The golden coloured Soundwave toy for Linkin Park's store SURU had a release party in LA (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/generation-1-1/linkin-park-soundwave-released-178462/), with band members in attendance.
Ending up with more of a caramel colouring with some shiny gold parts added, this set of figures (Soundwave, Laserbeak, Buzzsaw, Ravage, Ratbat) is being sold at their store for US$150, but is already being found at other (mostly Asian) sources.
Even though this is being touted as a shelf-warming worst-redeco ever, it should be noted that the "urine coloured" Shining Ultra Magnus from 2001 was also considered the worst redeco ever, but can now command a hefty price (after spending nearly 10 years being near worthless - you could buy one for under $50, easily). The last one to sell on ebay last week was US$340.

I wonder if the LP guys were embarressed by it? After all it looks almost nothing like the concept.

Poor Soundwave. He tried so hard & got so far...

It's... a bit weak, a missed opportunity, but I agree with griffin's comment. It may one day become one of those "I wished I'd gotten one when they were so much cheaper and shelf-warming" rare collectibles. Time will tell, I guess. In the meantime though, it is Soundwave and I gotta have one. ;)

Interesting to read that one of the band members actually collects. I wouldn't mind seeing how many he's got..
Pity about this little Soundwave.. a bit more paint could've been a big improvement.
If it pops up in front of me for cheap, i'll consider.
Caramelwave ... not just an ice-cream flavour anymore!

Hah! :p
So I love Linkin Park (or loved, past tense, after their last album(s)) and I love Soundwave, but I don't think I could ever bring myself to buy this. ;)

I ordered through SURU when the order went up*. I just got my shipping notice and tracking number today, but I'm sure I haven't been charged (yet)...
*I don't have a lot of love for RK

How much did they sting you for shipping?

I think it was about $40. From memory. Would have to check the confirmation.

At least they were able to sell to non-Americans. If all these Asian sources didn't have them, at least people could get it from SURU... if they had more than 10 in to begin with. :p
Saying that...
Well there are 7 left on the suru store.
...how did you work that out? Did you just try to buy a heap and it reduced it back to 7 in the cart?
Maybe it's a limit per customer? As it's still in stock, and I'd have thought it would be out of stock by now if they only had 7 left after the first day.
