally, I've had literally no attachment to any of the original Nissan Fairlady-based characters and honestly find them rather forgettable in the face of others such as Jazz, Sideswipe & Wheeljack, so on so forth. :o
Really glad to see so many faces light up though in response to what has otherwise been a pretty sour note with Hasbro's mainline offerings; Good for you guys, I look forward to seeing the mass onslaught of Acquisition Thread photos come June/August.

I never liked the universe/henkei prowl mold (doors popping off, crappy feet and awkward head/neck piece) so hopefully the MP will be more appealing because he is an important character.

TT is definitely going full on to make it a "regular" series perhaps more than 2 new molds per year depending on scale of the project (casettes versus Megs 2.0..)
the Nissan license is probably among the easiest to get. too bad we probably won't see a VW beetle Bumblebee anytime soon..
P.S. really feel that Shockwave is among the next new ones..

Hmm. The Binaltech Smokescreen figure 10 years ago gave us a masterpiece level update of the original toy's transformation; it just never got the Prowl deco (or the G1 Smokescreen deco).
I have seen many customs using that mold to produce a Prowl deco (http://www.figurerealm.com/userimages/customs/12500/12107-1.jpg) and would be more than happy if the MP version was just a scaled-down version of that toy.

Given this trend toward the G1 cartoon models shown by Lambor and Alert, I wonder if Smokescree will have a complete head resculpt and unique shoulder guns?

Given what they did with red alert I can't see them taking a short cut with smokescreen and not do the alterations.
I hope smokescreen gets packed with a stack of energon chips and that thing he used to cheat the pokies in the cartoon

I'm really not minding the decrease in MP size over the years now that Prowl has been announced. Seems easier and cheaper to wait this out than pay ridiculous prices for the Universe 2.0 deluxe, and have him as Classics Prowl.
Bluestreak depends entirely on how sexy his deco looks.

I think it was just a joke or it is possible that they are serious about a 'tape recorder' Shockwave . We don't know the legality of Hasbro doing a Shockwave toy that resembles the Astro Magnum.

I hope that Smokescreen will be a retool too -- I don't mind if the missiles are the same, but I'd like a retooled head and body kit. I'd also like to see MP Bluestreak too. Ideally I'd like to see MP Bluestreak, Prowl and Smokescreen all with different heads as per their cartoon models. I can accept the Classicsverse figures just being straight repaints, but for MPs I would expect retooling. Binaltech/Alternators managed to differentiate the heads for these three bots, so I'd expect Masterpiece should at least match that standard. :)

They've been pretty good and making a few extra parts to differentiate Alert from Lambor, so there is reason to be hopeful. Technically that could probably get away with just giving Bluestreak a different head crest to Prowl, But Smokescreen would need more significant changes.

TFW (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/japanese-transformers-40/masterpiece-17-prowl-silhouette-teaser-image-176912/)
Another update this evening from Takara designer Shogo Hasui's twitter account. This time it's a silhouette teaser image of the upcoming Masterpiece 17 Prowl figure. Shown completely in black, this figure is due for release in July. Subsequent mold reuses will come in August as Smokescreen and in September as Bluestreak.
Hopefully, this will be a short lived teaser and we'll get our first view of the full prototype in the near future.

I think they might be included in the box, but not featured too much on the packaging or pictures... because the Hasbro release will be more likely "toy accurate" as opposed to TakaraTomy focusing more on being "cartoon accurate" (as can be seen with the Grimlock, Rodimus, Skywarp and MP1 Optimus).

So what are the chances of this seeing a Hasbro release? We haven't seen anything on Sideswipe and Red Alert apparently due to licencing issues so would the same apply for Prowl and co?
Also I think there is a good chance Prowl will come with the shoulder rockets as both Smokescreen and Bluestreak have them in the cartoon so I reckon they'll at least be an option with Prowl.
That then poses the interesting question of transformation and how the rockets will be incorporated, or will they just be detachable like SS/RA?

Masterpiece
Prowl (July-2013)

Sideswipe came with piledrivers, Red Alert came with Crazy head sparks... so?
