I know with almost missing out on MP Optimus due to passing him up when I first saw him that I'll be grabbing Soundwave as soon as he's released.
I knew the price on Soundwave but Acid Storm is $20 more then Thundercracker?
Well I'll probably still get him anyway, better to pay $20 more then to regret not getting him and to pay $50+ more after the fact...

Grrrrrrrrrrr, scalpers... -.- Yeah dude, you TOTALLY need those 8 MP-10's in your trolley... I think lots of naughty, naughty words when it comes to scalpers, but anyhoo, adding my thanks for the info Sinnertwin, I will be sure try and not "miss out" (ie. scalped) on both like I did with OP and TC. I got no beef with forumers who get a couple so they can do the MISB + Displayable thing, but 8 in one trolley of a guy I know isn't a local forumer, you know he ain't getting them for his buddies...

I live 5 hours away from the nearest TRU. Any idea if the Aussie TRU will let you either reserve Soundwave or order him online? Otherwise will have to rely on big city mates to find it for me, like the last Masterpiece Prime.
I think they are underestimating how quickly Soundwave will dissapear from the shelves. I know at least 3 mates of mine that don't collect Transformers except for about 1 a decade, yet are foaming at the mouth to get this figure! Next to Prime, I think Soundwave is the most recognized and popular character to the general populace from our era. Everyone always goes "Who was the tape deck dude with the cassette guys? He was cool!"

I'd be inclined to say popularity. OP is the flagship character of the franchise & everybody loves the cassette fellow. Could also be the feedback based on previous seeker sales

Hmmm... Interesting, similar number of Soundwave to Prime and 112 more Acid Storm than Thundercracker.
Thanks for the numbers. :)
I'm a bit unsure of what you mean by the case numbers tho. "Two per case" would give an equal number of each, but your opening post states 600 SW to 400 AS... Or does it mean that there are cases of two for each of them.
It would be difficult for TRU to be able to establish what MPs will move. Prime, Starscream, Thundercracker and Grimlock went fast. Ghost Starscream was overpriced and Rodimus went on clearance for $40,
Sinnertwin
22nd March 2013, 06:23 PM
:o Each case will contain two units of their respective toys. In that respect we're looking at 300 cases of SW over 35 stores, which means uneven distribution.

Ya know... I've never really thought about it, but I think you're right!
I read Spaceballs waaaaaaay back in 1987. Read it before I ever saw the movie, which would've been a year or two later when I rented it on VHS. I guess it just stuck in my mind and I've been using it for so long that I completely forgot about where I got it from! :o
But yeah, the book is highly santised and I didn't even know it had any swear words in it until after I watched the film. But it was still massively funny and made me laugh my butt off. ;)
"Who made that man a gunner?!"
"I did sir, he's my cousin!"
"Who is he?"
"He's an Idiot, sir."
"I know that, what's his name?"
"That is his name, sir. Idiot, Major Idiot."
"And his cousin?"
"He's an Idiot, too, sir. Gunner's-mate, 1st Class, Philip Idiot."
"How many Idiots we got on this ship, anyhow?"
"YO!"
"I knew it. I'm surrounded by Idiots. Keep firing, Idiots!"

I don't know if they have conventional layby's, but they did have something where if you spend over a certain amount you take it home & they deduct payments from you. Cant remember the full T&C'sI asked about that last time I was in store, they don't do it any more.
Now they have a similar type of layby system as everyone else, terms and conditions are below.
Lay-Buy Terms and Conditions
- A non refundable Administration Fee of $10.00 will be charged for each Lay-Buy
- A minimum transaction value of $200, not including the Administration Fee, is required in order to create a Lay-Buy
- A minimum deposit of 10% of the total of the Lay-Buy is required
- Regular payments must be made fortnightly or weekly as part of the Lay-Buy payment plan
- Lay-Buy payment plans can be 8 to 24 weeks in length, choose between online payment or in person at any Toys"R"Us store in Australia
- A $2.90 Service Fee will be charged for each Lay-Buy per month. This allows you access to the Certegy site and online payment option. This monthly Fee is non refundable.
- Your Lay-Buy must be collected by the due date
- Toys"R"Us have the right to cancel your Lay-Buy without notice if you become 21 days in arrears
- Individual items may not be separated from a Lay-Buy parcel
- Toys"R"Us do not accept Amex or Diners card for Lay-Buy
- Toys"R"Us have the right to store your Lay-Buy off site
- Final payment must always be made at the store the Lay-Buy was created at
- Prior to final payment, 5 working days notice is required for parcel collection. - Please contact your Toys”R”Us store to arrange a parcel pick up date.
- Photo ID is needed when you commence a Lay-Buy, cancel a Lay-Buy or finalise a Lay-Buy.

Just wish TRU Australia would allow preorders like TRU Japan on Acid Storm. It was one of the most humiliating, annoying and time wasting efforts I have ever gone through to find Prime and Thundercracker.
I suggested they do a preorder similar to how they did it for the Skylanders Giants game, and just got a generic vague response back. I really hope the scalper in my area who bought up 6 at at time gets his hand (head) jammed in his car door.

Just called TRU Cannington and Innaloo, unfortunately the moment I made mention to "Masterpiece" both attendants at the two stores instantly responded "We have sold out of Masterpiece Transformers and we will not be getting any-more", evidently responding to a likely constant stream of people calling about MP10. Talking further with the attendant at Innaloo I advised that I understood that 2012 MPs had sold out but was actually referring to 2013 items "Soundwave" and "Acid Storm" to this he responded "We don't have those in stock".

Their website says this - "Masterpiece Soundwave includes Laserbeak and be capable of carrying up to 3 cassettes!"
Which is correct, as Soundwave holds 3 cassettes in his chest. It's not saying that the boxset will come with 3 cassettes. Also, since it says "includes Laserbeak", it could be interpreted in two ways - 'only includes Laserbeak', OR, 'includes among other items Laserbeak'.
Since we already know that it is the latter from the earlier report from TRU, we shouldn't get too worried about a website listing that is kept as brief as possible, leaving out a lot of details.

Why Hasbro failed to mention the fact he has 5 cassettes included to further enhance the play value is anybodys guess. Personally, i wouldve liked to have seen a three word spiel like "includes 5 casettes!" etc to tie-in with his storage feature.
Perhaps they'll update their site with actual in-hand images soon to reflect it.

I'm pretty keen on picking up a MP Soundwave myself, but constantly hassling the living crap out of these people at Toys r Us is just giving the tf collector community a bad rep.
There are plenty of people on the look out, so when there's a first sighting, that's when you know you can start visiting your nearest TRU outlet.
In the interim, being rude and impatient toward the folk at TRU is hardly going to get things moving. They'll hit the shelves when they hit the shelves.

I have a feeling they will do what they did with MP-10 last year and keep it for the EOFY sales. They'll put it in the catalogue and the stores won't be allowed to sell any or put them on the shelves until the catalogue date. Add to that retailers gorging on the first wave of a new line. To them it's all numbers, as long as the shelves and pegs are full, i doubt they care what wave of TF they stock until they go on clearance. Then they ask why certain lines don't sell. Lather, rinse and repeat.

yeah that be true.... if i see it overseas first ill get it...i don't think i can wait until the end of the year for them to be released here and might possibly miss out on them totally ...

I just phoned my local TRU and was told that the head office ordered 600 units of mp soundwave Australia wide, which equates to about 3-4 units per store. After the MP-10 sold out so quickly it surprises me that they would order such a small number of the product. Perhaps they'll put in a second order again as they did with MP-10.
The girl I spoke to said they can request more units but that doesn't mean they'll get them. I suggested that the item will be extremely popular and that they should request that head office order more units.
I wonder if the members of this forum were ask to email TRU head office with their interest in the item if they would increase their order as a result of the demand? Is more money in their pockets at the end of the day, seems like a reasonable business decision to me. Also everybody wins. ;)

4 units each over 35 stores would only equal 140 units. It averages to roughly 17 per store. Seeing as there's 2 in a case, some stores will be getting more than others.

The girl did sound quite young so probably only estimated how many stores there were. 17, even double that may not be enough to satisfy the demand but at least it's better than 4.
Also sorry, I didn't know how many TRU stores there were, I was just quoting the girl. Well hopefully many OTCA members and other transfans are able to get their hands on one of these.

I was gonna say...since when did we have 150 TRU stores in Aus? 600 units at 4 per store? Those numbers don't add up.
I don't think the delay has anything to do with Takara trying to clear out their own MP Soundwaves. If you look around they aren't exactly plentiful (quite a few of the big online retailers have sold out), otherwise the prices wouldn't be $240+
Hopefully the delay is similar in nature to the Prowl release date i.e. they didn't anticipate the sheer demand for a Hasbro MP SW and have gone away to mass produce more :D
Also, they probably took it down from the TRU website because of the insane number of people calling up every 3mins.

Paint variations, for instance the Hasbro's visor is yellow as opposed to Takara's red
Hasbro will have SW and all 5 cassettes packaged together, Takara will only have Laserbeak. No word yet as to the energon cube accessories, if any

Hopefully someone who is more familiar with Japanese Kanji can correct this, or agree with this...
The kanji characters on the box 傑作 appear to say kessaku... but I think a better JP version of "Masterpiece" might have been 名作 (meisaku), which is in my translation dictionary for "masterpiece".
I think someone at Hasbro just ran the word "Masterpiece" into google translate and picked the best result, or the fancier looking result.... but it appears that there are six possible Japanese options for the word, and I don't think the one they picked is the best one. Because the kanji characters they chose for "Masterpiece" also appears to translate into the English words "boner" and "blunder". The latter of which is not a translation option they'd want to risk on a "premium" item that will be read by Japanese fans... but then again, we laugh at their occasional "Engrish", so if this is a poor choice, it's probably only fitting.

while the other translation leads to other connotations, regardess of how accurately they reflect feelings towards this release... probably not something Hasbro want to be associated with either.
I really like the yellow eyes, and it's a nice touch that all the tapes seem to come with a case.

I only know Chinese so I might be wrong. While they can both be translated as "masterpiece", 名作 literally means "famous piece" whereas 傑作 means "execellent/extraordinary piece". Personally I think 傑作 is a proper translation.

This fits with something I read that claimed the box is from the Hasbro Asia release. Japan is Takara Tomy's market, so it makes sense to use the Chinese translation rather than the Japanese. If it is an Asian release box, western releases may well omit the characters.

If it makes more sense in Chinese and this is going to be released by Hasbro (which includes the non-Japan parts of Asia), I guess that might be a reason.
It was just a little amusing to have it possibly saying on the top of the box "Masterpiece boner"...

Kan ji (漢 字, lit. Chinese chracters) is the part in Japanese that was directly imported from ancient China with very little change/no change in written form. Only going by the two characters 傑 作 it's hard to tell if Hasbro intended these to be traditional Chinese or Japanese since they are exactly the same written down. But I guess they should be Kanji i.e. Japanese and is a way of Hasbro to acknowledge the franchise' Japanese roots as part of the "Thrilling 30" campaign.

Just when I was so tempted to relieve my impatience and buy the Takara version they announce this. Biggest dilemma ever.
I'm not entirely fussed about not getting all the cassettes, but I still would like them to complete the set. I do however probably prefer the red visor to match the cartoon. Also availability of the Hasbro one is certainly a factor. But then the price is so nice haha! Its also my birthday in 2 weeks and the TT one would arrive just at the right time! lol
tl;dr:
Either TT one (garenteed) now and possibly mp-15/16 later
or
Wait god knows how long for Hasbro release which I may miss due to availability anyway
I cannot decide!!! Help?

MP Optimus was pretty much identical with contents and construction materials... it just had some noticeable colour differences. Something that this one doesn't have other than the eyes... making it difficult to buy "a second one" to keep the Hasbro display complete. (all their previous ones have been significantly different to the JP versions, either by colours, neutered smokestacks, or an added targetmaster replacing Hot Rod's trailer)

The fascinating thing about this Hasbro set is that it contains over half of the first year's Decepticons in it... and when the JP version versions were released, it actually completed the entire first year of 10 Decepticon toys as Masterpiece. (we had Megatron and the three seekers first)
Of the 18 Autobots though in the first year, we only have 4 so far (Optimus, Sideswipe, Prowl, Bluestreak).
I can understand if there might be more Autobot MP toys, because despite the run of them lately, the designers might be trying to focus on first year characters first and then work their way through each year.

There has been rumours about indeed the designers wanting to focus more on the first year Auto/Decep only... oooh Id like to see Jazz and Wheeljack in Mp versions. Though wouldn't they need to get licensing for them though? Volks still is quite not agreeable still? Another interesting MP if this rumour proves true would be Hound with all his accessories - hope they make it storeable somewhere in him. Id like to get them to pose him duking it out with Frenzy for a promo pic heheh.

Canada vs Oz :(
From here: (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-prime-39/new-transformers-skus-from-toys-r-us-canada-177013/)
Masterpiece Soundwave SKU043130 - $119.99
Masterpiece Acid Storm SKU043128 - $69.99
Generations Titan Metroplex SKU043106 - $99.99
Prime Plat. Ed Ultra Magnus SKU038196 - $69.99
Prime Ultimate Dragon SKU043112 - $59.99
Prime 16'' Figure SKU038183 - $29.99
The price difference makes me
Ultra Magnus with the target sale is probably Oz's only win pricewise :(

If youre looking at Metroplex to give you an idea, Fort Max which has a lighter shipping weight, was IIRC $109 USD from BBTS. Amazon on the other hand may offer more competitve rates if/when he's available. Metroplex will be released locally at ~$200 so it may be worth waiting for say a Myer 15-20% off sale. Soundwave and Acid Storm have a $30 difference, so unless we can find free or discounted shipping it may not be so cheap afterall :)

Welcome, the others gave you a good idea of prices to expect, i'm going to suggest you look out in the meetups section for the next parramatta fair. it's on 4 times a year, next one is in about a month and a half I think.
