I'm so happy with mine. I can't believe how awesome he is. I normally go for modern versions of G1 characters not G1 toys, but this guy is so awesome even without modern articulation and gimmicks.

This Encore 23 is possibly the WORST re-issue ever:

Check if yours have the following issues (got this off the web):

1. Cerebros has very tight leg joints (fixable: loosen the screw and/or shave off some plastic).

2. Cog has 2 left arms.

3. The holes to plug in Gasket's guns are susceptible to stress marks.

4. Fort Max's left hand doesn't have the extra circular holder in the fist to hold his weapons.

5. Bottom of Spike's feet has mould flash, making him unstable (fixable: shave off the excess flash).

6. Fort Max has a defective left hip ratchet.

7. Cannon on left leg is loose and is prone to popping out easily.

8. Spike is missing his arms.

9. Missing one or more weapons.

10. Smudged blue paint on the central die-cast panel.

11. Loose knee joints on Spike.

MY Observation:

12. Mine is missing the small green canopy cover!!!

13. Plastic feels like some cheap China Knockoff quality. Even my KO Fort Max sword is shinier and better!

14. A lot of big "sprue marks" on the toy and scratches where the sprues are.

15. Stickers tear and mark EASILY if you are not SUPER careful in applying - them - once they are adhered it is very very hard to remove and re-position.

14. It seems that the heli platform now have a plastic tab to help secure it to the left leg during robot mode.

As for the missing small green canopy, I have e-mailed AE with the photos and they have forwarded it to TT, who will hopefully send them the part ASAP.

Unless you can't secure an original Fort Max for a reasonable price - by all means go for this reissue - but ..... it just feels cheap to me ... even my KO Fort Max sword is of much better quality.

Maybe wait for the 2nd or 3rd run even, hopefully most of the problems will be fixed. As I already have an A1 original Fort Max, this really should not have been purchased, tbh, but at least I have a brand new FM box and foam.

I think the missing small green canopy if they can replace it then it's OK - let's see how it goes, I'll keep you guys posted.

But yeah, other people on-line have posted that there are missing other VARIOUS parts, and/or received double parts LOL.

14. A lot of big "sprue marks" on the toy and scratches where the sprues are.Noticed these with mine.
Also some bits are really tight (example, his legs need a fair bit of pressure to turn) and others a bit too loose for my liking (like his right hip cannon, it's a bit floppy and doesnt seem to click into place in attack mode), but overall I suppose he's ok and for all I know these "issues" are ones the original suffered so I'm not complaining.

Happy to report that there are no problems with my Fortress Maximus. :) The only real issue I'd say would be Cog's arms which don't plug in as tightly as my G1 Cog's. Applying the stickers was an arduous pain in the backside. The tampographed eyes look really nice. The joints are nice -- not as awkwardly tight as on G1 Fort Max or Brave Max, but not too loose either. Great reissue, I have no real complaints about it. Highly recommended. :D

My Fort Max box was double taped - indicating that it was taken back by TT and opened to inspect for QC issues.

The numnuts obviously did not check thoroughly - as my Fort Max was missing its small green canopy on the tower!

Great to hear Goki :) I don't think that QC issues are as rampant with this reissue as some people would lead others to believe. IMO they're either jaded vintage owners or people trying to convince themselves that they don't need one by rubbishing the reissue.

I've read a lot of reviews of this toy and 99.9% are positive and the 0.1% who are complaining surprisingly never back up their claims with photo evidence  I'm not referring to anyone specifically, it's just sad when people can't be happy for others who have waited a long time for this reissue.

No complaints with mine, little tight on the legs for cerebros, but easily remedied by loosening the screws a lil bit. Everything there and fits together nicely. Suckers took me a few hours to apply, and do so with a steady hand.

Glad to finally own a complete fort max for way cheaper than it woulda cost to complete my other one.

Sorry to hear about the unfortunate circumstances befalling you Primetime. :o

My Encore #23 Fortress Maximus was double-taped at the top of the box, which I actually saw as a relief & an explanation as to why HLJ delayed its shipping by 3 days.
(Having waited many years & the total cost being $340.00AUD, I was patient... sorta :p)

Here is what I've found with my figure:

Very slightly loose knees & hips on Spike - Non-issue.
Very tight knee joints on Cerebros - Non-issue.
Transparent-Green chest door slightly looser than preferred but holds its own weight - Non-issue.
FortMax's waist cannons slightly looser than preferred but hold their own weight & don't fall out at all - Non-issue.
Left fist hole slightly looser than the Right, guns hold fine though - Non-issue.

After a lengthy discussion with 1AZRAEL1 this afternoon & checking various posts around the net, the above is literally all I could find fault with regarding my example of this reissue & I'm being overly picky at that (IMO); Missing, broken or double-sided parts are legitimate complaints however and I hope that the few people finding themselves in this situation are able to find quick & cost free remedies. ;):)

I am extremely pleased & over the moon with my Fortress Maximus and I highly recommend anyone sitting on the fence about purchasing TakaraTomy's Transformers Encore #23, to strongly consider purchasing this affordable, stunning, imposing, play-value laden Behemoth of a figure. ;):D

I almost wish I didn't already have a Fort Max toy, as this would be a rather exciting time for any Gen1 fan, or partial Gen1 fan... to get the "flagship" Transformers toy.
I remember how exciting it was to finally own a Fort Max toy (back in 2006), so know how many of you feel, especially those of you who were around in the 80s when it was first released, but could not afford (or justify) the expense of one.
Fortunately for me, it was over 6 years ago when I forked out over a thousand dollars for mine, so I don't feel bad about it at all.
I would however feel bad if a JP Gen1 toy was reissued within a year of buying an expensive original... like Grand Max (which I got only 6 months ago).... which I'm expecting will happen if they still have the mould for the pretender shell. (it could be why Metrotitan never happened, if they didn't have the mould for the micromaster and didn't want to release the set without it)

There's a whole thread comparing Fortress Maximus (the biggest TF ever) w/ Smallest TF Ravage (the smallest TF ever) here (http://otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?p=350300#post350300). ;)

Yeah, I saw that but it's not really what I was talking about...FM's whole selling point is that 1: he's big, and 2: he's a good playset. As far as TFs go by all accounts he's not that great, but as a huge interactive base he's apparently pretty decent.

So I kinda wanted to see him showed off as a huge-arse base, and what better way to do that than with the smallest representations of the G1 crew available? They're a bit big in this shot of Metroplex (http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e267/Tusko/Transformers/001-7.jpg), but they might work better with FM.

I've taken some pics of my Fort Maxes and Brave Max combined as a big city here (http://otca.com.au/boards/showpost.php?p=350099&postcount=2051), populated by various Transformers of different shapes and sizes. I didn't put any Legends* figures there, but there's a Spychanger on Brave Max which is nearly as small.

I'll take a pic w/ some Legends/Legions figures later. :)

-----------------------------------
*Encore Fort Max is populated by reissues, G1 Fort Max populated by original G1s, and Brave Max populated by Car Robot/RiD toys. Even the Decepticons in the gaols are of the same corresponding series. :D

Mine is issue free and lovely. The city mode is fantastic: great play value for kids, a few gimmicks, a quite asymetrical design, very big and solid and zero robot identifying parts (nice base arms Generations Metroplex.. not! :p)

Story: My 2 1/2yr daughter plays with some of my TFs so I introduced her to the giant robot that is Fort Max and after a gasp she instantly said "Car daddy, car!" wanting to see the alt mode, I guess I'll show her some decepticon trains and planes soon.

Got my Fort Max today, however his box was double taped so I think mine was a first run which had to be fixed and/or inspected. They did not do a very good job. :(

There are some minor stress marks (nothing that can't be fixed with a hair dryer ;)) however the biggest issue with my Fort Max is that he has two right fists. While this doesn't intefere much with the toy functionally it is glaringly annoying

I'd hesistant on an exchange as my Fort Max is pretty darn good aside from the manufacturing error. Is there anywhere I can call to get a replacement part? I'm sure if I had a left fist I could install it myself.

Now down to the review of the actual toy. Fort Max is impressive in all modes and, true to most G1 toys, has heaps of play value. I'm not sure how kids back in the day played with this toy. I had to MANHANDLE this thing during transformation. My only criticism I suppose is with some aspects of it's design. Many parts of Fort Max (generally the flip out panels and ramps) are pretty much asking to be broken if dropped on or bent the wrong way. This probably explains why a complete Fort Max is was such a rarity prior to this release..

Overall, I like it, two right fists and all. :D

Now where to put it....

If your Fort Max was purchased in Japan and you have access to a Japanese speaking friend, then you might consider calling TakaraTOMY's customer call centre (the numbers are on the back of the box). If you purchased this toy from a non-Japanese source, especially an English speaking one, then I'd contact them first and ask for an exchange. My wife's done exchanges with online shopping before, and they've always reimbursed her for the cost of posting the items back, and they sent her new ones free of charge.

The only reason I would call TakaraTOMY is if I've purchased the toy from Japan, which means that I can't get a refund/exchange from the retailer without physically travelling back there or mailing the toy back (since it would've been a non-international/domestic transaction). Even then I've only ever done it twice. So yeah, if you purchased it from an international online store, I'd recommend contacting them first; if they have none left in stock, ask them if they can contact TakaraTOMY and source a spare part for you; if not, maybe recompense you some other way (e.g. partial refund or store credit for a future purchase etc.).

Had a fun time applying all the stickers as well.... Im so old school heheheh.

One thing that worries me though is how thin the tabs that lock the sidecannons/base tower in place. I was afraid coz the plastic quality was poor that this part would be the first to break and snap off with frequent transforming. Am I missing something or is there a tab you press to open them? I just jam and pull when I transform that part and it really has me worried.

I personally wouldn't go so far as to say that the plastic quality on Encore Fort Max is of KO quality; it's noticeably not as nice as that on the G1 toy, but I still find it to be of reasonably decent/good quality. :) Encore Devastator on the other hand is a toy I would consider to have KO quality plastic. :(

Just opened up mine. Took ages to put all the stickers on. By god. So many stickers!

But sooooo worth it.
This guy is huge. I knew he was big, but damn. Stiff joints. Only downer was a minor little paint spot on one of the white legs. It is on the back so all good.

Only real downer was Cerebros has 2 left hands. Still functional and will be hardly seen so who cares.

I was curious what the little crank and button on the left of his body did. Found out there was a Elevator and Launching gimmick. Nice surprise for a toy that was designed before I was born. I found it makes a cool launcher for the Botshots!

Now just to find a place for him.........

You should be able to remove excess paint off that leg with some rubbing alcohol and cotton tips/wipes.

I'd recommend contacting the seller and getting a replacement. They ought to be able to source a spare pair of fists for you from TakTOM. TakTOM always supplies L-R replacement parts in pairs (it happened w/ my MP01 panels and MP Rumble piledrivers); so you'll probably end up with a leftover left fist (but more importantly you'll have the missing right fist). Fortress' arms are held together w/ 3 little screws, so it'd be easy enough to use a miniature screwdriver to open the right arm up and replace the fist. :)

Finally got around to getting this guy and he was delivered yesterday. He's big. I'll give him that. Heavy too.

Very cool toy. I'm glad that I decided to pick him up. I got him on sale from BBTS so saved a significant amount of cash.

Question: The big double-barrelled blue cannon thing that mounts on one side of the tower, can you put it anywhere in robot mode? Everything else seems to have a place but that

If i'm not mistaken the original Hasbro Fort Max didn't come with the sword so the double barrelled gun actually belongs in a fist.

I seem to be missing a gun for Cerebros. Is it stored any where in particular?

Does anyone have the same issue with their Encore? I'm reading QC issues (tight joints, plastic flash, 2 left arms, some missing parts).

From memory it was in the sealed baggy with all of the other weapons

Mine seems fine. All the accessories were in bags but there has been the odd occasion of a missing part reported by others. If this was displayed, maybe give it a shake to hear for any rattling bits in the compartments. It will also give you a good arm workout for the day.

I doubt that ill be associating BBTS with "saving cash" again anytime soon.

Contact the seller/retailer if you cannot find the gun. You are entitled to a recompense (hopefully they can send you a replacement gun). #consumerrights
