Today at supanova I picked up a marvel select hulk and I'm considering starting a collection of marvel select figures. Does anyone on the boards collect them? if so I've got some questions

Whats the distribution like in Australia? do all of the waves get released here or are they hit and miss like transformers are at the moment? Some of the figures are pretty heavy and will cost a fair bit to import so if I can buy locally I'd be happy.

which of the retailers have the best prices?

Is there anything I should know about specific figures, do they have qc issues? are some ridiculously rare?

I'll be doing research during the week but I thought I'd start by asking questions here

i have some but mainly the big guys like hulk, abomination, thor, venom, rhino and some favorites like gambit and deadpool.

distribution is ok depending on your comic book shop if they order them but in sydney they are quite consistent with there distribution in my comicbook shop. dont think i have ever seen one in toysrus though.

new ones are ok but if you want to look for the older lines then thats where the pricing is quite dear. have you got in minde on what to collect? i only have but a few dont collect all of em. tehy seem to have improve in there articulation lately though.

ask away and see if i can help

You may find that you have to get them online from now on.
I went to my local comic shop and was told that apparently diamond select, have said they will no longer distribute to Australia but this isn't too bad as most online stores can at a price comparable if not cheaper than buying from a comic retailer.
Try bigbadtoystore that's where i usually get mine.:D

ikon is the wholesaler that the comic shop i went to used, that's apparently where they got the info that diamond select weren't going to ship to australia anymore in the first place.
can anyone else out there confirm this.?????

I asked my comic shop guy and he said that they don't stock the marvel select figures and that it wouldn't surprise him if diamond stopped shipping them. Apparently over the last 5 years diamond has gradually reduced the amount of stuff they offer Australian retailers but they do still ship here.

Yep the Eddie Brock one, he is the ultimate Venom figure.

I'd love to get my hands on the Flash Thompson one also!

Venom is great! Now I know that I need Juggernaut, this in turn ,Makes me want Ultron which leads me to start looking at Avengers Hulk and Abomination. Slippery slope as they all fit in well enough with Marvel Legends.

Totally agree there MG. I bough Archangel from TRU, then went online and got the recent Wolvey. And while I was online discivered Juggy and colossus and got them too.

On the plus side, they weren't that expensive and Juggy is just FRIKKING OOORRRSSSSUUUUMMM!

Great, another line that I want to collect.

Hmm, I have to compare 1st Hulk with Juggy and Colossus now... If he isn't a good size, then I have to find me another Hulk.

I think you've force my hand Tetsu. Juggernaut is on my "to buy" list now.

The saddest thing is that I can buy these from a local online store and get them for a price that's as good as I can get new Marvel Legends from overseas at.

*Edit*

Juggernaut ordered! Now I need some ML mutants for him to battle.

Cain Marko has arrived. I'm in love with the painted and sculpted detail on this figure. And the weight? Massive!

I thought I'd post a few quick shots of a shoulder charge pose.

Oh Yeah, he is a thing of beauty all right!! Glad ya got one. I did a review of mine here. (http://www.tetstoys.blogspot.com.au/2013/06/selectjuggy.html) Some of the detail and paint is just brilliant!

It also prompted me to get Colossus as well. he looks to be a good cale for the 6 inch Legends figures too.

And. Fastball special capable.

Have you done a Colossus review? His sculpt looks truly amazing but I feel he might be a little to big for mixing with legends.

Working on the review now.

But using a bit of maths, and going with Wolverine being 5foot 3 inches and Colossus at 7foot 5 in armoured mode, Wolverine is 15cm, Colossus 22. Wolverine as my base means 2.83cm = 1 Foot. Wolverine's 15cm works at 5.3. Colossus' 22cm = 7.77 So, close enough to 7 and a half feet. So it would seem that they are scaled to the right size. But that all goes pear shaped when you include Juggernaut, and if any of the other characters are the same height as Wolverine.

I think that with the large or oversized characters it's easy enough to just go "ehhhh, who cares". I mean, Marvel Universe Galactus is taller than Marvel Legends Galactus, and Marvel Legends Sentinel is also taller than ML Galactus! For any character who's generically "bigger" than a regular size hero I say chuck out scale and just go with it. The same applies in reverse - MU Yellowjacket can stand with my ML figures "because I said so" if I like. ;)

Yeah, I agree there. I like the select Colossus a lot, but if a nice enough Legends one comes out and say it's the same height as my recently nabbed Legends Thor, I'd probably get that too.

Of course my whole mathematical scale theory will go out of whack once I end up with a Cyclops and some other X-Men, as I already see that Wolverine is as tall as my Archangel figure.:o:D:rolleyes:

Considering the source material itself is inconsistent in those regards it's probably better to eyeball it, that way your brain can go "yeah" or "nah" and you can move on.

Having done research though on MS Colossus? Too tall for my eyeball test. Mathematics be damned :p

I bought about 10 Marvel Select figures in one go when i visited Hong Kong about 2 years ago. They are super cheap over there and have some really rare ones too. I just love the scale and the sculpt and the huge variance of characters, with relatively few remakes. Then i just kept buying more and more, mostly on Ebay. An excellent source for Australian buyers is also www.ozgameshop.com.

Some super rare ones you will find impossible to get for a reasonable price are the older ones like Ultimate Venom, Moon Knight, Miphesto, Carnage, The Watcher, Cloak and Dagger, Dr Octopus. Everything else should be reasonably easy to get a hold of. I have a couple left over for sale on my thread here - http://ozfigurama.bigforumpro.com/t2727-fs-spider-man-tas-various-marvel-legends-select-gears-of-war-more

Im going to do some close ups with some decent lighting as soon as i get the chance and i will post them up for ya. Here is a quick photo of my current collection.

I'm jealous of all those figures AND the space to be able to put them all up. Nice collection.

I got myself MS Ultron. Really worth is if you like the classic design. Moves very well.
