View Full Version : Collector Club Subscription figures Series 2 - details and reveals

griffin
16th August 2013, 01:52 PM
Some advance details have been released of the second Subscription series, so pre-orders and figure reveals won't be far away (if they want to get the orders in during September so that they have enough time to have the toys made and shipped to America for February - the first release month).

The club have now put up their Subscription figure reveals page here.
No pricing released yet, but should be on par with last years (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=14231), which was US$282 or US$47 a figure, plus (expensive) TFCC international shipping.

Same format as the first series, in that each figure will be released each month, and the order will be a mystery.

A different range of figure sizes this time, as it will be 5 Deluxes and 1 Scout (instead of a Voyager). To make up for the size difference of the sixth figure, they are throwing in a bonus 7th figure if you pre-order all six.
(likely to be just another scout though... otherwise, they wouldn't have the Scout in the main set of six to make it seem less value for money - unless that sixth figure is something so sensational, every fan will want to pay $47 for it)
Because really, who is going to want to pay US$47 (AU$54 plus postage) for a Scout if this set is the same price as the first set.

Of the 7 figures, there will be three new head moulds.

Both modes of one already-known figure have now been released - Treadshot (redeco Warpath) (http://transformersclub.com/FSS2-treadshot.cfm).

Details so far known now (to be updated here when each is revealed in the next month or so)...
1 - Treadshot (http://transformersclub.com/FSS2-treadshot.cfm) (redeco Warpath - no new head) Fully revealed
2 - Fisitron (http://transformersclub.com/FSS2-fisitron.cfm)/Ironfist (redeco FOC Roadbuster - no new head) Fully revealed
3 - Chromedome (redeco TFPrime Wheeljack - new head) Named at BotCon
4 - Barricade (http://transformersclub.com/FSS2-barricade.cfm) (redeco TFPrime Prowl - no new head) Fully revealed
5 - Rewind (http://transformersclub.com/FSS2-rewind.cfm) (redeco JP United Rumble/Frenzy - new head) Fully revealed
6 - Thrustinator (http://transformersclub.com/FSS2-thrusty.cfm) (redeco JP BWNeo Dirgegun - new head) Fully revealed
Bonus - won't be known until July 2014, but is most likely Eject to pair with Rewind... but this topic will have been dormant for about 10 months by then.

I will be signing up for the subscription service again, I received Slipstream today and I am very happy with both her and Scourge. I know TFCC has had its problems, but overall I am happy with the figures that they have offered.

Swindle mould with a new head (http://www.hasbrotoyshop.com/transformers-generations-fall-of-cybertron-autobot-roadbuster?BR=496).
People are saying that the head looks like Fisitron/Ironfist... so will likely be a straight recolour with no new head in the Subscription set.

A head sketch for Chromedome has been released (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/comics-16/tfcc-chromedome-head-turnaround-revealed-178248/), apparently done by Nick Roche.

It looks sweet as also.
I am suddenly excited about the second round.
I have found so far that when they get celebrated character designers/artists to design their new heads they work out fantastically. ( the animated figures being my primary example at the moment)

Gouki

Roche doing the head pretty much confirms that this will not be one of those lucky situations where we get a mass release as well. Just hope it looks that good in person, as I'm iffy on the Clubs abilities.

griffin
23rd August 2013, 03:33 PM
It does look nice, in vehicle mode at least.

That said, I sorta feel it's lazy, in their effort to churn out 20 toys a year... automatically finding redecos from certain figures, like having a police car that can then be easily redone as Barricade.
It seems to have a lot of purple on it... which I don't think the original toy or movie character had?

UltraMarginal
23rd August 2013, 03:45 PM
The purple is a little confronting in it's coverage, apart from that I think it's one of the best black repaints in ages.

This would have made an awesome headsculpt, considering the original Prime Prowl head looks too friendly in a TF Animated way (loved Animated, but the aesthetics feel out of place). Also just to be nit picky, wished they went with plain black alloys :p

griffin
24th August 2013, 02:09 PM
I think it should be noted somewhere (it isn't even noted on the TFW page that this image comes from) that this is apparently Barricade from the Transformers Universe MMOG, which tfwiki has linked to the WFC/FOC games (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Barricade_%28WFC%29) (because the game may have been noted to be part of the TFPrime universe at some stage, but I don't think it is).

So I guess from that stretch of reasoning, this Barricade is a TFPrime series character.

Tetsuwan Convoy

man it's a shame that Barricade is limited to the subscription. I know a heap of people who are fans of Barricade, but aren't into Transformers enough to bother with the club. If this were a regular hasbro release, it would sell like Hotcakes I think.

What do they transform into in the comic, if at all?

Rewind turns into a giant memory stick in the comics, but in the first chapter of more than meets the eye during a rant about what he turns into he says something to the effect of "oh let's pick on rewind because he turns into a giant memory stick and not some kind of super space tank or something." so this toy is probably a partial reference to that 1 line

I actually really like this figure, (since I only recently started reading more than meets the eye I'm getting really into it) the chest doesn't look right since it's still frenzy/rumble's chest. but other than that it looks great, and is made even better by the camera on his head xD

It's an original character (http://transformers.wikia.com/wiki/Dirge_(BWII)) from the first Japanese Beast Wars continuation series, Beast Wars II. The character had two toys, both remoulds (much like most of the bad guys in that cartoon).

The only other series was Beast Wars Neo. Both cartoons were terrible, though some sweet toys (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Magmatron) did come out of it. Also (spoiler alert), one sweet character that totally should have had a toy (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Majin_Zarak).

I'm surprised no one had thought of mashing thrust and waspinator together like this before (even though there are no toy counterparts I'd love to see Rhinor/Tanknox and Silverstream/Jetbolt too hahaha)

Also is it alright for me to use a pic of Thrustinator's head as my Display Picture? or does that breach some kind of spoiler rule or something? (just want to be sure I'm not doing anything wrong by changing it)

in the Japanese language the characters that represent L and R are the same and are pronounced with the same sound so Heinrad and Heinlad are both accurate English spellings of his name. Goktimus Prime or someone can probably explain it better than me

The Collector Club site has added Thrustinator on the Subscription page (http://transformersclub.com/FSS2-thrusty.cfm), which is a very bright mix of green, yellow and purple, to blend the Beast Wars Waspinator with the Beast Machines Thrust characters.
The toy is a redeco of the Japanese Beast Wars Neo Dirgegun toy (which was a heavily remoulded Beast Wars Waspinator toy) from about 1998, and will come with a new head... which makes this the third and final new head (Barricade and Rewind were the other two).

They just need to reveal the Chromedome toy and it shouldn't be more than a couple days after that for FunPub to open up orders for the set.

I'm kinda thinking that the Bonus figure will NOT be Eject, as that would be a complete surprise, seeing as the fandom is now expecting it. They could release Eject at any time later, as an easy figure utilising the exclusive head... but having this red herring out there would make the actual bonus figure be rather exciting for those who ordered it.

Don't forget, Fatbot is quoting postage for 3 subscriptions there. not just one.

I've had a look at my bank account, the first sub cost me 416.44 and it contained 5 deluxes and a Voyager and that included the insurance.

the second sub will be (US$406) approximately AU435. it has 4 deluxes, a scout and whatever size class the waspinator is. plus a mystery figure that will probably be another scout.
it also includes 3 Arms micron Figures. Which I may or may not keep. along with the wasp dude.

in US$ it's probably about $10 - $20 cheaper than last time with less plastic overall but with some fantastic molds. Our weaker exchange rate makes it a bit more expensive.

For those wanting the direct link to Series 2 - here it is (https://www.mastercollector.com//fss/event.cfm?eid=6).
(the link at the bottom of every FunPub page, goes to the long-expired series 1 pre-order page  )

Did postage go up from last year?

Seems even more exceedingly unreasonable than before.

Last year had the following figures (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=14231)...

Set of figures - $282 (this year is $3 cheaper, but we have no Voyager figure this time... 2 Scouts only equals a Deluxe, so is effectively a price rise)

Shipping last time...
Priority Mail International - $234.60 ($39.10 per figure)
First-Class Mail International Parcel - $113.28 (18.88 per figure)

Shipping this time...
Priority Mail International - $245.70 ($40.95 per figure)
First-Class Package International - $106.50 ($17.75 per figure)
(no express mail option this time, which was even more expensive - I guess no one used it as it was just doubling the cost, for a saving of just 2 or 3 days)

So the Priority rate is slightly higher than last year, but the First Class rate is slightly cheaper.
In the end, at least the total cost is less than last year. Not by much, but at least with a smaller "mass" of toys this year, it didn't end up costing more than last year (which would have been price-gouging).

Wow  - I was debating whether to get the figures or not when I logged in, but that price description just cinched me passing. Half these figures are not worth a hell of a lot more to me than the postage price itself, let alone having their actual price on top of it . Especially since we are getting some scout class in there and no Voyagers. I think like last time, I will have had my club membership for a total of a year and then will let it lapse :(

Just a reminder that the deadline for subscribing is near the end of the wee. Even if you only want 2 or 3 figures (and keep in mind that you get the 'free' exclusive figure that - if its good - will jackpot on TFSource and BBTS) its probably cheaper to subscribe now.

Also the shipping price is outrageous, as usual, but you can save money by using the cheaper shipping option. If you do so, be sure to check insurance because you won't receive a refund if it goes astray.

Oh and if anyone wants a good deal on the toy only a mother could love, Thurstinator, send me a PM

I was wondering the same thing, I was expecting them to start releasing them soon but I suppose they wouldn't want to have crossover with either Joecon or Botcon news so they could save the shipping for a time when they have nothing else to talk about. I do expect they will have them shipped across to the states with their botcon figures like they did last year, just to save on shipping. and start shipping them out some time after Botcon.

They had to have something positive to show at the Joe convention since GI Joe has pretty much been dropped by Hasbro this year from what I've heard.

I'm not sure about this but I predict after Botcon.

I'm not sure that they're majorly delayed? can you source this? It's entirely possible that they have them in hand and are just putting off sending them out till after they've opened botcon ticket sales. though I doubt they'd ship them seperately from their Botcon figures.

Why is Thrustinator's head 1.5 the size of Protoform X's?

both figures are deluxes, thrustinator is much older so, probably a bigger toy overall. and the smaller head on the Megatron deluxe will help make the chest look moore massive.

FunPub have just announced that the Subscription figures should start shipping in June (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/conventions-15/transformers-collectors-club-figure-subscription-service-series-2-to-start-shipping-in-june-179843/), as they are arriving with the BotCon toys again (like last year). The Membership figure (Rampage) and Club Store exclusive (Transmutate) should be in with them, so we should get them released/sold just before BotCon as well... if they have the time. (usually they hold off until after BotCon if they arrive too close to the convention).

Hello all,

Just a quick note about the TF FSS 2.0 orders. The shipment is now on a container ship heading this way and is scheduled to arrive in Dallas the last week of May.

Provided that there are no other delays, we anticipate on shipping the first month's figures by the first week in June.

Thanks for your patience with the manufacturer's delay.

Brian

If it really was a manufacturer delay (because the movie toys must take preference), I'd be supportive of them. But they should have been giving us updates each month since February if it were true, and I'd be grateful of frequent and open communication to their paying customers. Months of silence just leads people to assume it is a made up excuse for something that is their own fault.

UltraMarginal

It really does feel like they never intended for figures to arrive any earlier.

and the email that says stuff is coming sorry for the delay because of someone else, just sounds like every other problem they've ever had always being someone else's fault.

I like the club and botcon, they are a good facet of transformers fandom, not so much funpub, but they make it hard for non-haters not to agree with the haters. so hard.

I pinged them about it on twitter,
tfss2.0 arriving late May, manufacturers delay. cut the crap you shipped it with Botcon sets to save Money

their reply
Nope. Actually causes BIGGER problems for us and actually, these still are arriving separately looks like...

I said
"twice in two years makes an interesting coincidence. I love the club and Botcon but you make it really hard not to believe your critics"

they didn't reply at all to that.

I'm an engineer, I sometime don't communicate well with others, but shit I think I could do a better job of publicity than these guys.

1AZRAEL1
1st May 2014, 11:59 AM
Well without any sort of updates from them about delays until now, makes their excuse like swiss cheese.

It is truly disappointing that they seem to just make excuses and ignore the criticism, instead of trying to rectify their failings. Certainly not good for the fandom.

Perhaps the Chinese factories heard that Brian Savage is blaming them for the delays? :p

The in-hand images look more cartoon accurate to me. The faded teal works really well. However that gold is really strong. Maybe they're hinting that if Transmutate was not all fudged up by a malfunctioning statis pod, it would have a much stronger colouring?

Can't wait to get Barricade. He looks awesome.

He does. I was just reading his bio

"Cruel? Justice is always cruel."

Barricade is devoted to his desire to see justice rendered. Unfortunately for the suspects he arrests, that justice is Decepticon justice. He is swift, cruel, and most times ignorant of the facts. Like a hunter studying his prey, Barricade stalks the streets of Cybertron looking for any individual who may be working against the great Decepticon ambition. Anyone acting suspicious is quickly detained and rarely seen again.

Over his career, Barricade had a number of partners: Howlback, Garboil, Nightstalker. Eventually each one requested to be transferred to another officer or precinct, but he ultimately gained a true partner in Frenzy. Frenzy excels at interrogation, although not at all useful in the roles of collecting evidence or tracking persons of interest. He also shows a complete lack of familiarity with Decepticon law. His zeal for inflicting pain until a suspect talks borders on the maniacal, but is crucial to Barricade's perfect case closure rate.

Awesome

Oh, and Fistron arrived today too. Hehehe. Fist-ron.

Did TFCC misspell it? (It's meant to be Fisitron, as in an anagram of Ironfist.)

Hope my Fisitron arrives today :)

The TFCC comic makes reference to him being Ironfist in their canon at some point. Its spelt Fisitron on their webpage

You're right. It could have been a crappy new character, or something tiny like micron/mini-con!

The third Subscription figure (Thrustinator) (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/conventions-15/tfcc-figure-subscription-service-20-thrustinator-arriving-180739/) is arriving at American homes, so should be arriving here in 2-3 more weeks.
Apparently the wasp eyes were supposed to be blue, as the samples were all blue, but the factory painted them yellow for no known reason.

And another image of the 7th figure has been found, which can be seen here (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/conventions-15/transformers-collectors-club-subscription-service-mystery-figure-new-image-180743/).

That is really irritating. Wonder if TFCC will give an explanation or do their usual not caring.

no more green paint to mix with yellow to become blue so just paint yellow :P

It was a surprise to them, as the pre-production samples they got months ago were correctly painted, so the factory was supposed to copy the sample's template.

Well, goes to prove what we've all suspected - that TFCC use shoddy factories to make their merchandise

It's Hasbro/TT's factory... but FunPub is unlucky with construction and paint issues because they only order a small run of figures, and don't have first-hand control (they have to work through Hasbro who does have first-hand control)... which slows everything down, and leads to more miscommunication than normal.
A bit like going through an interpreter to negotiate a peace treaty.

Thrustinator :o arrived last night. He's fairly underwhelming. A bit of meh really. I just looked it over to check for any defects (stress mark on one antenna from shipping most likely :() Put it on the shelf with my other TFCC/Botcon beasties without even bothering to transform it.

Got my Thrustinator last week, and just forgot to post anything about him. The wings on mine seem to be fairly loose, he was also assembled incorrectly and needed his beast mode legs to be swapped around (nothing major really). Also a few stress marks. His legs are pretty loose.

No real issue with the paint.

Overall I am happy with him...

The fourth figure on its way to subscribers (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/conventions-15/tcc-figure-subscription-service-treadshot-now-arriving-180982/) is Treadshot (redeco of Warpath as the Actionmaster Decepticon) with Catgut (a JP Micron cat).

Its what all the cool kids are doing these days... :D

Probably his was of showing he's a rebel amongst the Decepticons as his bio states he's not so loyal to their cause anymore and is more of a gun for hire??

...But More likely some schmuck at funpub thought it looked cool...

Nah, you can see it in the first photo in Trev's review posting.... it is still on an angle.
Generations Warpath has a small Autobot symbol in the same spot, but not crooked.

Chromedome, the fifth figure, is now arriving at American homes. (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/conventions-15/tcc-figure-subscription-service-chromedome-now-arriving-181141/)

This was one I probably liked most in this set, for the vehicle mode, and for the added Micron as Stylor (can't become his head though).

If you are a subscriber, expect it within a couple weeks.

Chromedome should be arriving at Australian houses now, as I got mine on Saturday.

With just Rewind (black) left to be released in the next couple weeks, the mystery figure has always been suspected to be Eject (blue)... and here's one on ebay by Seibertron's owner (http://www.ebay.com/itm/EJECT-Transformers-Collectors-Club-Subscription-2-0-Exclusive-TFSS-Mystery-/181539604064?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item2a449a8660) proving it to be true.

My Chromedome arrived today, but I noticed no mention of the minicon in the bio, or even what his name is. I also had trouble fitting the micron in his hand to use as a gun

Rewind is the black one, Eject is the blue one... both from the Japanese exclusive mould of Rumble and Frenzy from the United series. (it was planned for release by Hasbro as well during the 2010 yellow-box series, but ended up being cancelled (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Unreleased_toy) like many final wave toys)

I just noticed that Seibertron has photos of the (spoiler alert!) Eject mystery figure. But the biocard is just..... bizarre! I won't spoil it for those who prefer to wait for theirs to arrive, but it definitely doesn't seem to be IDW continuity unless I've missed an issue, and is set far, far, far into the future (post G1, maybe even post Beast Wars).

Is there something obvious that I've missed here? I still haven't read the Subscription Series 3 comic yet - is that where his fate is described?

Paulbot
16th October 2014, 08:22 PM
Yeah it's not a IDW continuity figure, neither is their Chromedome or Rewind. He's from another alt reality that's been featured in the club's comics and bios.

Yeah, what Sky Shadow and Paulbot said. FunPub are doing homages to a number of contemporary and popular characters, but slotting them within their own universe.
