View Full Version : Masterpiece Soundwave to be released in Australia in July

Could be early days yet but this is the response I got earlier today from Hasbro when I emailed them my query last week:

Hi Michael, I am sorry for the delay in responding. I have checked with a colleague who specializes in Transformers. He has confirmed that the Masterpiece Soundwave line will be sold in Australia through Toys-R-Us, but not until July 2013. They are expected to sell in Toys-R-Us from July to September. Kind regards, Hasbro Consumer Services

toys r us also told me that they will be bringing in fall of cybertron grimlock LIES also the hasbro version hasn't been announced yet.

Keep in mind that this was an email from Hasbro, not Toys r Us. I've emailed them (Hasbro) a number of times in the last few years and they have always told me the truth regarding releases in Australia. The optimist in me is keeping fingers crossed that at worst they may have slipped up and maybe told me something that will be revealed in the near future.

The timing sounds about right for a Hasbro version. And it would have been really surprising if there wasn't a Hasbro version.

If it is going to get a western release and I've never doubted that it would we should hear about it at America's toy fair soon

Waxpython

maybe this is too soon i mean people are still buying the takara version hasbro would lose a lot of money if they announced it now and it may piss of a lot of alot of people who bought it if it turns out it's equal or even better to the takara version.

Could we change the thread title to "in July" :) Stop us running to the stores today.

Actually running to the stores now and camping out is probably a good idea given how the Primes sold out so quickly.

Certainly interesting news indeed, should it actually come to pass. ;)

I am perfectly content with the Takara Masterpiece that I've purchased, but if I see one of these Hasbro Toys on shelf locally & for a reasonable price?; I may just pick it up. :)

Cheers Macky for doing the leg-work on this one dude.

it may just convince me to pick one up at all if it can be had for a reasonable price and I actually see one. I'm yet to lay eyes on a MP Thundercracker

It'll be great to get my hands onto a Hasbro MP Soundwave since the Japanese one is so pricey, hopefully TRU will put out a reasonable price tag for him like the past few MPs. It seems somewhat weird to me that if this is indeed the Hasbro version, that it's coming out so soon after the Japanese release.

How long till a Yankee based site sees this and goes ballistic? :p

I'm surprised that we haven't heard anything from Hasbro regarding this yet, since it is only 6 months (or so) away. It'll be a big money spinner if it does get a release. Wonder if TRU will order more after the quickfire sales of TC and Prime?

Given the short supply of both MP Prime and Thundercracker last year (with high demand) I'm glad I just bought my MP Soundwave from RK. I'm happy that they're releasing a Hasbro version for people who can only buy locally - I'm just not counting on them being easy to find or buy, going on last year's debacle!

Hehe, I'm a Soundwave completionist so far as I am aiming to have one example of each Official mold that Soundwave has received - This allows me to not have to worry about the multitude of repaints the bloke has received. :D

In answer to your question; depending on the funds at the time I may just pick another up, TBH though I'm pretty damn happy with the Takara version. ;)

The variances in the toy's composition & pack-in goods will indeed be intriguing, as I wonder if they'll decide to change the hue of the Blue & if they'll change his optics colour from Red to Yellow? :)
The possibility of multiple included cassettes is interesting as I wonder if they will choose to include just the humanoids or the beasts? - Possibly a mixture of both?

All I know is that the packaging alone has me curious so I actually have a reason to be interested in the Hasbro release, we'll have to wait & see though I guess.

True, A lighter Blue hue would be good. It worked for the MP 10 Mass release here. I prefer the eyes be yellow, though he has them red in the toons.

We need MP Ratbat Hasbro!! that and that cassette Probe thingie that exploded in the crystal caverns!! That would be much better than that hand vacuum attachment :p

Well considering Hasbro's history with their MP releases, they have changed nearly every MP release they have put out (not 100% sure if they changed anything on Skywarp)

So if you think the Takara version is perfect, best to save for that because obviously while nothing can be confirmed until we actually see pictures, the odds are that something will be changed. Best to prepare for it. ;)

I think they might do a slightly more vibrant shade of blue. Maybe not the visor but I can definitely see a general colour change.

3rd February 2013, 05:21 PM
Colours on Skywarp were slightly different, but noticeable when next to each other.

The purple plastic parts are darker on the JP version, and it has a couple silver paint apps on the arms. The Hasbro version has red paint on the air intakes beside the robot head, to match the Gen1 toy.
The wing stripes are different - two purple stripes on the Hasbr version, but only one on the JP version.
The most noticeable difference though is in Jet mode, with the tail fins being purple plastic with the Hasbro version, while the JP version has black plastic.
At least the two Thundercrackers and white Starscreams were different moulds, to distinguish between the Hasbro and JP versions.

Hasbro's MP's have been very geared towards toy-accuracy rather than cartoon accuracy but I believe they will follow cartoon accuracy for the optics like they have done with all(?) their MP releases thus far.

Not for me ;) There's no denying the value in the Hasbro release but as I've said before, aside from Laserbeak, the cassettes hold no interest for me as I consider them to be inferior when compared to the original G1 toys. Heck, even Generations Ravage is better than the MP Ravage.

Not for me either, but for different reasons. The cassettes do interest me, but the fact is that I've already purchased TakTOM MP Soundwave (it's sitting in Japan awaiting shipment to me). My Cassettrons are on preorder, but if I cancel them I just end up with a cassetteless Soundwave, but if I get the Hasbro version I'd get the Cassettes, but with an excess Soundwave and Laserbeak. So for me, in my current situation, it'd be cheaper for me to keep my existing pre order. I guess I should just be glad that I paid the cheapest prices that I could find for my Soundwave and Cassettes -- $126 for Soundwave and $67 for the Cassettes, so $193 all told. Yes it does mean I'm paying $43 more than what the local version would cost me but considering that my Soundwave has already been received, the horse has well and truly already bolted for me.

If I hadn't already gotten Soundwave, I'd cancel all my Japanese preorders and wait for the local version. But yeah... "It's too late for me, Luke..." :p

Paulbot
11th February 2013, 11:19 PM
I'll probably cancel my tape order and sell my MISB TakaraTomy Soundwave and buy the Hasbro version. This is why I never rush to open things. Well one of the reasons anyway.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the packaging will look like. Will it be similar to the commemorative edition with a book style box, or the universe edition with a large window to display all the cassetes? Personally I'd love to see a box that is soundwave in tape deck form, with the two side halves able to slide open (like the MP-10 coin card) to reveal a window where SW and his minions can be seen.

Either way, there's no emoticon that adequately conveys my excitement at this. Can't wait for him to be released!

Thanks for the thought Hursti :)

They said that it's going to be shaped like a tape deck, so maybe?:o:D
