I wonder if we'll get him here?

The metallic blue used on his head, hips & forearms are a little distracting, apart from that however Whirl has never looked better and I'm REALLY glad to see he's retained his trademark "Gripper" hands.:D

That looks a little small to be a voyager.

Stupid Hasbro, I'm trying to save money for Botcon next year. :(:D

Interesting! It makes me think 3 things..
- who will they repaint this into? Maybe even some remoulded bits like Springer.
- the canopy has a hinge to open but this is not needed for transformation which is not that common.
- he might be a bit hollow underneath in alt mode (you can see between his thigh and cockpit).

I'll guess Spinister for the repaint.

Regular release. Mentioned (and seen?) at BotCon, but now SDCC has started a few more toys and drawings should start to be seen by the public.

Apparently the new Scoop is on show too (according to Twitter) but no picture's shown up yet.

Possibly Blades? Or Rotorstorm? Maybe not Rotorstorm since IDW has already blown his brain module out, but then has Blades even made an appearance (was he part of the attack on Kimia? Cant remember)?

Looks cool but disappointing it's not based on the MTMTE design.

Rotorstorm repaint seems unlikely as he's primarily blue too.

Echoing disappointment due to not being based on "Funny Guys in Space".

I would almost prefer if they did Rotorstorm in the DOTM Skyhammer/Botcon Sandstorm mould to retain some consistency. Botcon Spinister, with its garish 90's colours looked awesome on the HftD Tomahawk/DOTM Vortex mould.

Totally agree, but at least we don't have to settle for the Generations Whirl mould anymore ;)

Didn't stop them repainting Jazz five times after he died. ;) But as llamatron said, Rotorstorm is pretty much the same colour scheme, so might be unlikely. It would be like repainting Blaster into Bluster.

Going by other clearer pics over at Seibertron (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/sdcc-2013-coverage-transformers-generations-preview-night-gallery/27916/)now of Whirl and other upcoming toys I think Whirl is misstransformed. Metroplex and Dreadwing are for sure misstransformed in the displays.

I'll buy two.

One for Whirl-y goodness (MtMtE cast is getting more and more complete) and one to hold onto as a potential Rotorstorm if a 3rd party or Shapeways creator makes head/hands/guns for this mold.

Very G1, I Hope they make a Voyager size Roadbuster to go with him.

I'm not actually disappointed that they didn't use the MTMTE design, as the Whirl design for MTMTE has always looked weird and out of place organic to me, sort of like it belonged in Prime or the Movieverse. Although Whirl in his flashback form would have been an ok compromise.

I wonder why his cockpit is hinged? Maybe they want to repaint him as Highbrow?

Looks interesting but I'm also in the camp of "I wish he looked like IDW Whirl!". I'd get him for that head sculpt to use on a custom Whirl body; and those arms and legs look like they'd be great as parts to re-use on other bots.

Yes, Whirls legs look like they can be turned around for more a MTMTE vibe..
Look at the images of the black knee joint and then the back of the legs here: http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/sdcc-2013-coverage-transformers-generations-voyager-whirl-and-deluxe-dreadwing/27915/

It does look like the two black ski's on each of his legs do not serve much of a purpose in alt mode or that robot mode - if they had wanted to give him heel spurs there are simpler ways.

But they wanted to give him more than heel spurs. Both front and back of Whirls legs are designed to represent fairly different Whirl incarnations (G1 & MTMTE). Simply turn the hips around and adjust the knees for the Whirl legs you like.

Sorry Deonasis, my last comment was meant to agree with you - that since the heels spurs serves no other purpose, it must be for homaging his MTMTE incarnation. Thinking must have failed by 1am last night.

That helicopter-Gerwalk mode looks like it could easily be made into IDW Whirl... Fold out the arms. Find a way for the head to be on top with the body in that horizontal position. I can see it coming together nicely :)

They look like they're trying to go for the same yellow on G1 Whirl's chopper blades. But then again, Today's Hasbro notoriously struggle with yellow. :/ Still, overall the toy looks great to me. :)

Same. Although I will get this, it doesn't really capture the non-traditional lean look that Whirl has in the comics

As for whirl I'm hoping that all the pictures of the vehicle mode are mistransformed, the cockpit is too chubby. But I'll still get it.

Comparing the old promo shots to these new ones, does anyone else feel they have brightened up the new pictures? It looks to me like they have over done it, the colours on the box look washed-out rather than the usual boxes artwork and whatnot.

Also in regards to Lint's post, the proportions do look a little off, but I think that is because they have lowered his torso a bit too much. It seems like you can make him a little taller and better proportioned, as with the older pictures, by moving his torso up a bit further on the sliding joint in his hips.

I'm going to wait for actual pictures of the figure.

I can completely see where people say it's purely a mid-step in Transformation (Kinda is :p), but for those of Macross-esque tastes or even just Mecha sensibilities - I think it works, has a sort of Mechwarrior vibe about it. :)

This month in the US according to BBTS.

I wouldn't trust BBTS with the releases dates they put, they are usually a month later than all the other stores. On the other hand I checked RK and they say early Feb so I'll go with that.

Their initial date for US Hasbro items is normally good as it's based on Hasbro's release date, the toys normally start showing up at US retail the month BBTS list. The problem comes when Hasbro doesn't bother to give BBTS their stock on time, BBTS normally is at least a month behind Walmart, Kmart, Target and TRU.
