View Full Version : Your Thrilling Thirty

Here's how it works:

1) For each of the Transformers' 30 years (1984~2014), select 1 or 2 (no more) of your favourite toys from that year. If you select 2, one must be a carded figure and the other must be boxed. Yes I know that it would potentially make this list into a "Thrilling Sixty," but I've put this rule in to stop the bigger and more expensive boxed toys from dominating lists and also to avoid having the smaller and cheaper toys being overlooked. Think of it as a featherweight and heavyweight divisions. :o We'll also use Hasbro standards, so a toy that is boxed by Takara that was or would've been carded by Hasbro counts as carded.
*Note: With Combiners and Gestalts, list your favourite individual from that team.

2) All toys on your list MUST be from your personal collection. If you don't have any toys from a certain year, then just leave it blank. :) Evidently we'll all be leaving 2014 blank at this stage; you can always come back and edit your post if you happen to get toys from that year. ;)

Have fun! :D

The year that they came out, so that'd count as 1987 irrespective of when you got him. :)

1995: Roadblock (only one i have)
Nothing like being a big fish in a small pond! :D That's exactly how my 1991 Action Master Sideswipe feels like! I don't like Action Masters, but I can't honestly think of a better carded toy that I purchased in that year (or is from that year)! (it was pretty much either him or Action Master Tracks :p)

As much as I'd like to trawl tfwiki checking dates...

Is there a quick reference list somewhere of every transformers toy that was first released in given year?

Hey dude, please review the rules for this thread. If you're going to choose 2 toys for each year, only 1 of them can be boxed, the other must be a carded toy. The ones that I've quoted above are where you've chosen two boxed toys, and for 2006 you've chosen 3 (Convoy and Megatron aren't gestalts so you need to just choose one).

Cheers. :)

Also this (http://tfu.info/year/index.htm). :)

I find most things from the first 20 years of Transformers is pretty easy to remember, but it gets trickier with some of the stuff in the past decade when we've had multiple lines running concurrently.

Sorry just scrolled down this far, I'm dyslexic so sometimes when reading things don't click for me. Beast Wars Reborn Convoy vs Megatron is a giftset, they are both in the one box. And I seem to remember seeing Devastator carded at some point.

Yeah but a gift set isn't a gestalt/combiner -- BWR Convoy and Megatron don't combine with each other, so they're both counted as boxed figures even if they came in the same box. You also chose Cybertron Primus for that same year, so altogether that makes 3 individual Transformers that were boxed. Out of Primus, BWR Convoy and Megatron, please select 1 of those toys. :)

You're right about Devastator though - especially in Australia where we never got the boxed gift set, so that's cool. :D

Quick question:
what about re-issue predaking? do we count that as the re-issue year or as the year the original predaking was released, especially since it's essentially the same figure.

Verno: Could you please NOT? Your choices range from 1996 to 1999 - so please select TWO from each of those years (giving you a total of 8 figures).

Quick question:
what about re-issue predaking? do we count that as the re-issue year or as the year the original predaking was released, especially since it's essentially the same figure.
Count as the original year. :)

I think I have all the years right

2000: RiD/CR Ultra Magnus
If it's CR God Magnus (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/toys/car-robots/ultra-magnus/495/) then it's 2000, but if it's RiD Ultra Magnus (http://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/6/60/RID_Ultra_Magnus_Toy.jpg) then it's 2001. :) ;)

Hang on - do they need to still be carded & boxed? Or that's just how they were originally sold. Because if that's the case then I've got to go back and do a second 30 :o:eek::D

GoktimusPrime
22nd July 2013, 10:28 PM
No no, they just have had to have originally been carded or boxed, but don't still have to be sealed. My sealed collection is tiny, so there's no way I'd be able to populate a list with my meagre boxed/carded collection! :D

That rule was put in place to stop the list from being dominated by the larger and more expensive boxed toys, since those toys would often outclass the smaller and cheaper toys -- but I think the smaller/cheaper toys have their own charm. So for example you've listed Powermaster Optimus Prime as your top boxed toy for 1988, but you might like to also add Cindersaur as your favourite carded figure for that same year. ;)

Just to clarify this rule...
*Note: With Combiners and Gestalts, list your favourite individual from that team.
So no actual Combiner or Gestalt entities, only individuals please.
So for G1 Devastator, please pick your favourite Constructicon (e.g. Long Haul). G1 Predaking - please choose your favourite Predacon (e.g. Divebomb)
Battle Patrol (e.g. Big Shot), Battle Squad (e.g. Vanquish) <---those are just my personal favs from those teams, just by way of example :p :D

2000: RiD Ultra Magnus, Spychangers Jazz
I believe Spychanger Jazz (http://www.tfu.info/2004/Autobot/SpyJazz/jazz.htm) was 2004. :)

Also, could I just kindly ask you good fellows to simply edit your original list posts (so #5 (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showpost.php?p=365769&postcount=5) for DELTAprime and #13 (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showpost.php?p=365854&postcount=13) for BigAngryTrev) rather than 'cluttering' the thread with new posts for revised lists? Thank you. :o :D
