Generations Voyager Sandstorm confirmed?

Apparently there may be a Sandstorm figure coming out this year which will NOT be a recolour of Springer. This is going by the box art on Metroplex and also Hasbro's live customer chat. Fingers crossed!

comparing the boxart to springer's helicopter mode - it looks like there's some extensive retooling. to me the cockpit and most of the front really looks mostly the same.

I just hope he doesn't have the toy's ugly faceplate in robot mode. Give him the animation/comic model's proper face (or the option to switch faces like Blitzwing).

I think it'll be a cyberverse toy, all the other figures on the front of the box look like cyberverse figures also. and that's the size class metroplex is supposed to scale with.

but hey, hopefully it leads to a new mold sandstorm at the voyager size also.

EDIT the listing they saw on the Hasbro Live customer service chat specifically said Voyager class. :cool:

Well to my knowledge, we haven't had a triple-changer Sandstorm since G1, so I'm very excited about this toy - especially if he is a Voyager class! Sandstorm was the first triple changer I got back in the day - now all we need is a triple-changer Broadside and we will have new official versions of all 6 of the 85/86 triple changers :D

Looks like this pic is a digibash (http://giga-bash.deviantart.com/art/Transformers-Generations-Sandstorm-355866564). Not sure how it ended on what seems like a ordering sheet/catalogue for retailers though:eek:

It could be a mock-up, as Hasbro often do them up for later waves in retailer catalogues, as they are still so far off from production they wouldn't have a finished sample yet.
But it confirms that it will be a recolour of the Springer mould... with or without modifications.... as that image is from Hasbro.

the transformers facebook page just messed up and posted pics of Sandstorm's Robot and Buggy modes instead of beast hunters voyager megatron, I quickly grabbed the pic of his robot mode but was too slow to grab the buggy mode pic before they removed it, anyway enjoy

Yep - after having Springer (and Blitzwing) they are really doing a fantastic job.
I wonder how Takara will do there version (shiny of course).

Springer is a fantastic toy and really matches the other Generations perfectly.

Sandstorm is an instant buy for me.

I was wondering if he'd have a toy accurate faceplate or something based on the cartoon/comic model with a face. Glad they went with the latter.

The faceplated Sandstorm has shown up in DW and IDW comics and it never looked right.

I really like how they put the propellers from the plane as the back wheels for the dune buggy, smart thing to do. I'll buy it but I still haven't ordered Springer and Blitzwing, so I'll probably order them as a set of 3 when RK has him, BBTS is just too slow.

I'm impressed. I wasn't expecting them to do that much work on the Springer Mould, as the more complicated transformations wouldn't give as much clearance to changes.

I can see that the whole front panel of the buggy mode is new, as are the rear panels with the new big wheels. Plus an additional panel on the roof, which you see sitting behind the robot head to replicate the Gen1 toy having the helicopter tail back there.
New weapons and colours, plus some other resculpted parts for the helicopter mode, this toy is all win in my books.
(and the retailers here just wanted to stock hideous beast toys and more bumblebees and Optimus toys...)

The helicopter mode is going to bug me a bit though, as it has two rotors out the sides instead of one on top like the original toy.
At least since Sandstorm wasn't a well-known character, with very few appearances, so Hasbro can better get away with a toy that doesn't replicate the original toy as much as Springer does... but then again, the other triple-changer homages have had to make changes to their original forms, as far as giving whole new vehicle modes to some of them.

I am impressed - Certainly a much more extensive retool than I expected and it works pretty well although the look of the character has somewhat been changed. Not necessarily a bad thing.

Impressive Hasbro, you seem to be getting your act together after a few years of mediocrity. Keep at it and I may give more money to you than the 3rd parties.

I love the gunship mode. Not a fan of the beach buggy wheels going on in car mode but it's a worthwhile sacrifice; in fact as much as Springer's car mode appeals to me this is a net improvement IMO. I can just pretend this guy hasn't got a car mode.

I think the original Sandstorms land vehicle mode was meant to be some kind of dune buggy (with a weird tail thing coming off the back) so I think big wheels are there as a shout out to that

Yeah I know, I just think the big thin wheels look a little flimsy and weird. Not really 'battle ready'.

@tjomega put up a great photoshop of him in overlord colours. I plan on kit bashing one into a voyager version of Gen Galvatron.
-Replace the head. Attach the tank turret to his arm rather than the central body and replace the jet cockpit with chest paneling. Also possibly shave down the nose cone of the jet so it still covers the head in tank mode but is less obtrusive in bot mode.

I REALLY want a Blitzwing along with this amazing Sandstorm, my finances won't permit any real purchasing until July/August though; It's going to be SO damned hard having to resist these 2 figures whilst everyone else has them arrive and enjoys them. :o

Sandstorm is clearly a really well executed retool of Springer, whom I don't really care for seeing as I have FansProject's Defender :), with his VTOLs & crazy giant rear Dunebuggy tyres!... Don't get me started on Blitzwing! :D:cool:
