Following on from the massive surge in momentum of Armada, Hasbro (with Takara) had the second chapter of the "Unicron Trilogy" released right at the end of 2003, just as the 20th Anniversary of Transformers was about to begin.

Details of this series can be read up here (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Transformers:_Energon_%28franchise%29).

Energon gave us a new "annoying" character... Ironhide, as the "human bridging" element of Transformers for this series. Plus a new "neutral" character in Alpha Quintesson, who had a different agenda to the Autobots and Decepticons.
Aside from them, we didn't get a lot of stand-out characters in Energon, due mostly to the poorly scripted Energon cartoon and short-lived Comic.

Who are your favourite characters in this era, and why?

Which characters were disappointing or over-used?

Who would you have liked to have seen more of in this Series for being under-used?

Who are your favourite characters in this era, and why?
*It was good to see Starscream return to form and try to take over the universe for himself.
*Primus actually got to be on show! Didn't have a lot of great dialouge but when you are a planet-sized robot, your stage presence is usually pretty commanding anyway ;)

Which characters were disappointing or over-used?
*Ironhide - like the polar opposite of our beloved G1 one
*Shockwave/blast - just nasty evil instead of geinus evil

Who would you have liked to have seen more of in this Series for being under-used?
*Sharkticon & Slugslinger in better roles would have been good as both were intereting versions of their G1 selves

Who are your favourite characters in this era, and why?
Kicker Jones; for going all Gandalf on Roadbuster in explaining the meaning of a mortal life.

Which characters were disappointing or over-used?
Omnicons and Terrorcons were disappointing. Alpha Q felt overused at times.

Who would you have liked to have seen more of in this Series for being under-used?
The Gestalts and Dinobots.

I've only seen Super Link, and Roadbuster's an alright character in that show, serving as a device to help flesh out/develop Kicker's character.

I don't recall ever seeing Primus' robot form in Energon, only in energy form. Felt similar to the way Vector Sigma was portrayed in Beast Wars Neo, only way less preachy. ;)

Am I getting that mixed up with the Cybertron cartoon?

Edit: Yeah, I totally am! It's Cybertron with Primus and the huge Starscream - this is the one with the ghost starscream isn't it :o
