Some comments from story writers James Roberts and John Barber (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/comics-16/james-roberts-and-john-barber-talk-transformers-dark-cybertron-and-what-comes-next-178687/) have given us some details of how much the Dark Cybertron story arc will cross between the two series, and, revealing that after the 12 issue story is completed, there will be a third ongoing to run alongside the other two.

Now THAT wasn't expected...

Here's the full interview (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=48782) if anyone is interested.

So, I'm right into MTMTE but never started RID

Is the general opinion that I should quickly binge through RID before the crossover ?

Not at all. It was about 5 months worth of plot, dragged out to about 18 months of releases with a gentle smattering of Orion Pax issues one every few months.

Save your time and money and just Tfwiki it, as it seems the RiD side of events is tying more into the Furmanverse "ations" books than anything RiD ever truly did.

A promo image has been released by IDW (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/comics-16/idw-transformers-post-dark-cybertron-teaser-image-179064/), teasing the direction of their Transformers comics after Dark Cybertron has ended (in March).

Not sure if it counts as a spoiler if this is going to be advertised by IDW... but the possible setting of the next phase of IDW Transformers looks to be a little closer to home (after quite a few issues on Cybertron and in space).

I stopped buying the Dark Cybertron issues after issue 1. Thought I'd wait for the trade paperback instead...

For those of you that have read it, is the story worth buying for? Because I don't find myself missing my TF comics.

We are halfway through and learnt next to nothing, bar that issues missing a MtMtE sequence or three is noticeably awful and that Shockwave is a Bond villain.

It could all turn around but so far it feels like a comic to sell toys rather than a comic featuring toys.

On the positive side, I saw this quoted on the IDW forums from James Roberts on Twitter

"And we have lift off! @TheJohnBarber has just approved the individual story outlines for issues #31 to #54 of MTMTE. N-World, here we come!"

So there's that to look forward to.

#54... another 2 years of stories! Awesome.

Two more teaser images for life after Dark Cybertron have been released by IDW.

The first one above teased that Optimus could be returning to Earth.

The second one has Windblade (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/comics-16/idw-post-dark-cybertron-windblade-teaser-image-179073/), who will be the new "Drift", so will be heavily featured over the next year.

The third one would have to be a bit of a spoiler (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/comics-16/idw-post-dark-cybertron-teaser-image-3-179083/), as a certain character looks to be joining the MTMTE series (the one with the Lost Light), AND sporting an Autobot symbol.
(probably best not to look if you are reading the series)

RID is focusing on Earth, while the new Windblade series is focusing on Cybertron, leaving MTMTE to continue exploring space on the Lost Light with a new "Autobot" in command.

Funny. On Wednesday, I was looking at the teaser images and thought 'maybe they're a single poster chopped in pieces and can be put together once all revealed'.

Ah crap! Wish I hadn't read that about MTMTE :( - but I was warned so my own fault.

Yeah, I was afraid from the cover of the 3rd comic that Earth was coming back into the picture. Sigh, its been a great few years without damn humans being involved

I don't mind some 'spoilers' for after Dark Cybertron since I can't wait for Dark Cybertron to be over and for season 2 of MTMTE to start, and I don't think MTMTE is spoilt since that story is basically on hold anyway until the crossover is done.

Look at Marvel, they've announced Peter Parker's return in April before Amazing Spider-man 2 starts screening.

The return to Earth in RID is part marketing. I wouldn't be surprised if Hasbro asked for it with TF4 due to start screening in June.

Not happy with a return to status quo, with Prime in charge on Earth after the Autobots leave Cybertron, exactly where we were at the beginning of the ongoing written by Costa.

Part of the reason that the dual series have been so successful is due to their focus on the transformers as characters rather than how they react and adapt to humans and the earth.

MtMtE sounds intriguing, I get a Drift vibe from Windblade, the blurb screams " everyone look at me I'm super important!" But I hope it is just a bad blurb. RiD looks likely to be worse than it was, which means I'll happily drop it if it continues to be boring.

Two other fembots mentioned in the update to that link above - Chromia and Nautica.
Looks like we could see a number of new fembot characters introduced... either spawning more toys, or more fan-made toys.

The header across all three series intrigues me as well.

Also under Windblade is a Titan in City/ship mode. Not sure if it is Metroplex or not but I'd wager it is (Alpha Trion to return then with the fembots?)

No mention of Rodimus or Magnus in the MtMtE synopsis so either they are dead or not on the Lost Light. Surely they would not take Meg's as leader well?

Okay thanks for your thoughts. I may wait for some reviews before I decide whether to buy the Dark Cybertron TPB then.... :)

Yeah Dark Cybertron is dull and uninteresting. It does seem as if it is imposed rather than a free creative effort like the previous MTMTE runs and even RID despite not being very good.

I just hope it ends soon enough and that not much damage comes as a result so we can go back to regular MTMTE quality writing. Before MTMTE issues at Kings sold out within a day, apparently after Dark Cybertron, the issues remain for weeks.

Yup, 100% on the same page.

I don't think Dark Cybertron has damaged MTMTE at all. James Roberts occasionally tweets about season 2. Definitely interested in what makes everyone declare themselves an Autobot and I know Megatron will be handled well. As for RID? It needs a real shake up and I don't know if a return to Earth will do it. Although Police Action was really good (was that Barber or Roberts?)

"Police Action" was still Mike Costa.

Given recent lackluster RID scripts, I'm almost missing earth, and humans. There's only so many times you can stand the characters giving dull internal monologues about living in post war Cybertron, and foreshadowing future threats that will never materialize, or turn out to be minor diversions. While I have enjoyed some of the flashback origin stories, the other recent RID stories have lacked drama. As bad as some of the previous runs have been, at least they managed to maintain a sense of drama. RID and now perhaps consequently Dark Cybertron, just feels like it's meandering to nowhere in particular. Perhaps it will all make sense in the end, but they better not need a whole issue of explanation like RID did. :(
