View Full Version : Floating a Transformer idea?

This is not a crossover product but I would like to see Transformers that are shower and pool friendly. They would look like a cross between Rescuebots and Animated Lugnut, have puffy features to contain the necessary floatation pieces, and have simplified transformations which are perfect for transformations in the pool and young children.
Transformer ideas with different water interactions..
- A Sea Plane that can sit on the water. Robot mode could actually stand on the water with pontoon feet and some correct ballast.
- A Shark that is weighted just below the water with the dorsal fin above water. Robot mode can have pontoon forearms to lurk in the water. With correct arm placement you could have just their head or head and chest showing above the water.
- A Manta Ray that will sink to 12" below water level. Robot mode can stand on the water on a surfboard/disc.
- A King Crab that can sink to the bottom. Robot mode can stand on claw feet.
- An Inflatable land mass with some dimples/pockets to hold the feet, a semi-submerged cave and an inlet.
- A Whale with baleen plates. This could transform into a bath brush to clean yourself with.
- Boats, submarines and all manner of sea life can be used as alternate modes.
Notes..
- More complicated ideas rely on the opening or sealing of air compartments during transformation.
- Some transformers could feature water squirters. These would not hold water like water pistols but squirt pool water.
- Shoot foam discs that float.
End Note..
I am definitely not saying floating toys is easy but even toys that don't float but are suitable for play in bathtubs would be cool.

The problem is that any metal parts - e.g. screws, pins, springs etc. - would be susceptible to rust :( Not sure how you'd get around that. Bathtub/pool toys are typically non-articulated. :o

Duh! Corrostop! :p :D
Some interesting ideas for brand expansion. Perhaps even a deal in house with Nerf?

Yep, metal parts is a big issue and they would be avoided where possible. There are articulated pool toys out there, just not on the scale of a typical TF. Simple transformations, clever design, new materials, and innovation will be needed.
This is about getting TFs in other places where kids play.

And adults too! I'd totally play with these things in the water if they existed (and were fun). :D 'sif I'd waste my money buying hundreds and thousands of toys only to not play with them!
I've played with TF toys in the pool and beach/ocean before, but only for limited periods of time, and I have to be careful to thoroughly dry them immediately afterwards.

I had some Transformers and GI Joe's as a kid that had a gimmick of changing color in water. They did not survive very long.

I wouldn't mind some boat TFs that actually float or have propellers to make them move, or something of that nature.

Yeah, those would be the Aquaspeeders, Stormtroopers etc. And G.I. Joe had "Eco Warriors." Colour changing stuff was all the rage at that time -- I was wearing a HyperColour T-shirt! (remember those? ;))

I've got one Aquaspeeder and one Stormtrooper, they are still relatively ok but their colour change scheme stopped working years ago.
I never take baths (shower guy) but since our infant son LOVES bath's I now have one every night with him and was thinking just the other day how cool it would be to have some TF's in the bath with us. Great ideas Deonasis! If they make'em - I'll buy'em :D

Don't see why the couldn't just make the screws and pins out of plastic. I'm picturing something in the size realm of G2 Megs with far less detail and articulation.

The technology is definitely out there but plastic screws and pins would be a lot less durable. Those who complain about loose ball joints now would probably die of a seizure if plastic pins ands screws were implemented
That said, I'd love water friendly transformers. I would like to have some sort of 'aqua fortress' that could float in a pool, house water friendly TFs and perhaps even have water squirting cannons/blasters as a gimmick.
