(http://tformers.com/transformers-platinum-edition-year-of/20935/news.html)Listed as the "TRANSFORMERS - Platinum Edition - Optimus Prime (Year of the Horse) Figure - English Edition." we can assume this will be the Chinese export version. Boring.
I don't know why Hasbro Asia refuses to use Beast Wars animal moulds that correspond to the Lunar New Year animals. Any of the many dragon Transformers could've been repainted as the Year of the Dragon exclusive (e.g. Transmetal 2 Megatron et al.), either Corahda or Nightviper could've been repainted for the Year of the Snake, and Year of the Horse... come on, what a perfect opportunity to reissue Mach Kick in an exclusive deco/packaging! So many missed opportunities...

As much as I don't like Beast wars much, you do have a point. I am surprised they didn't make use of it, If they are doing the whole zodiac thingy then it is recycling old products as new colours. Guessed I didn't missed mp 10 or starscream.

I'm surprised they're doing masterpieces for this line. That's pretty cool though.
If that's the case apparently MP10 now comes with batteries?

Maybe he comes with a soundboard.
And the initial rumors that Starscream was going to be the Supreme class version from Cybertron based on early solicitations:
here (http://www.seibertron.com/energonpub/rumor-new-takaratomy-exclusives-coming-t94000s0.php#p1479323).

The batteries may simply be a mix up on TRU's part. And I suspect that Starscream is indeed the Cybertron Supreme one.
Beast era molds may seem "outdated" from the decison makers' point of view. Plus they can charge more with bigger toys:D

i suspect it to be the leader class movie starscream and optimus And not MP10 , because the new movie going to be release next year so they might want to capitalize on that but it would be great if it were.

I was thinking of this too. Just realised that using BW moulds, they could achieve 11 of the 12 Chinese zodiac beasts, even unlikely ones like the Rabbit (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Stampy_(BWN)), Goat (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Ramulus), Dog (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/K-9) and Pig (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Razorbeast). I can't think of a TF who's alt mode is a Chicken (unless they plan on repainting or heavily retooling any of the BW bird-formers).

I would speculate on the Cybertron version as well. It's not a great mould, but it could just be that the decision makers saying OK to this are the same people that were convinced that they could sell Energon OP a second time...

I think repurposing a birdformer could work for the year of the Rooster. They mightn't even need to re-tool if they go for a more cool-phoenix themed deco to pass off as 'rooster'. I think the bigger problem is that a lot of these toys aren't sufficiently large to fetch a decent premium. Perhaps a 12 toy zodiac giftset?!?

Probably a good thing that the current Lunar Zodiac line isn't very good - imagine waiting 12 years just to complete the line

Yeah, there's never been a TF rooster. There should be. But any birdformer would do. Makes sense than say yet another Optimus Prime or other G1 character who bears absolutely no relevance to the Zodiac animal.
Probably a good thing that the current Lunar Zodiac line isn't very good - imagine waiting 12 years just to complete the line
But isn't that what they're doing now? First they had the Year of the Dragon Optimus Prime, now the Year of the Snake Optimus Prime and Omega Supreme, now the Year of the Horse toys for next year... but the way they're doing it just seems to be, "Grab a random big expensive toy and slap it with a repaint and exclusive box." Care factor zilch, except for Omega Supreme only because he's an approximation of WFC Omega Supreme.

That might be what they're aiming for, but is it how it's being perceived by its audience?
I'm assuming only adult collectors would have the patience to wait it out, spend $200-300 a year on repaints with big packaging, and have a dedicated area to keep that packaging safe for that duration. Big focus on packaging as aside from the outstanding retooling they did on Omega, no other figs so far has gotten the same love (thus far).
There's no consistency between the toys aside from being big, so how will that look like on a premium shelf/display case?

Agree. They just wanna cash in on the growing Asian market. A 12-zodiac gift set does sound tempting though :D
Super Fire Convoy doesn't fit the description on the TRU website but could be they took the MP10 description there as a placeholder for the time being.

Isn't the only connection people are making is the release, which you honestly cannot make any connection to IMO. Just because 2 things are being released and are versions of Convoy/Optimus, doesn't mean that it's confirmed for them to be the same.
I will what Optimus is when I see actual pictures, myself, with a grain of salt for the time being, as the TFW-goers say. ;)

It's not a TFW thing, taking something with a grain or pinch of salt (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grain_of_salt) is a commonly used idiom in English. :)

I love my MP-04 and don't see a reason to get rid of it nor foresee a time I ever would, but I wouldn't mind the more modern Prime for both engineering & scale reasons - It's for that reason I've been leaning towards MP-10B, as he's a Decepticon + plus he's sans the trailer. :o
