Madman Entertainment will be releasing the Transformers Animated series on DVD in the future, with Season 1 around November 2013 I expect.

The cover art so far:

I really hope Madman Entertainment can manage to get the widescreen versions, I'm currently waiting for a response (http://madboards.madman.com.au/viewtopic.php?p=894088#894088) aobut the aspect ratio on their forums.

do you have a link to the news item, I've searched their site and come up with nothing.

This was produced in HD as far as I know so hopefully they do a BlueRay release.

No, this is based on their upcoming cover art only. It should be listed on the Madman B2B web site on 1st September 2013, when the next months releases are added.

Looks like a DVD only release on at this stage, I can't locate any cover art for a Blu-Ray release.

Good and unexpected news. Hopefully it's the widescreen versions. Blu-Rays would be nice too.

But if it's only 2 discs a slimmer (single dvd size) case would be nice.

Once you've had Blu-Ray you can't go back. So many series aren't on it even today, DVD is old tech.

I think a Blu-Ray set is too much to hope for, as much as I would like to see one released. Madman Entertainment only seem to offer Blu-Ray releases, when working together with other overseas companies. And there is no sign of Transformers Animated been released on Blu-Ray overseas so far.

Also most of the animated films (Monster in Paris, Sammy's Adventure, Secret of Kells, The Illusionist) released from from Madman Entertainment can't even seem to get Blu-Ray releases.

I've sent them an email asking about it, but I don't hold much hope for a reply, as they've NEVER replied to any of my emails in the last three years. (and I've tried both contact emails they have on their site - one which they told me by phone to use)

Will be waiting to hear what you find out Griff & Gok, would love to pick up the Box Set of Animated - DVD or Blu-Ray doesn't matter too much, as long as I can get it!

As a side note, I used to have a friend who was shagging a guy at Madman for a few months and she used her wiles to get me all the box sets of the Japanese TF series for free (think even Zone was in there)! Also some of the collectors tins for the American G1 DVD's (these were empty but I had the regular box set DVD's anyway).

I wonder if I could get them to hook back up ;)

One can only hope.

Question is, will I hold out for a box set or get each season as it arrives?

Interesting comments above about what they do and don't release on BluRay.

Just a quick word while I get clarification on this... the cover image is not meant to be publicly revealed yet, as they haven't posted a press release for it yet.
(I'm not sure why a copy was released on their site, but it sounds like it was probably only meant to be for the eyes of those who have access to that part of their boards)

When I find out more, I'll post it up.

(I was quite shocked to get a reply today after three years of sending them emails... but then was equally shocked to notice that the person replying was one of our founding 16 members of Ozformers)

Madman Entertainment only seems to make announcements via conventions lately, with even their newsletter offering little licensing news. The last batch of Japanese Transformers series would be perfect example, where Seibertron.com offered the first news. While other cartoon series for children usually aren't announced at all.

Anyway I just hope Madman Entertainment makes sure to get widescreen masters. We definitely don't won't more cropped DVD releases, like many of their Cartoon Network series.

I get the impression that a press release is imminent, containing a fair bit of info on the upcoming release(s)... but I think I'm allowed to mention this though that might please fans here:

it will definitely be in Widescreen, and while we aren’t planning a Blu-Ray (cost prohibitive), we will release HD versions digitally (iTunes).

That was due to a combination of things, me hounding madman on behalf of the site after finally getting responses and info regarding their previously released Beast Wars stuff. Seibertron was used heavily to push their international PAL sales.

Would've been better to be released as news here first, but back then I didn't even know this place existed! :o

This is the company that Madman regularly sources its TF media through, via a cooperative regional-marketing agreement I'd imagine, so if that company is talking about it you can be fairly certain that a TF:A DVD re-release is a sure thing. ;):)

The TF:Prime DVD Boxset is literally the five (or is it six?) single release DVDs in one box. I'd imagine this would be the same (and have the four DVD cases, including Part 2.2 in one big box).

I liked that they merged 3+4 into a single case when they "remastered" it rather than spacing them out over three releases. (I bought it to save shelf space but I'm having trouble selling the original bulky 3.1, 3.2 and 4 release :o .)

Transformers Animated Season One Collection (http://b2b.madman.com.au/actions/catalogue.do?method=view&releaseId=21431)

Aspect ratio is listed as 1.77:1 and retail price as $34.95.

Shout Factory licensed (http://licensingbook.com/shout-factory-and-hasbro-studios-partner-for-animated-series) Transformers Animated, along with other Transformers series (Armada, Enegon, & Cyberton). So will be interesting to see if the USA releases offers any advantages, like Blu-Ray or complete series.

I just bought Transformers Animated Season 1, and I'm disappointed already. There are 8 episodes per DVD, and the video looks over compressed at times, especially the opening sequence. I'm only using a 27" monitor, so I expect it is even worse on a large screen.

Also can anyone confirm the usual length of each episode? as I noticed several episodes are shorter (21:38) compared to others (22:05)

I really hope Transformers Animated gets a Blu-Ray release in the USA, so we can get a good quality release of the series.

It the visual element is distorted on the Australian version, that would put off people buying the second season... and prevent the release of the third here.

See if you can try it on a DVD player and TV, and see if it is just the computer's graphics and resolution.

I was looking forward to the (finally) release of the widescreen version of Animated, so might just buy the American release if the Australian version doesn't have the hi definition quality that it should have.

Yeah that's much better! :)

I don't know man, in my own experience DVDs & Blu-Rays have never looked as good being played on a PC through a Software-based media player. :o

The composition of hardware & software that comprises one's PC/Mac invokes a multitude of variables in overall output on the screen; in my own experience, once again, I've found dedicated hardware-based player devices produce a vastly superior and more consistent quality image "On the screen" than a PC...

So whilst I'm certainly not going to say you're wrong, I'm going to reserve judgement until a comparison can be made with that of a proper DVD/Blu-Ray player. ;)

Actually that would be more due to the fact a PC system will show any flaws in a Blu-Ray/DVD transfer more, compared to standard player & TV. There are various image enhancement settings on TVs which can effect the visual quality when enabled too.

That doesn't make any sense at all, those images are directly from the DVD. Using a different player setup isn't going to make those visible compression artifacts magically disappear.

I'm not an audio/visual engineer and I can only speak from my own experiences; as I watch DVDs & Blu-Rays on a TV via a dedicated Hardware player almost exclusively, I'd like to see images from such sources before making my mind up as to whether I should purchase the locally produced offerings or not.

As I said I'm not saying your wrong but my reservation of judgement is perfectly sensible, thank you.

It's also appreciated that you've brought these and other productions to our knowledge, as well as highlighting these seemingly apparent issues.

There will be less episodes on the next DVD release, but I doubt the video quality will be any better. Since there is still a large amount of free space on discs of Transformers Animated Season One

That's an offer you can't refuse. Maybe we should tell madman about this?

Brought this up w/ Madman, they've said:

Different territory, different releases... we don't have a complete collection at this stage. Our season releases are $34.95. Price matching is more a retailer option, but at this stage we don't have a complete collection.

Does that person realise that they've lost a sale?

I think you might be underestimating the effect of Madmans statement there:D

Very well, "sales" they've lost sales and their copies will linger on the shelves; because of this they will never ever release another collection of transformers cartoons again.

It will be very sad with much hand wringing and gnashing of teeth.

Better? :D

that'll do. :):(
I don't know why they are so far behind the 8ball, surely they realise that the material they are releaseing is late, by years behind (in some cases region free) US releases. TF Prime BR season collections for Example.

Madman Entertainment's handling all their Hasbro series poorly:
My Little Pony: FIM - Single DVD releases, followed by bundled box set (lacking all extras), long after the USA.
Pound Puppies - Cancelled after a single DVD release, surely decent stories of cute puppies can't be that difficult to sell (i.e. Buddies series from Disney)?
Transformers Prime - Single DVD releases, followed by bundled box set (lacking most extras), long after USA. Only Blu-Ray release is equal to overseas release.

Madman Entertainment doesn't seem to really care about their (non-anime) cartoon series, their Cartoon Network label was even worse. Only the older cartoon series released on DVD via the retro line seem to be the exception.

I've seen Seasons 1 and 2 at JB Hi Fi, but Season 3 isn't out yet. However it is on JB Hi Fi's database and thus available for preorder w/ $5 deposit (I've already preordered mine). :)

I'm having mixed feelings about seeing Madman releasing these. I like how Sony DVDs have more language options -- switching on subtitles are useful for when I'm watching the show after the little one's gone to bed. Sony are really good w/ including subtitle options w/ their DVDs (my Beast Machines DVDs all have sub options too), whereas I find Madman don't bother providing subtitles on titles that don't have non-English audio options ... despite the fact that subtitles are also used by the hearing impaired (and there are deaf TF fans out there; I've come across 2 in Australia). But on the other hand, Sony TF DVDs lack special features, which Madman are typically better at... it'll be interesting to see what goodies they've packed with their Animated DVDs, especially if there's any exclusive bonus content (which they have done before for other TF DVDs, e.g. Beast Wars). I'm not going to re-purchase Seasons 1 and 2 on DVD just to watch the bonus features (I'll probably borrow it off someone else later on :p ;)).

Either way, I'm totally stoked about FINALLY owning the third season on legit DVD!!! :D
