View Full Version : Generic robot body?

Have any of you come across something that could work as a generic robot form?

I'm thinking something like this:

A squared off, G1 Autobot kind of shape that could be utilised to build custom figures on top of. Custom head, custom kibble & paint, preferably able to hold action poses. :p

I'm looking for the holy trinity... cheap, reasonable quality and available... but I figured someone might have an idea.

Gundam kitbash?
I'd try Hobbyco.

I second the motion, but do you want it to transform as well? Gundam Strike is a good one, either 1/144 or 1/100 scale. Or the Mk II

So… when does a murder become an assassination??

Haven't bothered to research this, but I would say a murder becomes assassination when there is political motivation behind it.

No, transforming wont be necessary. At least not until I have more experience in building bots from scratch.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The Gundams I saw look like a good source for arms and other pieces. I don't know much about Gundams but it's a great place to start.

I hear Gundam stuff can be quite expensive though, so I'd still appreciate any suggestions for figures I could buy en masse.

The master and perfect grade kits can go for $50-$250.
But there are beginner kits (https://hobbyco.com.au/gundam-beginners-entry-grade/1144-gm) for as low as $7.

If you want to base it off a transformer either deluxe classics Optimus or Cybertron voyager Scattershot are common and usually cheap.

EDIT: scratch my idea. Those gundams seem the way to go.

You could try getting a Gundam model kit and a car model kit and combine them to make a custom Transformer. That would be a proper kitbash. :)

It really depends on how big you want to make them, I'd classify it as this: 1/144 scale = scout class transformer, 1/100 scale = deluxe class, 1/60 scale = voyager class. You get much more of a choice with with 1/144 & 1/100 but the higher you go in scale, the better the quality & design of the gundam, the trade off is the lack of choice plus the price. I still recommened the Strike from Gundam Seed. It's got a modern look, majority of it is white (easier to paint) and the panels are straight forward & easier to work with. Take your time with it though :D

Those beginner kits aren't half bad. Thanks CBratron.

There are a whole bunch of different armour types that can clip on- Have a look at it! :)
That said, personally, Function-X 1 Code is *my* Chromedome. :D

Cheers, that's a helpful size comparison. I was thinking I'd start with a 1/144 but after reading this maybe I'll step up to a 1/100. The curvaceous calves & skinny arms on the Gundam Seed bug me a little so using the arms of a couple of 1/100 as the arms and legs on a 1/144 body might be the way to begin my experiments. :D

Neat! It's not what I had in mind but I'm really curious to see what I could do with that! Thanks Icz128.
I like Function-X 1 too; comparing that to the comic shot of Chromedome I posted earlier is what made me start looking into this whole think. I really want to put together an IDW pre-war Chrome'. :)
