Does Melbourne have fairs at regular occurrence like interstate Parra & Nexus fairs?

I think the Sandown fair is at least annual. It'd be nice to have a regular Melbourne (and Brisbane) collector fair for us to plug for regular meets, as the Sydney and Perth ones generate a growing number of people.

Sandown is about three times a year, but for such a broad/large collectors fair (like triple the size of the Sydney one) it has little in the way of (not KO) TFs, that it's not really been worth going.

Perhaps look at what the Perth fans do and organise it like a meet? Spend the day together as a group with tables, trading and talking for as long or as little as you want. Even if you don't have much to sell, you'd only need to sell enough to cover as much or as little of the table fee you need to make the day worth it as a meet.
Or if you have two or three people here who intend to sell stuff, it can be a meet area for others to hang out (who are trusted enough to be around other people's property).
The regular meetings at the Parra and Nexus fairs draws in a growing number of people from here, because of the regularity of the fan-meet, like an annual convention.

Unfortunately Sandown doesn't appear to be within walking distance of any shopping centers (like Nexus & Parra fairs do) to meet up later as a group if you looked at doing the Parra Fair concept (arrive early as a group of non-sellers and fall back to a food court until midday-ish).
The good thing though, is it is next to a train station, so depending on how reliable the trains are to there, it makes for a convenient location.

I've also started putting in times of the Fairs & Conventions, to help make up minds of those working odd hours, or those who don't like early starts.... etc.

Comparing Sandown with Nexus....

Problems with Sandown as a regular meet location:
1. It's got barely any transformers, it's like Nexus on a bad day: every time
2. It's a pain in the arse to get to by public transport if you're not seriously local. I'd say a 2 hour journey for most, at minimum.
3. It's expensiver. Fees for sandown tables/stalls are $70 each, requires a Zone 2 ticket to get to and charges $5 for entry. I'd say most sellers are doing a charity by even showing up and vendors almost have to have horrendous markups to recover cost which makes the event even less attractive.
4. It's not that close to anything else.

This is all without saying that the biggest problem with Melbourne Ozformers is that they are all antisocial bastards: a dull, expensive day out that you have to get up early for can be a hard ask. :p

What Melbourne needs is an event with a toys/collectables focus that will attract families, fans and bargain hunters alike. This can be done by getting a more accessible venue with lower costs to attract one-off sellers looking to clear out old stuff as well as vendors with the latest stuff.

Yeah... it's a shame that it is a bit out of the way, and, it doesn't have a huge amount of Transformers compare to Nexus, but not much more than the Parra fair (which has a bigger turn out of TFs fans). But there are still a lot of collectables there (at least, when I was there last March).
Shame about the table cost, but if it is $70 for a whole stall, that could be split up by 4 or 5 people, making it more affordable. Maybe...

If the location wasn't so far out... if a group of toy dealers/fans start showing up at each fair as a regular meet, it might generate other toy dealers and collectors to start showing up as well. Like, there are quite a few people there selling trading cards, so something similar probably happened with them.

Yeah, maybe something else more convenient and cheaper will show up somewhere.

The cheapest Table at the Parra Fair is $75. comparable but it sounds like the fair itself has better exposure due to it's location. it's also $6 to get in.

What's with charging obscene amounts of moolah for autographs? I get that they have to cover costs, but sheesh... Orlando wants $100 for a scribble? Then extra for a photo? Even the Shatmeister who i rate over Bloom any day of the week only wants half. At least most of the other guests aren't too bad

Two reasons...
1 - that's in place of an appearance fee, or offsets a full appearance fee to become part of their income. Some conventions pay the full appearance fee and it is free access by fans (one of the good things BotCon does).
2 - it prevents many people from just showing up to get something signed for free, to stick it on ebay for a quick profit (like getting Peter Cullen to sign a boxed Gen1 Optimus toy - if it isn't sealed, an autograph could increase its value for collectors who aren't ever likely to see him in person).

Just found out that Sci Fi on the Street (http://scififilmfestival.com/?page_id=1293) will be at Parramatta Nov 16. Fair date hasn't been announced yet to my knowledge so this might be a good alternative.

The Fair itself was even more disappointing than usual, unless you're into overpriced Henkeis. :p But as always, great to catch up with peeps. :) I also brought along my copy of MP Ultra Magnus' booklet (JP version) for show and tell, which I'm sure everyone was thoroughly sick of at it at the end. :p

Picked up Thundertron and Hydradread from Starscream77
Delivered Generations Swerve and Skrapnel to fatbot and mknell respectively
Awesome food court social (got to meet Handsprime :)) followed by visit to TRU
Picked up One Step Changer High Octane Bumblebee, Steeljaw & chopper Drift from TRU w/ 25% voucher (thanks Paul_Agnew)
Went to Phantom Zone and picked up TF comics

We arrived at the food court earlier than usual, so Maccas (and KFC) seemed to be the only places open for breakfast. The girl who served me was actually one of my students. I let her fiddle with Thundertron, and she held it ransom saying that I needed to purchase a Happy Meal to get it back! :p I managed to rescue Thundertron when her back was turned. ;)

There's also Smash! (http://www.smash.org.au/), which is an anime convention that does bring Japanese seiyuu (voice actors) to Sydney. They did have a Transformers seiyuu (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Shinichir%C5%8D_Miki) at least once. :o They haven't announced their guests for 2015 yet.

SupaNova Comics and Toy Convention is being held on the Gold Coast this weekend. Previous times they've had ToyNK and few others selling TF products, as well as ToyWorld and some of the comic stores like Kings.

The past few times I’ve been there seem to be more and more tfs for sale. Best to get there early too before the good stuff goes haha

I know Jaydisc and Mattbilby are going to be there with huge TF & third party tables. I’m sharing a table with one of my uni friends because I am downsizing my TF Animated collection lol.

I was there this afternoon helping to set up, the floor space is quite a bit smaller than last time, unfortunately. ATM & Cafeteria on site though!
From what i could see at the tables that were already set up it seems like the usual nerd stuff: Star Wars, tmnt, tfs, aliens, hot wheels, pokemon cards etc.

$5 entry though! Ouch.

Penrith collectormania has snuck up on us again. Haven’t seen any advertising for it, so hope it isn’t dying off completely.

Not sure if I’ll be going, once again a Penrith collectormania falls at the same time as a big family birthday!

Definitely not dying off, all the vendor tables are sold out and the tables for the next fair are nearly sold out as well.

You were certainly right about collectormania!

It was properly full, fairly busy and seemed to be doing a fair trade in sales.
The reptile show a few months back was busier, but this was very impressive.

I didn't buy anything (could've though!) but the young one was very happy with how she spent her leftover holiday cash from the grandparents!

This event is strictly for trade only. Those eligible for admission include retailers, wholesalers, buying groups, etc. Registrants must present business identification.

No one under the age of 13, including infants, will be admitted under any circumstance. Babies under the age of 1 year will be permitted if in a pram or suitable carry harness.
