Okay so to help me make a decision about whether I give Takara my cash for MP Soundwave, I decided to email Hasbro about whether there will be a Hasbro release of MPSW or not and just got this reply:

Hi Michael, I am sorry for the delay in responding. I have checked with a colleague who specializes in Transformers. He has confirmed that the Masterpiece Soundwave line will be sold in Australia through Toys-R-Us, but not until July 2013. They are expected to sell in Toys-R-Us from July to September. Kind regards, Hasbro Consumer Services

I spoke to ToysRUs for confirmation.... and yes, it is coming... yes, it is from Hasbro... and yes, it is spectacular.

Arriving in stores in June/July, is Soundwave for AU$150 (definitely not the JP version at that price).
And it will be packed in a box that looks like a giant, blue (Soundwave) cassette player.
No word on it's contents though.
Since it is the same price as Masterpiece Optimus, it is likely to be US$100 in America.
(reason why we haven't heard anything about this from Hasbro yet? - they don't often show off retailer exclusives at Retailer Toy Fairs, unless it is something special... so we might see it at the US Toyfair, but since BotCon is in June, we might not see much of this before it gets released)

Now that's not all...
Bad news - no Sideswipe or Red Alert on the horizon. (doesn't necessarily mean they are not coming at all - just not before Soundwave)
Good news - a second Hasbro Masterpiece is being released with it. (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=15359)

SO is that gonna be the Hasbro Version ei? Not the Takara sets sold in TRU.... wonder what stuff they will change - coz the Takara on has for accessories - Meg gun, 1 chest grid display, 1 empty energon cube, some random hand blaster attachment, his guns.... I wish theyd make more of them empty energon cubes ;). If they make him with Ratbat cassette as well ( included with Laserbeak)... Im buying a second one heheheh

That is provided they don't disappear quick like the MP Optimus.

I think a Hasbro version would look quite good in package, what with all the accessories and that. I would be happy with them taking either option- as long as I get an MP Soundwave.

Excellent! For once I actually held off spending my $$$ in case a cheaper version came out and it looks like that has paid off!

Now if I could only go back in time 8 months and tell myself not to spend over a grand on a G1 Fort Max because they will be re-releasing him

Given that MP Soundwave has only JUST come out in Japan, and Hasbro Australia are planning on selling it here in July-September, I'd say it's more likely to be an imported TakaraTOMY version. i.e. Hasbro Australia have obtained permission from TakaraTOMY to directly distribute and sell that toy here (like they did with MP Ultra Magnus, MP04 Convoy /w trailer and Ghost Starscream).

My concern is that if it's a TRU exclusive, it may not be cheap... because TRU are kinda inconsistent with the price policy of their exclusive Transformers. e.g.
+ Well priced = MP Starscream, Rodimus & Thundercracker
+ Expensive = MP Grimlock and Optimus Prime
+ Ridiculously Overpriced = MP Ghost Starscream, G1 coloured Deluxe Jazz, TRU exclusive Universe Voyagers (e.g. Darkwind, Countdown etc.)

I personally hope that MP Soundwave will sell here for the "well priced" range... because honestly, if it hits $150, you might as well as well import it yourself. Costs about the same and you get the toy sooner. If you're gonna get a local toy later, then you ought to pay less (I'd say $130 or cheaper). Perhaps someone would like to get in contact with Hasbro or TRU and see if they have any idea about how much they would like to charge for this toy?

If this does end up being a true Hasbro version (not just imported as Goki suggested above), this is great news for anyone who can't afford the Takara version... assuming it is cheaper. Heck, I may even buy another just to support local distribution :D

This is interesting timing for a Hasbro release of Soundwave to come to light, given that Takara's version is already shipping from the main online shops (including mine) within the last week. What will be the big curiosity is will there be any changes/additions to the accessories. Would be interesting to see if some of the upcoming masterpiece cassettes get added to a Hasbro release.

A pity about no Sideswipe or Red Alert, which is odd considering they I would imagine be cheaper than their incoming Decepticon figures. But if they are aiming for a popular figure and therefore get sales to test the water on their potential release, then Soundwave first is a logical choice

Ok 150 for soundwave is a good price and I will be getting him 110%:D
Also I might get acid storm since it most likely it's a repaint of the other seekers:p
SOOOO STOKED!!!

I think the bulk of the JP Soundwave sales will have been made by now anyway, due to the hype and the expense... and the stragglers who get a toy later due to word of mouth, wouldn't be many.

I think TakaraTomy (and online stores) would have preferred a window of at least a month of "exclusivity", but the pre-order sales so far seem to be pretty good.

You've certainly come up trumps with the details on this one Griffin. I've left getting the Takara one alone so I can get a Hasbro one. Now I'm all excited and aprehensive - really hoping it's not short ordered like MP-10.

Hmmm. I got an FOC Soundwave for Christmas and been using him as my Classics Soundwave. But if this is getting a local release I may be tempted.

And by 'may', I mean will be getting this when it's released. Well if he's not huge.

Griffin with the major news, what a champ. I'm going to make the following assumptions:

1) Yellow eyes
2) Will come with three cassettes - Laserbeak, Ravage and either red or blue cassette man.

hmm... the Takara Soundwave ended up costing about $175AU shipped so I'm actually not happy with how much the Hasbro version costs for us.

the Takara MP-10 was about $250 to get shipped here and the local Hasbro TRU was $150. (I got mine for $135)

Yeah but I have a feeling that the Hasbro version might come with more than 1 cassette.

Since the global sites are missing the confirmation by TRU, and the extra details relating to the box and the pricing (so aren't believing it is true), I've added them into the first post. Probably too late now that the news has passed globally.
