View Full Version : Platinum Predaking now shipping from Amazon

Platinum Predaking was up for pre-order for some time on Amazon, but it has now finally shipped (for anyone who ordered one from there).

For anyone else interested in this figure (looks to be a re-release of the TakaraTomy 2010 version, with an extra sword), it is still available at Amazon for US$120 plus $12.18 shipping. (http://www.amazon.com/Transformers-Platinum-Edition-Predaking-Exclusive/dp/B00CM5DA62/ref=sr_1_45?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1378312222&sr=1-45&keywords=transformers)
For under $30 a toy, and they are bigger than a Deluxe, that's pretty good... especially for this Combiner, being the biggest of Gen1.

Don't know if this is the norm with Amazon but the only person who reviewed Predaking has stated that his arrived without packaging and arrived damaged. Just something to consider if you are thinking of getting this through amazon.

That sounds odd, and possibly (hopefully) was just a one-off mistake at the warehouse, as previous Platinum sets have been sent in Amazon boxes. (and it's the first I've heard them doing this)

I once had an expensive JP toy sent from Asia that was just the toy box wrapped in paper... so as expected, it got a bit crushed.

Actually Amazon does that on some items. I also collect Star Wars 3.75inch figures. Amazon pissed off a ton of Star Wars collectors when they shipped Slave I without a packaging box (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/Hasbro_Amazon_Exclusive_Slave_I_Found_At_Discount_ Stores_153921.asp). I guess Amazon have not learned from their mistake. If you read the related articles on rebelscum you will see just how worked up the Star Wars fans got over the "Slave I Debacle".

I received an email from Amazon the other day asking me to provide feedback on their shipping packaging etc. for my last order with them

I was a bit peeved that they put two heavy books loose in the bottom of the amazon box  During transit they slid and rubbed on each other leaving scuffs indents etc.

I'll be mentioning that they should at least put a layer of tissue paper between the books or something?? But they probably wont listen...

I got Metroplex from Amazon. The Metroplex box was inside another slightly larger box, but that was it. No other packaging/padding/wrapping.

I only ever purchase from Amazon if i intend on opening the item. Their packaging material is nonexistant. You may get the odd scrap bit of plastic buffer or paper.

As I noted in the Amazon items topic, if you are after cheap figures that you intend to open, they are the way to go. Otherwise, pay a little more and shop from somewhere that caters to collectors, not the average consumer.

On the bright side, as someone who has never owned and barely ever played with a G1 Predaking THIS TOY KICKS BUTT!!!! I really hope whoever designed this won an award or something. :D

The additional sword is definitely a needed addition, though once again it could have been bigger. (It is only an inch longer than Razorclaw's sword)

I haven't noticed anything serious in the mold degradation department. All accessories peg in tightly and all swivel joints are reasonably tight. Only things I found a little loose are the combiner pegs, but this might be normal?

Clearly they have learned nothing from the people they pissed off with the Slave I earlier in the year. I have 5 Star Wars 3.75 inch figures on order at Amazon. Surely they will put them in a box.... I hope.

Die cast. Could be mold degradation. He seemed a bit slouchy at the shoulders and the legs come off without much force at all.

Die cast. Could be mold degradation. He seemed a bit slouchy at the shoulders and the legs come off without much force at all.

That could just be the sheer weight though :); I too have the 2010 Takara reissue (Went through the same levels of amazement & joy as yourself here ;):D) and whilst my connections are tight, there is definite signs of a lot of weight being bared. :o

That effort on Amazon's part though is absolutely deplorable , I'd seriously consider writing up a review on the site if only to let others know what to expect. :(

Demand a refund, or partial credit. (go through their live Customer Service module and give them the image link to see what they have to say about it at least)
Even if you don't keep the box (which you should with these nice shiny ones :p ), the packaging is designed to be for display by collectors.
I could understand if they did it to a general release item, like say Metroplex, but even still, I'd be annoyed at not having the chance to have "keepable" or displayable packaging.
(not to mention, the chance of the single bit of tape breaking in transit and items inside come out and are lost)

I really hope mine doesn't arrive like that.

A lot shipped like that at first (not all, but a substantial number), Amazon is aware of customer fury, and any yet to be shipped will now all be shipped in an outer box.

If yours arrives without an outer box, complain. Yes, they already know, but volume never hurts, especially to cover the international POV, and demand a credit for at least part of the shipping.

WOW, I'd be completely ropeable if I recieved something in that condition from anyone.

Definitely complain to them with pictures. I know they are trying to save wherever they can with shipping but that's going too far.

As for your loose joints, I actually only just opened my 2010 reissue last night and transformed them all to their individual robot modes. I totally agree with you, for it's age the design is really well done. I haven't noticed anything particularly loose yet except for a couple of beast mode legs hanging loosely in the robot mode.

Later this week some time I'm going to sticker up and combine the sucker. I also have the third party sword that was producd a couple years ago to give the combined mode a bit more oomf.

Got a partial refund of 20%. A replacement or full refund was also offered but that would involve re-boxing old Preds and sending him back to the states. As I am perfectly happy with Preds as he is (and too lazy to twistytie him back up) I settled for the partial refund.

They did all this without a shred of evidence. Still sucks though, can't really say I got a good deal.

The Amazon customer service person at the other end of the chat line put me on hold for more than a few minutes at the get-go before offering a full replacement or refund. I like to imagine she spent those good few minutes sifting through a sea of similar complaints from other angry customers who bought this item.:D

Mine arrived on saturday...

http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/a747.jpg

Now to see if I can send it back for a replacement.

griffin
16th September 2013, 02:54 AM
While the item remains suspended (under review - likely due to the complaints and refunds), they can't issue a replacement... so I have to get back to them when Predaking is available for ordering again.
As long as the item remains unopened, I have until October 10th to request a replacement.

After a bit of nagging, they issued a return authorisation.
Unfortunately, since it is likely a different address, the post office is not likely to allow me to 'return to sender' for free. (the original address label is covered up by an Australia Post shipping label, so unless their tracking computer has Amazon's address, they won't know where to return it to)

So either way I'm out, as I'm likely to be paying a lot in shipping (it is heavy), and since I want the packaging, the other option is buying another one and selling this one at a loss.

That be so annoying ! you could also get a discount on it from them instead couldn't you ?. so at least you wouldn't be selling it at a loss ..

If I send it back for a replacement, and have to pay postage (because it might not be going back to the exact location that sent it, so might not qualify for return-to-sender), it will cost me a minimum of $62.35. :(
(just goes to show how good Amazon shipping is)

I might look at getting the partial credit instead, and just see if I can sell this one for at least the difference... And see if I can remove the labels without damaging the box too much.

How much did it cost you to buy and ship to Australia for Predaking from Amazon?

griffin
27th September 2013, 01:31 PM
Predaking is now available again from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CM5DA62/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1). Which would explain the automated email I got saying that since I was a recent customer, if I was not satisfied with the one I got, I can now claim a replacement.

For the question above, shipping to me was $12.18 (because the weight is wrong on this item - it only says it weighs a pound, which is only about 400gms).
It's probably why they were skimping on the packaging, because they were losing too much money on shipping, but no one has thought to correct the weight of the item on the listing.

I managed to get the "replacement authorisation" cancelled, and got a partial refund instead (30% - I only asked for 20%) so that I can just order another one. When the second one gets here, I'll look at finding a buyer for the first one, as close to the difference as I can.

Those boxes look appalling. Filthy if you enjoy keeping the box or are a collector. SHAME ON AMAZON.

In stark contrast, my BBTS Predaking box came encased in its orignal snug brown outer cardboard carton as added protection. I had mine shipped as PoL so he was placed inside a larger shipping box. Paid a little more through BBTS, but worth it I reckon.

No doubt that the 'book cover' styled box would be good for collectors or those who want to display him in the box.

However, all my TF toys are for play and displayed out of the box. The enjoyment it brings to my wife & I when the nephews come to visit is priceless. And the empty box would look pretty silly when you open the 'book cover'.

It arrived a week ago, in a separate shipping box, undamaged this time. :)
Since they are packed one to a master carton from the factory, I don't know why Amazon are removing them, just to put it in different carton to ship it.

Compared to the 2010 JP version, the gold is slightly different (noticeable next to each other, but not if they are apart).

They've also fixed up the weight too, from 1 pound to 4 pounds (about 2kgs), which is why shipping is double what it cost people back when it was first released (at $11).
