Okay, over in my Whirl thread I had some, "extra content" by way of a Jackpot custom that I had been working on.

Well I've finished the head mod. I just cut out a bit of a FoC Jazz's head, glued on some styrene, a bit of sanding and presto! Jackpot:

Everything fits nicely and he transforms as usual. He just needs to be painted, which will have to be soon with all the wet weather lately.

Finished the mods and have started painting. Well, I dyed the arms and legs. I will dye the main body and then paint in the yellows and details.

The use of dye (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dye) to color the plastic. It's useful because it can't be chipped or scratched like paint, and preserves any surface detail. However, it's also very difficult to only dye part of a piece of plastic, so it's usually used as the 'base', or underlying, color, with smaller details painted over the top.

I used some RIT dye from woolies, some acetone and water boiled it and soaked the parts. It can warp parts if your not careful too.

Wow that cool!! ahahha i got to try it .... and it available in woolies? even better !! how long do you dye it for? in boiling water? doesn't the acetone eat away the plastic?

You'll need a deep saucepan, dye, acetone, gloves and a good dust mask. Not the paper ones. I recommend you buy one with the replaceable filters.

So you fill a deep saucepan with 3/4 of water
Add 3 cap fulls of dye (you can only dye plastic darker! You can't dye red plastic yellow.)
Add a cap (and I mean the bottle cap BTW) of acetone to the dye
Keep an eye on the hotplate and bring the dye to the boil. Don't let it boil over turn off the hot plate.

Add the plastic to be dyed. Leave in the pan stir often and remove when the desired colour has been reached.

Rinse parts under a running tap of cold water.

That is really neat SMHF convoy!, who would've thought!

I only use my FOC Jazz as Searchlight in my collection.. though the head needs a bit of imagination hehehe. I'm not skilled enough to do some radical modification and lazy enough to leave doing some minor painting undone to the figure so in liegeverse it's Searchlight :p. Same with FOC Sideswipe - he is Chase in liegeverse , no mods just imagination heheheh.

Are you going to make his partner Sights as well? There's not a lot of figures you can use for him though..

I've thought about. I was going to try and make sights out of the gun that came with foc jazz. Or get a spare laserbeak from a prod Soundwave

And now the downside of dyeing plastic - warping and in two cases swelling. So my solution was to take the feet, shoulders and forearms from my foc sideswipe and swap out the parts (don't worry I put another 'swipe on layby at Kmart!)

Test it out on some junker first, in a well ventilated area! Happy customising :-)

Managed to fix a few things so I may not have to sacrifice my foc sideswipe. I'm thinking it might not bother me if the wheels don't roll anymore. Looks like a TF HR Giger mash up at the moment...

Primed most of jackpot. It's useful because I saw that the forehead isn't symmetrical. Will post photos soon.

Miss me? ;)

Anyway you all remember I dyed FOC Jazz black and it warped the holes so the wheels didn't spin properly anymore. So I had to find a solution and I did!

HOVER MODE!

Thanks Lancelot! There is a down side though, Jackpot has a bit of a wider chest now.
