Customisers have been making their own versions of these heads for ages...

Meh pass. I don't think any custom head looks good on the G1 Ratchet and Ironhide figures. Those moulds just don't look good with heads sticking up because the shoulders/arms end up being far too low. You could try sticking heads over the existing heads but they'd still be behind the windscreens anyway, which kinda defeats the whole purpose of trying to make them show/comic-like in the first place.

I personally much prefer my G1 Ratchet and Ironhide toys to be just the way they are - G1 toy-accurate. :)

Besides, I think it'll be a moot issue once Universe Ironhide and Henkei Ratchet come out anyway. :D

I agree, its impossible to try to make those toys 'human' proportions since they were never even meant to be robots but piloted mecha. They fit more with the likes of Mech Warrior than Transformers because that is the sort of toy that they were originally meant to be. When these molds were designed, Transformers didn't exist and neither did the characters of Ironhide and Ratchet.

What I did do however is try to make the robot modes as recognizable as possible to the G1 cartoon (and later comic) character designs without changing the proportions or making the mold look even more deformed like the custom (and official cardboard) heads do. So I bought reprolables 'seat' stickers of G1 and Ratchet that represent their character heads.

Already available for pre-order at BBTS:

http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=BSTT10000&mode=retail

$17.99 for a set + $26.79 shipping. I hate the shipping price of BBTS, always way overpriced.

Hmm I know what you mean, Mel at times you need only 1-2 items and its a total shame to order coz shipping just eats up all the savings you thought you had... its best to do a group order withthis as they always send the items in a specific size package which ends up being quite pricy.

Yeah that's true, I only ever bought once from them only because their shipping is WAY too expensive and I guess they don't care cause they still get sales anyway. True wait for RK, seems like RK's become our "main supplier" of TFs. :D
