I'm not going to buy MP Soundblaster just for Ratbat... that's just daft (IMO). Makes me glad that MP Soundwave is compatible w/ the G1 cassettes -- if I ever feel the urge for my MP Soundwave to have Ratbat, Slugfest, Overkill, Beastbox or Squawktalk, I can just use my G1s! :D Having said that, I think this is a good idea for a repaint, even if it doesn't personally interest me.

How about releasing Ratbat with their own unique repaints of existing MP Cassette moulds? That way they could have:
+ MP Ratbat
+ MP Cobalt Sentry
+ MP Frenzy (in original G1 blues)
+ MP Enemy
+ MP Flipsides
These Cassettes probably wouldn't sell well individually, but they could lump some of them in a single combined pack and reckon it'd sell. Maybe pick Ratbat plus another four or five of them.

That's what I thought at first, but it looks like RK have it at the same price as the second release of Soundwave.

Hopefully Ratbat will see a separate release at some point in the future. In he short term it will help drive sales of MP-13B, but there's going to be a lot of people who can't or won't fork out that much primarily to get the tape and TT would be silly not to capitalise on that down the track. Maybe we'll get a twin pack of the two pack-in tapes, Laserbeak and Ratbat?

I say let them improve on the Ravage MP mould as that toy is warranting some serious articulation and pair it up with Ratbat as a 2 pack. I wonder if they have the dinos on the way as a 2 pack - ooh MP slugfest and Overkill... wonder how will they approach this. The 3rd parties have been puking out a lot of the cassettron versions (KFC) lately, well articulated looking G1 versions, not much MP looking.

Getting a KO Ratbat isn't going to affect TakaraTOMY one iota. All it's going to do is potentially further harm other fans by sustaining the illegal counterfeit industry which aims to deceive collectors. KOs only affect companies when they're knocking off a current toy (e.g. KO MP Lambor). Knocking off a toy that HasTak hasn't produced in 27 years isn't really going to make a difference to them. And do you really want to have a fake in your collection? Eewww...

Getting a legit G1 Ratbat isn't going to reward TakTOM either, because you're going to be getting a second hand toy (even if it's MOSC, it would've already been purchased from retail long ago). That way you can still have your G1 Ratbat toy, but without contributing to an illegal industry that seeks to harm your fellow collectors. TakaraTOMY won't care either way -- the best way you can voice your complaint to Hasbro or TakTOM is to simply not purchase their product; we all vote with our wallets. :o

I think you kinda answered your own question before. I believe RK and BBTS have ordered the Asia stock through Hasbro HK and the Japanese stores are waiting for Takara's solicitations.

I boought a Reissue Ratbat a year or so ago and I was pretty impressed with the engineering in that toy. If they never release an MP Ratbat seperate to soundblaster it won't be the end of my world, though I'm always interested in a new mold like that.

Because the Japanese retailers actually wait for the proper solicitations to come out from Takara with the pricing etc... All the US stores are just throwing up speculative place holders to try and get desperate people to lock in an order with them. As soon as one of the big boys does it everyone else has to put up a pre-order or risk losing out on major business.

All the bits are integrated. You can see the gold bits on his back fold up behind the wings for tape mode.

Have another look. The chest for Ratbat folds around from his feet so he may be formed into a casette AROUND his gold bits. Also i saw a alt pic and it had gold pieces within the casette. Hope it is all self contained :D

I would happily buy this, a real character (not like 9b & 10b and i bought them). Though i would be dirty if the red cube was an exclusive.

I was pondering Ratbat's transformation last night actually!
Comparing Rat and Cassette mode, you can see the top centre of the cassette folds back behind his head. I think the weapons are in 2 pieces, top and bottom. The top half looks like it will fold up to form the edge of the cassette similar to how Laserbeak's legs transform. That might be wrong though cause that'd mean a side of the weapons won't be gold, they'll have cassette decals on them, which'd be a shame. Then the bottom part of the weapons will slide up to give room for the black chest piece to rotate to the other side. The claw/pointy bit at the top of his wings look like they swivel around to fill in the odd shape of the lower wings when they're folded around to the back as well.

I stand corrected. :)

These new photos give a much better view of what's happening in cassette mode. you can clearly see the thrusters of the backpack on the side of the tape, it looks like they fold right out so might not have cassette colours visible on the back pack bits, which you would sort of expect if they were going to integrate them like this.

From the look of it, I'd say the back will be more like Laserbeak than Ravage - the boosters will be flat on one side and the back of the head and chest should be flat too when flipped around. The paint rubs are most likely due to it still being a painted prototype. I'd be moulding it in pink and black plastic, if I were them, so I wouldn't read too much into it.

Hasbro never releases new MP moulds though. Hence my suggestion (http://otca.com.au/boards/showpost.php?p=373353&postcount=13) is based on repaints of existing moulds. :o

Takara would have to first design those cassettes as we all know how much effort Hasbro put into MP design :eek:

Soundblaster hasn't had a Western media presence, to any great degree, this is true - However, that's not to say that figures (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Soundblaster) haven't been released. ;)

A lack of Western media presence didn't stop Hasbro from releasing their verison of reissue Stepper (Ricochet), Alternators Ricochet and Generations Sky Shadow (Blackshadow). :o Although the latter two were never released in Australia. :/

Having said that, I could understand Hasbro's hesitance in releasing MP Soundblaster. The character is much more obscure in the West, and also a lot of people who already have MP Soundwave won't want to get it again. It could work as a limited exclusive... not sure if it'd work as a regular store release toy though.

That might end up being the case :); From what I've heard there's been quite a bit of scalping going on with Hasbro's Soundwave, so perhaps this could be a reprieve? :o - But then if the scalpers were separating the Cassettes from Soundwave and selling it all separately :mad:, having Ratbat would likely only exacerbate the situation I suppose... :(

That Ratbat would be a painted and decaled resin prototype for promotion (test shot), thus the paint wear. Actual toy would be dyed plastic and tampo printing.

I wouldn't count on Soundblaster getting a Hasbro release. Black Convoy and Sunstorm didn't.

It's in Hasbro's interests to release as much product as possible, it's up to the retailers to decide if they want to stock it. Most of the MP releases have been exclusives, mostly to TRU.

Thundercracker was a TRU release and sold reasonably well in the USA, whereas Skywarp was a Costco exclusive and was eventually cleared for $10 in some stores (apparently).

Fall of Cybertron Soundblaster apparently sold well, although short-packed 1 in a case with 3 Soundwaves. I never saw one on the shelves, but I saw plenty of Soundwaves.

A Hasbro release of MP Soundblaster might get packed with Ravage or other repainted cassettes as an incentive, dunno. I'd still be suprised if they did it.:eek:

Apparently (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/japanese-transformers-40/masterpiece-soundblaster-update-alternate-chestplates-for-toy-and-cartoon-accuracy-178704/), the MP Soundblaster toy will come with a chest that can be coloured purple (like in the cartoon) or red (like the toy)... possibly the chest door is clear, and will come with two coloured inserts for you to choose which version you want.

They certainly try to prevent fans complaining about not appeasing everyone... just like how they had Grimlock's eyes be both red and blue, for cartoon and toy fans.

Just like the Gen2 Sideswipe, the Hasbro HK coin for Soundblaster looks to be the same as the Soundwave coin, but with a slightly different card case (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-masterpiece-47/asia-exclusive-mp-13b-soundblaster-commemorative-coin-179378/).
This item comes out 21st March (it was the 29th earlier, so must have been moved forward).

I ordered so long ago my order wasn't charged via Paypal. I'm wondering how much extra Paypal adds to the cost? I paid $164 for Soundblaster with EMS shipping. How much did you guys that had to use Paypal pay?

Paypal eats a lot, but it not like you got a choice.

Personally I go for EMS because I find that the less time it spends in the hands of Australia Post and it's foreign equivalents the less chance of damage. I've only had one EMS damaged over the years, ironically it was my MP-13 that got stuck in Brisbane for over a week thanks to a little flood;). But I find slower packages get damaged a lot more often, normally not enough to hurt the item inside but I don't like taking the chance.

Either way, I did a two part review because smaller videos are more palatable when folks are watching. Shorter videos normally generate more views than long videos. Having two part reviews generates more views overall in that people will come back for PART TWO, whereas they would just be watching one longer video if I only did one.

And lastly, if I focus on one figure in one and the other in part two, then people who are only interested in Ratbat need to watch part one only.

OK, that makes sense. Two video's equal more views. I still prefer just one video about 10 minutes or less. But I do hate how long some reviewers like Optibotimus make their videos. After all, how much do you really need to say about a single figure?

You can only get the coins from Hasbro HK resellers. The coins are not made by Takara Tomy so Japanese based resellers like HLJ don't have it, but they normally are cheaper that Hasbro HK resellers.
