View Full Version : What is your dream Alt mode ?

Hi all

Not sure if this has been done before but wanted to see what your dream Alt mode for a TF is ?
It could be one that has already been done or one you would love for sentimental reasons... basically for whatever reason

No rules to this thread and pictures are welcome

Mine would be a Mk1 Ford Escort, purely because it was my first car and i loved it :)

Nice. But Silvia's are better drifters. :p

If we were going off first cars, then mine would be a '87 Nissan Pintara wagon. That was a fantastic car. It was free, cost nothing to run and just kept going and going and going.

But as for ultimate alt modes, tough call, but I'd have to go with a Subaru V6 STi :D

And he would have a go anywhere mode (similar to TM Rhinox) like this:

First Vehicle mode would be a subaru impreza hatch.

Ultimate Vehicle mode, I'd love to see an accrurate F-35 Lightening 2. done with the same love as the Movie Masterpiece Starscream.

I've been waiting for that plane to turn up in the movies.

Meh, it's OK. the vehicle mode has a lot of panneling/venting detail that is artistic liberty. and it's an F-22, not an F-35. while they are similar, I have a particular attachment to the F-35.

The General Lee in MP form with Bo and Luke as Targetmasters.

Awesome Idea. question is, who would it turn into?
I could see the A-Team Van turning into Mr T. he'd be a wrecker for sure.

Perhaps Luke as the Headmaster and Bo as the Targetmaster.
The whole show could have their own alt modes. Boss Hogg as a Cadillac, complete with horns ala Unicron...

Now you're talking. An MP K.I.T.T that turns into the 'Hoff complete with red waistpiece and surfboard... My mind wouldn't be able to comprehend the awesomeness that would ensue :D

Bus <---never had one before. Don't really care about which make or model, just as long as it looks like a regular urban bus.

Taxi <---only ever had a repainted Mini-Con. Again, don't care about make or model - just make it look like a normal taxi.

Chicken (domestic) <---never had one before, and it's the only animal from the Lunar Zodiac who's never been done as a Transformer alt mode

Monkey <---only ever had one done before; Optimus Minor. But it was terrible. You can't even tell if it's meant to be an Old World or New World Monkey, let alone what freakin' species it's meant to be. :( We've had plenty of apes as Transformers, but not monkeys. I'd personally love to see a Macacque (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macaque) done as a Transformer alt mode. :)

Sheep (domestic) <--- the closest we had was Ramulus, which as a Transmetal 2 was a mechanical approximation of a wild goat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibex). But I'd like to see a realistic looking domestic sheep, preferably a merino.

Star Upper! <---the Kangaroo Transformer from Beast Wars II/Neo who's never been made into a toy! (see Paulbot's avatar/signature ;)) He could come w/ a joey that transforms into a weapon. Sure, it'd mean that we'd have a male humanoid that transforms into a female beast mode, but it's not as if that's never happened before (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Rachel)! :p

Koala <--- as also briefly seen w/ Star Upper in the Beast Wars Neo cartoon

Laptop <--- They really should've made DotM Brains into a Scout^Commander Class toy like they did w/ Ejector. :( Well, I suppose we did have Device Label Blaster... but something from Hasbro aimed at kids!

Android phone <---scary to think that the mobile phone modes of Speed Dial 800 (and his repaints) are now outdated. We need an android-phone Transformer. I'd like to see this toy at 1:1 scale too. Admittedly this would be quite challenging, but if they do manage to pull it off, then why not...

Tablet <--- TF iPads etc.!

Vending Machine <---seriously... where's our transformable Dispensor toy?!

More Nerf guns (but in darker colours) <--- Classics/Henkei/United Megatron was a Nerf Maverick; I'd like to see other Nerf pistols done as Transformers and perhaps released as Classicsverse Shockwave (I'm sure there's a Nerf gun out there scifi looking enough to pass off as Shockers) and Browning. :) Although hopefully Hasbro won't cover it with "clown colours" like they did w/ Classics Megs, otherwise I'd hold out hope for a better coloured TakaraTOMY version. :o

As a Lamborghini it'd only happen in Japan since Hasbro don't have the rights to do Lambos AFAIK (unless they just make an approximation of one). Though as a one of a kind car it would certainly draw attention to itself. I prefer seeing Transformers just transform into really ordinary every day things as part of being robots in disguise -- i.e. the idea of not drawing attention to themselves. Buses and taxis would be great for that; just blend into the background.

"Will you be wanting the Batpod, sir?"
"In the middle of the day, Alfred? Not very subtle."
"The Lamborghini, then. Much more subtle."

And here, I always thought it was called an A-10 Warthog.

As DeltaPrime said, Thunderbolt II is the official name, after the WW2 era Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, but 'Warthog' is probably better known. It continues in the Republic tradition of 'hog' nicknames, following the 'groundhog' (F-84 Thunderjet), 'superhog' (F-84F Thunderstreak) and 'ultrahog' (F-105 Thunderchief).

Steel Wind would probably have the most realistic looking A-10 Thunderbolt mode thus far.

The alt mode is decent, but robot is a mess. :p

I was thinking MP seeker level realism - a good looking jet mode and an animation style robot with good proportions and shape. Not necessarily based on Powerglide's appearance but given the shape of the aircraft I can't currently think of a better way.

GoktimusPrime
27th July 2013, 09:32 AM
Hot House and Tailwind's A-10 modes are about as realistic as G1 Powerglide's, which isn't as realistic Steel Wind's. Universe Powerglide's A-10 mode isn't too bad either, but so far Steel Wind has the most realistic look A-10 mode. DotM Powerglide would have the second most realistic looking one with a much nicer looking robot mode (though Steel Wind's robot mode isn't too bad considering the size of the toy :o); so all things considered I'd say DotM Powerglide's the best A-10 TF we have so far.

Military aircraft usually have an official name and one that's used by the crew. For example the F-16 is officially the Fighting Falcon but its commonly called the Viper. Same deal with Super Hornets being called Rhinos.

Other examples:
EA-18G Growlers / Grizzlies.
F-14 Tomcat / Turkeys (yes!)
F-18 Hornet / Bugs

Well the rest or maybe the world known them from official names. like said I only know
Hornet as it is F18
Tomcat as it is F14
Eagle as it is F15

When I buy a model kit, it also uses the official name, and also note, there isn't aka either. :)

Further to add, those nicknames may only stay in the US, other parts of the world sticked to what the official name that it is called.

Hell, I know what is a blackbird is, please for god sake don't tell me jetfire.

I'm pretty sure the "official" names that most of us know planes by are designated by NATO. I have been a plane buff for many years and have served with some of the aforementioned aircraft and one that has seemed to have always had two names was the A10, both Thunderbolt II which an earlier aircraft the P47 had (Thunderbolt) and the Warthog.

I'm pretty sure the "official" names that most of us know planes by are designated by NATO.

Common English names for Russian/Chinese fighters are definitely assigned by NATO (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NATO_reporting_names_for_fighters). Maybe it's changed, but I always thought the names were chosen by the manufacturer/client?

There doesn't seem to be a lot of hard information but US army helicopters, for example, are all named after Native American tribes, Republic had 'thunder', Lockheed have celestial objects (Galaxy, Constellation, Starfighter), McDonnell Douglas cargo planes were all 'master's. Of course, the US is such a big part of NATO that it wouldn't surprise me if they adopted the US names as standard. :)

Funny that you mentioned the helis. What we know as the Huey for example is officially named the Iroquois.

I don't think it matters that you need to know all the names though, they're mainly trivia anyway.

Did you mean Sky (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Sky_High) High (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Sky_High_(Micromaster))? <---in terms of G1 name reuse; Sky High was both a Pretender and Micromaster. Although Micromaster Sky High is a Concorde jet, it is indeed Micromaster Eagle Eye who's the Hornet. :) G2 Eagle Eye's G1 name was Hawk (G1.5); so I guess technically that doesn't count as a G1 name reuse. :o
