The recoloured Generations Megatron toy (with the football), has finally been announced as to how it is being officially released.

Unfortunately for some toy fans, it is being released in a boxset of three pairs of themed shoes... so is likely to be a very expensive set if you are just after the toy.

We get to see some nice press-release images though (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/other-news-20/nike-unveils-megatron-rising-sneakers-figure-collectors-pack-178799/).

This might prompt people to start searching ebay for more of the loose samples that were floating around. They won't come with packaging, but it looks like this toy won't come with its own packaging now anyway.

Now to see what this set ends up selling for...

I looking at the ones on ebay ....how come they come in the red box ?
Might be that they released the limited edition ones that come with the figure and a mass retail one for individual shoes ..?

There was a single pack about a week or two ago, and now this 3-pack (with toy) coming out soon... which is likely to be three times that price.

Looks like I'm not the only one realising that the Megatron toy is not likely to be released on its own (for a lot less than the price of three expensive pairs of shoes), as the prices of the loose figures on ebay are now going way up again.
They bottomed out at just a couple dollars each (after the first few hit over $100), and now I just got outbid on one at $41 with half a day still to go.
(unless it is people here jumping on them after I mentioned it above)

The seller has also suddenly started listing several of them, possibly to capitalise on the renewed interest in this figure.

any idea where we can get the limited edition boxset from and price as yet?

Prices of these loose Megatron figures on ebay are creeping back up, as people are realising it is a "cheaper" way to get it now.

The four that I bid on yesterday ended at - US$47, US$41, US$46, US$51... and I that was after I raised my max bid from $30 to $36. :(

Not a priority figure for me, but it would be fun to have a Transformers toy that comes with its own football.

I think somewhat brought this at the Parra Fair. Nice for an exclusive and does have value in that but it isn't really to my tastes.

I was just looking at the completed listings for Calvin Megatrons (http://www.ebay.com/sch/lena81822/m.html?item=331070334290&_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=calvin&LH_Complete=1&rt=nc), and you can see that the moment the news hit on TFW on the 20th, the prices went from mostly $3-10 each, to mostly $45-50 each.

I wonder if it is worth waiting to see if the interest will die back down before the seller runs out... :(

That's a huge amount of 'extras' produced and sold just by one seller....
You'd think the factory would notice THAT many on such a low production run?

They're probably rejects or a batch that didn't make it to packaging. A couple of things I bought from that seller had QC issues.

I guess that's a better (cheaper) option to the 3-pack - just buying one pair of shoes to get the Megatron toy... which has a better looking box than I expected. It looks like it's own box too (it doesn't look deep enough to be just sitting in the top of a shoe box).

It might end up being worth buying one, and reselling the shoes (close to what the retail price is) to shoefans, just to get the toy at a cheap price. Otherwise, people buying the shoes and reselling the toy are likely to be getting just as much back off the toy from toyfans.

Another 10 hours and it'll be mayhem among the shoe fans and toy fans fighting over that link.

I totally forgot... :(
I was up until midnight too, and remembered at about 10m when talking to Demonac about DrWho.... but then forgot. :(

It's weird, but the product page that uteiki posted here (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showpost.php?p=388457&postcount=19) only shows the shoes now, but no Megatron toys. So maybe it was really limited, and not enough to cover all the shoes in stock.
(I would not have been happy if I bought a pair and they showed up without the toy because they ran out before I completed the transaction)

Just a quick look on ebay, and the price range of the ones I could find are BIN's of US$180-250... from their retail price of US$120 just hours ago. Pretty good profit margin in just a day.
It was a shame to see a couple dealer-scalpers having several listed.

One listing I found was from a Transformers fan, just selling off the shoes... but still had a BIN price of US$124. (which would mean getting the toy for free if it sells - I would have at least given a discount for keeping half of what I bought).
I couldn't find any listings yet of just the toy, by a shoe fan who only wanted the shoes.

Yeah, the collectors/secondary market for kicks puts the TRU MP Soundwave scalpers to shame!

They are selling quite fast on ebay at $200.
I even sent a message to a dealer who had 11, asking if they'd be willing to split a lot and make the same money (from a shoe collector who doesn't want the toy, and a toy collector who doesn't want the shoes)... but no luck, as they were selling well enough for them to consider the extra effort to split a lot.
I just hope the people who are just shoe collectors understand as collectors, the collectable value of the toy and relist it, instead of throwing it away.

There's been about 50 shoes on ebay (with toy) since release, and I've only seen 5 of just the toy... selling for US$75-100 each!

Looking at the completed listings of that chinese seller of the loose figures, it's interesting to see the prices peaked during that week between the official toy being announced/revealed and its release... to now, the final auction amounts are slowly coming back down. (currently selling for around US$20-30, from the peak of $50 a week ago)

For anyone on the fence for this figure, with or without the football, the prices are coming back down on ebay again.

The loose figures without football (factory extras) are now selling for minimum bid, so you could probably get one for shipping plus a dollar if you wanted a purple Generations Megatron toy.

The boxed figure that came with the Nike shoes are now showing up frequently enough, and long enough since the more desperate collectors have snapped it up, for the prices to be about half what they were when they were first released.
Prices are now just under US$50 for the latest listings, and could go lower, as a lot are probably still just sitting in the hands of shoe fans who won't care about how cheaply they can offload the toy.

(I couldn't wait any longer, and jumped on one that was US$47 plus US$25 shipping)

Not sure if it will go that low... but it should keep dropping for the next couple months, now that the football season is over, and before the TF4 hype starts kicking in.

There were still a couple on ebay for under US$50 (http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=calvin+megatron+toy&_sop=3) when I bought mine about an hour ago.
A couple on there are even less, but are US buyers only... but one dealer has sold about 6 of them, one at a time, and each time one doesn't sell, he drops the price until it does. Two months ago he sold them at about US$70... now just under $50.

Looking at the completed listings, there are hundreds of loose Chinese Megatrons for about $5 each in just the last 2 months! No wonder there is less demand for the boxed ones.

Mine arrived today (from this seller who seems to have a few, with another one available (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nike-x-Hasbro-Megatron-CJ81-Calvin-Johnson-Transformer-Action-Figure-Toy-/321314215267?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item4acfd1d563)). I'm quite impressed with the amount of effort they put into this figure and packaging.
I'm just waiting on some BBTS preorders to come through, to have the third of the three stealth-bombers as a set.
