We now have our first looks at Fansproject's upcoming "Intimidator" figure! These pictures show these unofficial Stunticon figures in their combined mode and all five in vehicle mode. No pictures yet of their unofficial Motor Master in robot mode just yet. These pics were 'leaked' on a tfw2005 members photobucket.

It's very G1esque. The truck mode I must say I'm a little disappointed with. The trailer looks like it is 2 sections (while i don't have a problem with that, they look slightly diferent sizes) and the prime mover is molded to the trailer, which kinda sucks.

Menasor looks good though. But atm that's the best I can come up with... good. I think that holding back the reveal of the combined mode and general lack of information has actually done FansProject a disservice in the hype regard. People have just gotten over it and were becoming disgruntled, which in turn skews your view of the figure. This is the first I've seen it but if you look on TFW I bet there will be quite a few 'meh' posts, when it actually appears to be a great toy, it's just been poorly handled in the PR respect.

I love the four cars but I don't know if I'm as sold on MotorMaster and Menasor. The combined mode is okay, good and bad points with it. I just hope MM is good by himself as I'm more than happy to have them in individual bot mode.

I could forgive an ordinary or even bad Motormaster if Menasor turned out nicely. I quite like how it looks so far though I'm sure there will be people who don't like the "shin guard" use of the lower components.

Motormaster looks a little small compared to the car limbs. I think even the truck mode can be scaled up a bit.

Interesting, the truck form is not great, however it's appropriate given the limitation of the toy it was based on, after all if Motormaster were scaled accurately he wouldn't need his team mates for form a giant robot. It will be interesting to see what his bot mode is like.

I'm liking the look of the combined form. Motormaster appears to do all the heavy lifting for the legs which look like blocks with cars slapped on them, which I kinda like as that's how he was depicted in the comic and toon, albeit with the cars on the back of his leg.

I am fairly happy with the combined look. If you remember from the original cartoon, he simply looked like a robot with cars stuck to him. :p Given that articulation is the major technical improvement, I WAS hoping for an articulated cab and trailer sections. Oh-well, will still look impressive against not-Predaking and Giant.:D

After reading people's comments I think I'm starting to take more of a liking to the combined mode. I'd forgotten that the cartoon Menasor had cars just slapped on it. I can't wait to see a full coloured version. Also looks very Dreamwave inspired.

Gotta admit, I had my doubts and was pretty much pinning the buy/notbuy on how Menosaur looked and the silhouette that was kicking around a while a go didn't do it for me, but the combined mode actually looks pretty good.

These are very old prototypes too, particularly the truck pic - it looks like a sculpted prototype. Partly a shame that it was revealed in this unfinished form, but also serves FP right for being so light-on with the info. I hate their style of 'promotion'. MT Giant pics were available from day 1, pretty much.

You're right. I'm thinking this may be the only way we could hope for an in-scale Protectobots/Defensor - perhaps if Hotspot loaned some of his size to the leg that an in-scale Groove attaches to, it may just work...

Bare in mind peoples; these are the photos that were shown to a 'select few' at TFcon last year, so it is entirely possible that the molds might actually differ partially or significantly from what we're seeing of these 'leaked' photos - Which might actually explain why FansProject has been so silent since the release of this pic (& initial Preorders):

I agree that I prefer them on the front for aesthetic and articulation reasons. Even with the G1 toy, it does look awkward when you look at Menasor's legs and you can see that the'would be' knee is obstructed from the back.

IMO, the designers of the G1 toy wanted the cars at the front but due to choices made in the art and character models, the 'backward' legs became the established norm.

However if the option is there to have the cars mounted on the back of the legs then it is still good as it is an option even with the resulting drawbacks.

I don't understand how people go 'Oh cool! Scramble city stylz!!!'. It compromises the gestalt mode instead of all the limbs being focused to a particular area (ala Giant/Herc). Having them not interchangeable allows the designers to make a much more diverse figure instead of having to have 4 have the same limb configuration, thus making them less diversified.

And how many people actually display their scramble city combiners with the limbs mixed?

The only thing I don't like is how gappy the leg-forearms look in combined mode.
Hopefully somebody makes a Shapeways set or a third party releases an upgrade kit that fills that in.

Each figure is believed to of been pushed back by a month (Of its original release date) with regards to North American retailers; Asiatic retailers have already received some stock but apparently many are reportedly sold out. :)

They're indeed a small deluxe, more comparable to contemporary Deluxe figures than that of pre-DOTM deluxes. :cool:

Yes, Intimidator is sized specifically to stand beside FP-enhanced Superior, Colossus, Giant & MMC's Feral Rex. ;):cool:

Misfire was always my fave Targetmaster. Loved this Bot when he came out. Second fave was Sludgeslinger and Triggerhappy was always third place.

Totally agree. The set is a bit lost on me now. The new 3rd party Predakings have set a new standard for combiners and these now feel like they're below par.

Don't get me wrong these are a nice modern take on these characters, but I guess I just wanted to see something much more faithful to the G1 original. FP's MM just doesn't feel like MM

I think they missed a step with the release order. To have to first two releases within a month of eachother and then a 4-5 months before the next figure was bad enough, but then for the second to be a retool of the first figure killed their momentum.

I understand that it's not feasible to have four individual limb bots and keep the product cost effective, but to release the two retools one after the other was a misstep. It strikes me as something they could have stood to push their release schedule back two or three months for. I've not even bothered taking T-Bone out of the box, and won't until I've got the rest of the set.

I still like them, quite a bit, Motormaster captures the feel of the original enough for me, and a lot of those old scramble city combiners are rather generic in robot mode anyway.

And In my opinion while MMC might be on track to take FP's crown until I have the new MMC toys in my hand FP is still king. Sure the pics look great but I want the cold (hopefully) kinda hard proof.:)

Dead End was my favourite toy as a child. I fell in love with this one the moment I set eyes on him. And he has an awesome mix of an enzo crossed f40 look to it. Which are two cars I love. I think he might end up being my first 3rd party purchase. I hope they color MotorMaster as well as they have been coloring the cars.

The story is something like this:

Transbot from the TFW forums was shown some pictures and insider info at one of the conventions last year. One of the bits of info that he passed on was that FP were aiming for a $50 price for the limbs and $80 for the core bot. I don't think it was ever specified if this was wholesale or retail.

Six months later the limbs are coming out for $60, the inside word is that the $10 price increase is to offset some of the cost of the core bot.

Now, with the $120 price confirmed (or as confirmed as we'll see until pre-orders start), a lot of people are quite upset that FP broke their 'promise' of an $80 price tag. People are threatening to sell their limb bots amid accusations of FP being greedy and lying.

What you've recounted in not wrong at all - It's spot on dude ;):), but what said people over in that thread are doing/saying is SO HORRIBLY TYPICAL of that particular forum :rolleyes:

FansProject made no Official promises or statements on the pricing of these figures ever, there was simply one person "Claiming" to be an inside source who made claims he could never back up; subsequently overreaching in his confidence, he ended up being ejected from his "Insider" position after publicly leaking confidential photos of the Diesel & Intimidator test-shots. :cool:

In other words, the quoted $50 & $80 asking prices were only ever "Ball Park" figures - FansProject doesn't have a community spokesperson or outlet for releasing information (FansProject Core is a separate affiliate site, not the group proper ;)), so anyone taking those figures as "Gospel" at any point & whom now cry foul on behalf of FansProject have no one to blame but themselves and are complete Tool Sheds. :)

Preorders for this bloke CANNOT go up soon enough, Diesel is a wicked name & I can't wait to have all 5 of these modern takes on the Stunticons. :D

They're at a pretty advanced stage though! Those prototypes look like they're not that far off from pre-order. Don't forget too, that the Computron silhouette has been up on MTs website since the start of the year, so this guy has been in development for quite some time now.

The last time we saw Giant at a similar stage, he was 12 months away so I wouldn't expect to see Computron this year.

The black toys seem to be used to test the actual production model, so perhaps not to far of though.

Maketoys are the only company thus far who there is a precedent for doing a gift set, personally I prefer getting toys one at a time so I have more time to enjoy each one individually, though from a economical point of view a gift set is usually better value.

I agree. If I was unsure about these guys, in hedging against potential lost I would still pre-order all of them asap rather than dealing with the aftermarket again, almost all of FP's releases has either held or gone up in value.

I was expecting Defender to have dropped in value because of Generations Springer, but was quite surprised after a quick search (http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=fansproject+defender&LH_PrefLoc=2&LH_Complete=1&rt=nc). Seems like the number of bids/potential buyers might have dropped, but value still holds quite well.

So I've got all of these so far, and am eagerly awaiting the Not-Motormaster preorders to go up.

Brief thoughts (in order of release)

Car Crash (Not-Breakdown) - Second best of the lot. Car mode is a Lamborghini hybrid, closest to Aventador. The transformation is worryingly tight, you're going to get scraping between the outer hood pieces and the inner pieces, which are painted red, so watch for scratching - I've got none so far but am paranoid. Bot mode is fantastically poseable and very stable.

T-Bone (Not-Wildrider) - Remold of Car Crash, but you can only really tell in bot mode. Car mode looks like a Corvette type thing with added bodywork and doesn't hold together as well as Car Crash. Transformation feels looks, especially the legs. Bot mode looks more or less the same as Car Crash but with different shoulders and chest. Gun is worrying tight in his hand - these have Prime style open hands. No stress marks yet, but I'm worried, as always.

Down Force (Not-Dragstrip) - Not even going to try and pretend I know what this car is - colours are really nice though, the aqua on the shoulders/lights really pops against the bright orangey yellow and metallic silver. Transformation is all standard except the shoulders/front of the car, which are quite finnicky and end up quite unstable in both modes. Bot mode is not as poseable or stable as the others. The weakest of the bunch, in both modes.

Last Chance (Not-Dead End) - Best of the lot. Car mode is a Ferrari FXX (I watch Top Gear sometimes, what of it?). Transformation is fairly standard, and nothing feels too tight or loose. Instructions miss a step about clicking the crotchplate back in car mode to give it rolling clearance. Both mode is a lovely mix of dark red and gunmetal. The car parts hanging off the arms lend it a slightly shellformer vibe, but overall a very nice execution.

Overall thoughts so far - the only ones worth buying on their own are Last Chance (definitely worth picking up if you're not getting the set) and Car Crash (just about worth picking up if you're not getting the set).

Lots of tiny parts and force required - I had the set of them on my desk this morning and went from robot -> car -> robot for each of them (so 12 transformations in all) and now my fingers hurt from pressing tiny sharp bits of plastic into eachother :(


Possibly more detailed thoughts coming later on if I can get a nice dark backdrop for the shiny black glass dining room table we now have for that photobox effect.

Nice, just saw the email from BBTS. Disappointing that there's still no firmer date than Q4, though given FP's record I wouldn't trust one anyway. :)

Interesting to see how the retailers are handling the pricing, both TFS and BBTS are offering the same discount for the same period. I wonder if this is their concession to FP to try and keep the price to the previously stated $120 level, at least for those who've bought into the set already?

We received bad news last night, unfortunately Diesel now won't be in until early/mid January. If it weren't for the fact that Chimungmung's price is a bit more dearer than BBTS I would've cancelled my PO with BBTS and bought from there. But, as it is I'll wait.... hopefully it BBTS does stock up soon.

I ended up cancelling my BBTS pre-order and going with Chimungmung despite the price hike; I've got a big-ass pile of loot building that I don't really want to ship yet (all 4 remaining MMC Predacons is gonna be EPIC), but I can't wait for Diesel! The long term saving on postage on the PoL, plus the couple other items I grabbed from Tony that were cheaper than BBTS, meant it was only around a $10 'impatience tax' in the long run.

Hi Everyone - Joel here from BBTS. I apologize for the delivery delay of our CA-13 shipment from Fansproject. They were due here today, but the trucking company just called and said they were hung up due to weather and the shipment will now arrive tomorrow. I realize our shipment ran about a week behind some other companies. Moving forward, we are going to use a different freight company bringing the loads out of Asia. I believe that there were a few delays in the initial ocean freight pickup of this load in late December and that is what caused the main portion of this delay. Please be assured that we will process your orders as soon as the stock arrives tomorrow and there will not be any further delays barring something extraordinary happening with the trucking company.

Well, the AU Dollar sure chose a really horrible time to suck. :rolleyes:

I'd budgeted $140 (Including postage) for Diesel this week, well it ended up being $161 after conversion :( - So that'll be my last purchase from the US for the foreseeable future until our dollar starts heading back north to parityville. :o
I had intended on adding Voyager Whirl to my POL yesterday but decided to hang back when it went out of stock! :o

So now this brute, along with Spider-Mohawk, will soon be on their way to me as I've shipped my POL. :D
