Good News: Soundwave has started to hit stores (in NSW at least), no word on Acidstorm.


Edit: Further ringing around, some stores have received very early shipments of 1-3 figures. Shipments are expected to be completed in the next couple of days with each store getting roughly 10-15 units of Soundwave, items should be hitting the floor in 3+ days after they are shipped and sorted by in store staff. They have no idea what's happening with Acidstorm.

Spoke to a helpful person at Joondalup, WA today. I definitely wasn't the first call he received about it! He said that he can see on the computer that Parramatta as being the only one who's received it yet. He suggested calling back on Monday as he was waiting for a reply from head office who he had emailed that morning.

If, as he said, Parra is an isolated case for the moment, then I wouldn't bother in WA til at least Monday. Unless it's a dated release (ie: put out for a catalogue, etc) usually you find that WA (at least in my experience with JB Hi-Fi) is a couple of days behind the east coast (we used to check for if stock had been received in Adelaide yet as far as an ETA goes on when WA would get stock delivered).

For other NSW/VIC/QLD stores? Have a good hunt this weekend! And remember - if you get one held, ask them to require ID before releasing it - we remember the shit that happened with MP-10 @ TRU, right?

The girls at Parra was great, I rang their basic number listed on the website, they passed me to someone on the floor (2mins on hold), then that floor person said she'd check out back (5mins on hold), came back and confirmed they'd just come in.

She said I could put as many as I wanted of the 4 they had on hold - but I thought reserving all 4 would be a bit sad for others who wanted any. So I grabbed one and a spare.

Yeah i find it odd also. I rang Aspley (QLD) this morning once i started seeing the posts that he has arrived and the attendant said that they can't reserve one without them actually being in the physical store (their computer system can't do that) and that with a price point like $150.00 he says they will be readily available....... PFFT! I guess it shows the different customer service between stores. Although he did tell me they way their unpacking etc happens and told me to definitely ring by Tuesday. They don't get deliveries on weekends and they won't unpack anything till tuesday.

I just got off the phone to them 8:30am - I spoke to who I assume is the manager as the store was not actually open yet. She looked SW up in the system, and saw that it was an active line and that it was in transit from NSW. She says that when it's in transit, she would expect them to arrive around this time next week.

She asked me if I wanted one or was just "looking for it". I told her I was really wanting to get my hands on one and she said she'd take my contact details down and put them "in her diary" (which is what made me assume she was a manager of sorts) and that when they came in she would put one aside for me and give me a call. She did not mention any kind of current list of people wanting the figure and she said they were expecting 10 pcs.

Nabbed the only one left on the shelf at Penrith at 9.05. Looked like they might have had 4 there. None of the staff knew if there were anymore, as the action figure manager wasn't due in till 11.
The young lady on the checkouts remarked that they had been "very popular" and the box was "very pretty", so I guess that a few have been sold.

I'd give them a ring before heading in so as to not waste your time, as they may have more stock. Good luck!

Why doesn't TRU Oz follow TRU USA and limit 1 per customer? All it takes is for one Scalper to clean out an entire store of its very limited stock.

Or a preorder system were you leave a 20% for example deposit & then collect from your nominated store. At present, TRU have no intent of implementing either.

Picked up a carton of two from Parramatta this morning. The carton had 2 staples half punched into it which scratched one of the boxes. The other one was for my mate who's stopped collecting since Beast Wars, but has probably been lusting after a Soundwave since he was 7. Delivered it to him straight away. Could be a TRU staff member scalping. A few pages back a board member reported that eBay auction very close to the first sighting, and there's also another mention of TRU staff members holding it for themselves. I guess their cost would also be slightly less due to a TRU staff discount?


i really want a soundwave , but life is just too short worrying about an item that will make you anxious and excited. really, happiness cannot be traveled to, or earned. It is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace & gratitude. So if i cant get a soundwave, hey least i still got other robots in my closet :)

I think it is. When you look inside of the chest, it appears to be an extra piece, seperate from the clear, although darker, plastic used for the tape cover. The pin holding the cover in place is passed through both pieces anyway, unless it has some effect on the spring?

If the earlier TT mould had it as well, then it seems like an inherent design issue that Hasbro overlooked or didn't bother with. I can see why they used a separate piece of plastic to give that gimmick additional tolerance, but surely a less brittle type of plastic would also do?

I wonder if TT will fix it in the Soundblaster version.

I like UltraMarginal's idea (see thread link provided by Sinnertwin) -- post sighting on this thread, but consider buying for others on the board if they live in a remote are (i.e. more than 2h drive from their nearest TRU). It does suck that scalpers may benefit from sightings too, but so would genuine fans who may not be members of this community. :)

If I were you I'd hang onto the receipt, and if I found another Soundwave I'd get it then refund the first one. Or failing that, buy another one and sell the first one at a cheaper price (since it's loose and does have a flaw, but there might be someone willing to buy it at a reduced price). Obviously the former would be more financially beneficial for you. :o

It's not, Ive just checked mine and yes there is a stressmark on that plastic. looks like the eject play wont be played as much anymore. So much for the figure being a "Masterpiece" :rolleyes::mad: oh and mine is a TakaraTomy one...I would imagine the Hasbro one wouldn't be any different (except for the eye color)

I've closed that thread now so that it doesn't catch fire during the actual sale period. Apart from Megatron who has decided to source from a closer person in melbourne, there was no other serious interest.


I'd suggest picking up a second soundwave for someone else only if theyve asked you directly, otherwise you'll potentially get stuck having to take it back to the store.

I'm picking up two, one for me and one for a friend who is overseas at the moment.


As for the stress mark on the clear plastic at the door hinge, is it a washer or is that litle circle of clear plastic attached to something else? if it's just a washer, the stress mark may have happened during installation and it probably wont see any more loads to make it stress more than it already has.

I saw your post UM and gave them a call. They obviously were getting many people asking about them as the person sounded quite uncertain, but they found one and said they would hold it for me if I could get there by Tuesday afternoon, but preferably by the end of Monday. I work in Leichhardt and rang at 5pm so that wasn't going to happen. BUT they were going to be working until 10 and, if I could make it, would let me in after store hours to purchase it. Total class act.

As UM said, the stock is spread across a number of pallets so they won't get them all in one hit. and will be strewn over the next few days.

Yup I figured that out on day 1 as when I even wanted to give the serial code the lady ask me to hang on as she would refer me to someone in charged of the boy's toy section. Is the same with another TRU I called.

I am nervous if I can't get it in WA but so is a lot here. But if I can't get it, no sweat, I just get the Takara version unless someone is selling it to us cheap in WA.

I did actually ask for the (super helpful) person who I'd met in-store, but they weren't available that day. The person I spoke to on the phone also asked me rather condescendingly "How would we get new stock on a weekend?"

A lot of people posting pics of MP SW show that it has 5 cassettes, though the TRU listing says only comes with Laserbeak.
I'm torn, if he comes with all five then definitely a purchase will be made, if not then I'm unsure.

I think it'll be most unlikely that it just comes with Lazerbeak. the TRU versions all have 5 cassettes and it's unlikely they are selling the takaratomy version.

just picked up my acid storm from castle hill they told me that online sales come from store stock so all of their stock went to online sales

(although, the US TRU site had similar issues with not taking items out of stock until they were physically posted - items would sell out between the time you paid for the order to the time a person physically grabbed the items to box and ship them out)

If someone gets theirs delivered, tell us the sender address, to see if it is from their Sydney Warehouse, or from an actual store.

Unfortunately for those ordering online, the toy had arrived at stores (and sold out) before the listing was put up on their website... so I'm not sure why the website was saying any particular quantity, as it couldn't possibly know in real time how many units were still available in each jurisdiction. And it seems that some stores are preferring to honour their reservations over the online orders.

Speaking with the "person in charge" at the Garden City store, she described the exact same thing - online orders are sent to the nearest store to your Postcode, and if that store is out of stock, the order just keeps getting transferred to the next nearest store.

As Sinnertwin commented, I told her that that would have to be the most difficult process to do, just to minimise shipping costs... as there would have to be a lot of orders cancelled/refunded, just because it was no longer available when the order was sent to all of the nearby stores. (I imagine that they won't then source it from interstate stores, as it would then cost them more in shipping than what they charged you)

This could be why Perth members are not having any luck, because their nearest stores don't yet have any stock to sell (if they are left with any after taking reservations).

The Garden City store only got in 10, and they were all reserved, with a limit of one per person. The Aspley store apparently ran out as well, as they were chasing up stock from the Garden City store to fulfill an online order (according to the person at Garden City, the Aspley store is the primary store for Brisbane, which gets all the online orders first before chasing up stock from Garden City and Gold Coast stores).
So unless you are near the Pacific Fair store, or can get to them (or call them), Brisbane now looks to be OUT OF SOUNDWAVES.
(this is probably why my online order for Soundwave hasn't been processed yet... and is likely to be refunded/cancelled)

Too bad if this figure shows up in the next catalogue, as none of the stores are likely to have any (and very few would even make it to the shelves to begin with).

In hindsight, yes. But I think after they got burnt with Ghost Starscream, they might have though 600 was as much of a risk as they were willing to take.
If they had toy buyers who knew where the interests lie, it might give them a better idea... but even then, it is just the collector community, and who would think that there would be at least 600 people (collectors/enthusiasts/dealers) in Australia who were desperate enough to want this particular toy this badly.
Unfortunately they had this order locked in with Hasbro about 6 months ago. So even with the 4 month delay, and lots of people chasing them up with release info (which they don't get with other toy items), they still didn't think it was worth increasing the original order... or, were unable to increase it.

Who knows. The head office isn't very forthcoming with answers. And the person in charge at the Garden City store was a bit "snappy", as she wasn't too keen on being corrected on the stats of how many Soundwaves Australia got, or how many TRU stores they have in Australia.

They have also ordered an extra 120 units of Acid Storm compared to Thundercracker too. And its not all about market research & what the fans want, there are also a lot of variables which have to be taken into account when ordering.

Another flaw of this process is that if a store has not unpacked their pallets, the computer system will only see 'out of stock' and then move on to the next-closest store looking for one that can fulfil your online order. Potentially, after a few hops, your order could be rejected and reported to you as 'unavailable.' Meanwhile, the stores that hadn't unpacked yet have now unpacked, and their stock is out on the shelves a day or so later.

Case in point - My house mate ordered online. His order has been confirmed as dispatched from NSW (we're in SA.) Based on the system described above, we must assume there was NO STOCK in SA yesterday.

BUT, THERE WAS. Trucks with stock arrived in SA yesterday. I can confirm that. The store closest me didn't unpack until today, and contacted me. when I arrived they still hadn't unpacked properly - stock was out the back. Now I'm looking at the two-piece shipping carton (173 of 300, to be exact.) And can tell you that Hasbro's warehouse in Regents Park NSW, marked the box as received from Hong Kong on Oct 31 (last Thursday.)


Basically, I'm unconvinced that that is how the on-line orders work, it just seems too convoluted and hard to manage. I will concede happily though, if someone else has more supporting evidence!

Oh, I sold my Takara one already. Not overly concerned. Not sure if I raised anything they will care. lol But if it helps, I wouldn't mind. At least Perth members could appreciate "some" stock than none.

Just got off the phone with Aspley QLD store and he said that they were all snapped up by 9:10am yesterday morning after being put on the shelves that morning. They are sold out.
He said they did have to ship some out but couldn't tell me where they were sent. He said if I ring customer service they will be able to give me more info.
They have requested double the amount of restocking numbers for Soundwave but not sure if they will or when get them.
No sign or idea of Acid Storm

Sounds like stores are begging head office for more, but all 600 would have been sent out in pre-allocations already.
Since it took 6-8 months just to get in this batch, I doubt we'll see another shipment, unless Hasbro manufactures more. (which they would be wise to do, as it sold out everywhere in the world, and they shouldn't be producing Movie toys yet to tie up the factories)

I've been calling up TRU Perth stores this week. Cannington had someone there who took my name down and said they'd call when they got their stock.

Both Cannington and Morley have said they've had it listed as in transit (managed to get people who knew/could be bothered how to check first time I called them). Joondalup told me they hadn't even received an in transit notice yet. Innaloo wasn't helpful.

Called back Morley today and the guy there said it sold out, he saw it last week. So obviously didn't really know his stuff.

Odd that they would get 3; they're packed two per case. It looks like TRU could be splitting the stock to ensure a more even spread across their stores, or as close to.

That doesn't bode well. Reboxing is rarely as good a packing solution as the original cartons. I dare say more than a few boxes will be dinged or have crushed corners.

Well my ordeal is over. Courier dropped off at 8am this morning, opened up the package at about 9am, Soundwave has scratches on cassette window and chipped paint on the feet, blue rumble has missing red paint on the eyes, red frenzy has excess paint all over the legs, didn't bother looking at the other cassettes, boxed it back up and got a refund at my local store. :)

Also the box was dinged up. The lady at the store said yeah the box is slightly damaged. I said don't worry about the box the figures have bad paint apps, chips, and scratches.

Oh well got a Takara and a Hasbro from the states that are perfect. I wasn't meant for a third.

The QC on this set is the worst I've ever seen. It's pretty bad.
