Are you familiar with the Trading Post? - As it is indeed a case of communicating a meeting time & purchasing the item/s in-person, unless the seller is actually willing to post said item/s (Rarely). ;)

I've used Gumtree for buying and selling, it's great, but for me it has always been person to person. Yes, actual human contact, I know :p
Its great because there are no fees and you get cash in hand when selling. I guess if you find something you really want that is too far to do a meet up you could ask about posting and online payment etc. But the safety nets aren't in place like e-bay if you pay someone and they don't send you the item.

Also if you sell anything prepare to be low-balled to the max. I advertised my old mountain bike on there for $350 and got 3 offers of $100. I (not so) politely told them where to go.

My sister had some of the same when she as selling up before going overseas. There are some nutters out there who want stuff for free, and believe it or not d!cks who just troll to get you worked up. When I list I generally list higher to allow for negotiation in the downwards direction. It would also depend on where you live, Townsville people are pretty laid back so everything I have done on Gumtree has gone smooth.

Wow I am so ashamed as that seller's suburb is where I am originally from. On behalf of Morley WA 6062 I apologise to you all :p

Also if you're selling what you anticipate to be a popular item on Gumtree don't post up your phone number or address, just the suburb. Let buyers contact you by email and basically screen out all the low ballers or time wasters.

You'll be amazed at who will show up to your door uninvited if you post your address.

lots of lowball and no shows mostly, pisses me off when people offer you for something and in the end turns the deal down.

the cost of my sms probably cost me a lot as I don't have a huge phone plan.

Kind of ticks me off with people who don't honour their part when an offer is made.

A dealer with a bit of capital could purchase the lot and seperate it all up and sell it but there would be a tonne of work involved and you couldn't buy it without inspecting in person.

at 24000, 250 pieces works out to be $96 each. so they really all need to be premium pieces to justify that sort of money. image 6 shows a whole lot of small items you'd be lucky to get ten bucks a piece for. Based on the lot being MISB and more collectable than your average prime and bumblebee, I think he'll be lucky to move the lot for more than 15000 without some sort of seperation.

I'm wondering if it ever gets sold if the buyer is member. Is this seller a member too?

drifand

I would say yes, and I would say probably keeping quiet about it. I will understand as he would want to earn at his best interest and not selling it off at low balling prices.

Being said it is probably testing water on how the responses are like, I am thinking almost none or probably some of us asking if he would part responses.
Most gumtree users are looking for cheap steals. I am quite used to the very bad low balling responses as well some way unreasonable.

I don't think it would sell that easily. Even if I won lotto, I actually be going to ebay and selecting what I want to be honest.

The AFA Graded one would not be from the Australian sales of the figure as he wouild not have had time to send it off and recieve it to already have it up for sale.

It's just humourous that someone has AFA Graded a current toy. Though if you think about the purpose of AFA Grading something, (in my mind, to preserve it in it's classified status. esentially as a Close to perfect specimen) this is the best way of going about it.

If you AFA grade a 25 year old boxed toy, the tape is going to be potentially worn, there is more likelihood of damage to the box in some manner, in this case it's sealed now and in 20 to 30 years will probably be the definitive sample of the Hasbro Masterpiece Soundwave.

Is this really worth grading though? In 20 years there will be many sealed specimens as this is a mass produced toy all being bought by collectors who are taking care of them (unlike vitange G1). I would be very surprised if in 20 years this is worth more than 3x retail (unlike 100x retail for MISB G1).

Thats a good question and there are so many facets to an answer it's proabably worth another thread. :p

I have to say Gumtree is getting more Transformers on it now, I was doing a search on e-bay and the ad at the top was a live feed to Gumtree showing me all the Transformers available and there were a lot. One thing that jumped out was an MP Megs for only $200!!

If someone believes it may be worth a lot more money in the future then I think it's a good idea. There were plenty of collectors back in the G1 days collecting... I'm sure there are more collectors today but the thing is before the next 20 years are up a lot of those collectors will have sold what they have, and sometimes you just don't know what will oneday be considered a valuable collectors item.

It can happen its just less likely. Similar thing happened in 1997 when they released a new wave a star wars figures. People went nuts and bought them all. 15 years later - people cant get rid of them and only a handful are worth anything. Much better bet is buying stuff that is actually scarce (good condition g1) if you want return on investment. But if you buy what YOU like, you will never lose.

Then there was the belt variations on Leia, circles on Fett's hands, rings on Luke's saber etc etc  The majority are worth peanuts now. If only i could find a short Saber in the long tray version of Obi Wan :p
