How do you classify Generations Metroplex? Do you see him as...

War For/Fall Of Cybertron
Classicsverse - Classics, Universe (2.0), Generations, Henkei, United, Reveal the Shield
Both
Neither - you see him as belonging in another universe that is neither WFC/FOC nor Classicsverse
Don't care - you couldn't give a flying Trypticon's tail; your Metroplex just lives wherever the hell he likes. Noone's gonna argue w/ him cos he's friggin' Metroplex! :D

----------------------------------------------------

I personally classify him as WFC/FOC; reasons being:
+ The sound chip uses FOC Metroplex's voice and even has lines taken directly from the game.
+ While the mould isn't exactly like FOC Metroplex's game model, it's near enough - and there have been other FOC toys which aren't the same as their game design, e.g. Ultra Magnus (although Ultra Magnus' packaging does explicitly state FOC whereas Metroplex's doesn't).
+ To me he looks like he belongs w/ my WFC/FOC toys. He'd look out of place if I put him w/ my Classicsverse Autobots... not that I even have the shelf space on my Classicsverse Autobot shelves. :p

But I can see reasons to classify him as Classicsverse, including:
+ The toy design doesn't look exactly like the FOC design, and the box doesn't explicitly state FOC like Ultra Magnus'
+ The window stickers show Classicsverse characters, placing him in that universe and out of WFC/FOC

Also, please post pics of how your Metroplex is currently being displayed (e.g. on your WFC/FOC or Classicsverse shelf - or maybe you lump them all together (I used to), or something else etc.). :D :)

Classics.
Though it's announcement coincides and raised hopes this would be FoC, the body shape and proportions are just aren't there.

You didn't attach a poll to this? The options for it are right above 'Submit New Thread' [edit] there it is.

You replied too quickly! I was making the poll when you posted. :p Hit refresh on your browser and you should be able to see the poll. :D

WFC/FOC

Both. As you said Gok, the voice box plays grabs right out of the game and I seriously doubt this guy would currently exist right now if not for FoC.

However to deny he is also a classics version of the original Metroplex is just denying what is in plain sight. He looks like the original MUCH more than the FOC version. His alt modes are the same (in principle), the SDCC box art shows him with G1 versions of Prime, Prowl, Bumblebee and Sideswipe, not FoC versions. The list goes on.

Personally I don't see the big deal. Put him in whatever collection you prefer. ;)

For me he fits in with my CHUG collection, as he looks nothing like the FOC version.

Playwise it doesn't matter. I frequently mix up toys from different series/universes during toy play. For me this sort of classification matters in 2 areas:

1) Display. I display all my TFs according to faction and series. As I classify him as a FOC toy, he currently stands on my WFC/FOC shelf (which is one shelf for both factions, but Deceps on the left and Autos on the right). If I were to classify him as Classicsverse, because my Classicsverse Autobot shelves are maxed out, I'd have to rearrange _all_ of my Classicsverse shelves (plus my WFC/FOC shelf would be displaced too; so I'd be looking at least 123 Transformers that I'd have to remove and reshelve!) in order to accommodate a toy of Metroplex's size. So admittedly it is actually just physically easier for me to classify Metroplex as FOC too. ;)

2) Cataloging. My cataloging system lists all my Transformers according to series too; and I'd like to have that matching my shelving. So for the sake of consistency I've catalogued Metroplex as WFC/FOC.

Honestly to me this toy feels more like WFC/FOC, though I can see how he'd feel differently for others. :) Again I'd like to see people post pics of the shelf where their Metroplex is currently residing -- mine is standing on my WFC/FOC shelf (don't have time to photograph/post it tonight - I'll do it later), but I'd also like to see Metroplex in a Classicsverse display or displayed or however other way people see fit to display him. :D

This issue really pisses me off.

Officially he's not a WFC/FOC toy, but people think he is WFC/FOC. He's the epitome of how Hasbro has confused people as to which universe everything belongs to.

How many idiot toy reviewers said in their Orion Pax review that IDW Orion Pax was WFC Optimus and WFC Optimus is G1 Optimus?

When both Cybertron games came out how many idiot video game journalist said WFC/FOC is official cannon for G1?

NO, NO, NO. IDW and Classics is G1, WFC and FOC is Prime.

And repurposing FOC as IDW G1 doesn't help Hasbro!

I'm sick of having to correct idiots like Optibotimus and Jeff Gerstman as to which continuity everything belongs to.

Lol :D

Yeah - WFC/FOC is meant to be from the Prime Universe, I'll totally grant you that, but lets face it, it really isn't. It's totally G1. Look at Breakdown in WFC versus Breakdown in Prime, two totally different takes on the character. The same can be said for Ratchet, Arcee and most especially Soundwave.

Soundwave in the games is WAY MORE G1 based than PRIME based - game, set and cyber-match!

I've been re-cataloging all my TF's since I reached the 1300 mark late last month and I feel fully justified in putting 'Classics', 'Universe', 'Generations', 'RTS' and 'HFTD' all in the Classicsverse universe. And that be where I'm sticking big ol' Metroplex as well as classifying him as FOC, and feel totally justified in doing so on both fronts :)

You sound like my Psychiatrist, but it does make me calmer. I don't know why continuity gets me so upset.

The shipping case states "tra generations Titan" so that's good enough for me

I used to count him as WFC/FOC, until I actually compared him to the game model. Yikes, nothing alike.

It's also clear from the concept art that they weren't really working from the FOC design.

Sadly I have to put him with my FOC figures as I have no room to put him with my CHUG collection, even though I classify him has Generations.

I see him primarily as Classicsverse but accept him as fitting in with WFC/FOC. It is easy for me to do that as I sort of include WFC/FOC toys as 'classics' as to me they are re-interpretations of Pre-Earth G1 characters. I completely ignore Hasbro's forced 'It's Prime universe' BS.

When I eventually find one on the shelf here, I'll call it classicsverse/FOC.

Like Kup I see the WFC/FOC as an alternate pre-cursor to G1, at the same time I see how it connects to Prime and I can almost see Prime as an alternate universe G1, given the way it's supposed to link back to WFC/FOC.
the stylings on Metroplex itself are enough of a match to classics or the game toys to fit with either.

I just have to get it and find a place for it.

Thanks to the Gentleman and scholar Known locally as Paulbot, I had my first experience with metroplex and personally i think it's great as a stand alone piece it doesn't need a designation lol.
Also got my first (believe it of not) experience with a g1 fort max!

I think its intended to be a FOC toy but I just class it as a 'Generations' toy. But he fits in well with any of my collection I think. Though I must say, I don't have mine yet so I'm assuming he is too big to be near any of the other TFs I have.:D

GoktimusPrime

He displays fine w/ other TFs (I really should get around to posting a pic of my WFC/FOC shelf); just gotta make sure you reserve shelf space first. :)

My FOC is kind of combined with my classics as of now and probably will stay that way for a while, so what about that? ;)

Don't have mine yet, but I'd go with classics. Since the FOC toys came out under the Generations line = Classics they are ALL generations anyway. :p So I would have them all bundled together. Just plopped on top of each other on the shelf, just a bundle of robot arms legs and missiles all over the place.

Maybe just the FOC and WFC looking guys standing together. ;)

The box art on my Metroplex box has G1 Optimus, Prowl, Bumblebee, and Sideswipe running away from FOC Metroplex so perhaps he's 'allowed' to go into people's G1 collections.:p

I always wondered how many people like me have Classics and G1 together? Since Classics/Henkei/Universe 2.0/Generations/United is mostly G1 characters I've never felt any problem having for example G1 Rotorstorm standing next to Generations Springer. Especially since IDW G1 uses both G1 and Generations character models.

I do however use the FOC ones as Prime until they are repurposed into IDW G1.

It's Classicsverse for me; I see very little at all that holds it to anything else honestly.
