Apparently the source is an ebay auction from a Taiwanese seller.
This is a link to the TFW article about it (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-masterpiece-47/year-of-the-horse-optimus-prime-revealed-178840/) - but BE AWARE - each time I click on the link to the ebay auction it has a pop-up activated.

Since this person is selling boxed versions, it might be coming out sooner than the Chinese New Year... and we should be seeing galleries posted up on fansites within the week, as people rush to buy it so that they can be the first to reveal it to the world.

Ugh, would have been nicer if they'd done something a little more subtle, maybe a slightly different deco than previously but still a version of G1 - I was hoping this might be another chance to pick up MP10. But this just looks gaudy and ugly. Easy pass for me!

It'd be nicer if they actually redecoed Mach Kick for the Year of the Horse toy. I'm quite disappointed that NONE of the Lunar New Year Transformers are based on Transformers that transform into that Year's patron animal. The only one that lacks a direct animal counterpart is the Rooster/Chicken (there is no chicken Transformer). But there are Transformers for all the other animals.

The convoy looks pretty good. But the 'ghost' trailer is a let down. Looks like a mismatch of convoy & trailer. I would have liked for the trailer to have some gold colour for continuity.

At US$130 (excluding shipping) at RK, that's quite attractive price. MP-10B Black Convoy is going for the same price minus the trailer.

In their minds, Optimus Prime sells better than Mach Kick would

I would have also preferred Mach Kick as a more fitting character and I am sure any reasonable person would. However they are not thinking on what would be appropriate but what would appeal to retailers and sell the most units.

Even though this article (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/To_sell_toys) explains why comics and cartoons are often "corrupted" to help Hasbro sell certain toys... it is worth noting that this overriding element by Hasbro (and TakaraTomy) to keep their business as profitable as possible, is still about selling the most toys possible, and as noted above, a collector-focused figure is always going to be pushed aside for a retailer-focused figure... if they can't generate a compromise (a fanboy's dream that the retailers see has profit potential from the general masses - like the Masterpiece figures).

It's up to sources of collector exclusives (like Ehobby, SDCC, Hasbro HK, and FunPub) to generate these specialty, "fanboy" figures, as they only need a few thousand units, rather than 10s or 100s of thousands that the Retailers need to sell to make it worth soliciting.
Perhaps its worth bugging Ehobby, Hasbro HK, and/or FunPub (depending on your location or language skills), to investigate a properly themed "Chinese New Year" figures that utilise (surviving) animal moulds.
(and Beast Machines Skydive (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Skydive_%28BM%29) or Airraptor (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Airraptor) could represent the bird/chicken year, as they are both suppose to be dino-birds... and I had heard a rumour that Skydive was originally meant to be a pelican, which is like a giant aquatic chicken :p - but I can't prove that).

Deonasis

Now I can't decide if I want this or MP10 Nemesis PrimeYou would get Year of the Horse to complete the list of MP-10 molds or to help complete the 'Year of..' series.

You would get MP-10B because it looks rrreeeealllly good  and want different characters.

You would get one of the stock Optimus Prime versions (Takara, Hasbro or Asian exclusive) if you want a version with the trailer.

I see MP-10B becoming harder to get sooner than the Year of Horse version that isn't released yet. If previous 'Year of..'s are anything to go by some even get on store sales.

That's interesting. I only ever saw Omega in person at one Big W. From what i've seen, K Mart are still sitting on quite a few OP's, while the Target stores still have the odd UM or two. And you can count on TRU to still have stock in 2015 :p

I mean, I'm only going by what I can see on shelves - unlike you I don't have the privilege of being a store employee. But Target sold out of UM completely during the four weeks of the mid-year toy sale. K-Mart I think have sold out of POP since discounting it (I only bought mine a week or two ago). Big W, meanwhile, didn't seem to even have an Omega on display until mid-September, when I promptly picked it up and put it on layby, with none throughout the whole of the toy sale; I initially thought it had sold out. But Rocky Big W looks like it's on a mission to become the single worst place in the universe to buy toys (a title previously held by Rocky Target, which has since upped its game): they have reduced the size of their toy section despite it being nearly Christmas; they've devoted an entire endcap to TMNT which is never fully stocked; they have crates of toy cases which they take out every night, but never put on shelves; they then claim to have no room for layby.

In TRU's defence, it only got Grimlock vs Bruticus around the same time Metroplex and Soundwave were showing up, so you'd expect it to hang around longer. But with no stores anyway for miles around me, a frankly shoddy website, and their crazy prices, I'm seriously hoping neither of these end up exclusive to TRU. I'd really like that Prime, especially since I missed out on the first Australian release of the mold. It'd be a shame to get screwed out of it because of geography.

The trailer reminds me of Ghost Starscream. Maybe it "died" one day when Optimus Prime transformed to robot mode and it was quickly rolling off screen (as it always does in the G1 cartoon! ;)) and rolled off a cliff. If Roller is clear too, then he must've been in the trailer when it blew up. The remaining Spark energy that was initially dispersed between Prime's three components then amalgamated in the cab/robot, making him go Super Saiyajin^gold chrome. :p

The gold makes him look sexy...

...whether he's sexy enough to justify spending money on him is the question.

BBTS is advertising (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/content.aspx?content=66) that they have secured joint-exclusive rights to these two toys, and will release them February 1st.
It doesn't look like they are pre-selling these either as I couldn't see them on pre-order, so I'm not sure why they aren't... considering they take pre-orders on rumours just to get pre-emptive sales.

The integration of the Kanji for "horse" into the Autobot and Decepticon logos is interesting. Uh... yeah, that's about all that interests me about these toys. I wish they'd release stickers of those horse-themed logos. :o

do you guys think they'll re-release the TRU MP10 again in Aus or should i just get this to satisfy my MP10 desires?

It's interesting to note that on the brown shipping carton, it says "do not release before 1 feb" but the Asian sources are releasing them for sale.

I do not understand the appeal of these repaints at all. Prime in particular looks like horse-manure. Pure garbage.

Given the nature of their relationship, BBTS actually obeys the street dates / release dates given by Hasbro. That's why they aren't taking orders yet or giving pricing, because they are not allowed to. That's also why they sometimes lag behind in getting up pre-orders for Generations figures.

TRU in America have listed up pre-orders for a March 4th release, so if they can do it, I'm not sure why BBTS can't start taking pre-orders for their February 1st release.
Maybe they didn't get more than a couple dozen figures, and putting them up for pre-order to sell out in minutes would make that obvious.

beats me dude, I am in the same boat, technically if they release mp-10 without the trailer I buy it. I cannot be stuffed with the whole thing and just want prime standing in my display cabinet. And no, not referring to black version.

Was already thinking of custom repaint of this guy to suit my liking.

Noticed on both package boxes from RK have the statement: Distributed in Australia by Hasbro Australia Ltd..........

Is this an indication that it will eventually make its way to Australian Retail stores?

griffin

No. Its on all the US packaging by default.

Are we able to add a sticky for that question?
Every time i tried to use the FAQ, i got no matches in the fields

I found that so odd, as when a friend went to america and brought me some stuff back. I was like, did you really go to America? Why does it say Australia all over the bottom of the packaging :D

I have wanted those TFs related questions somewhere, but not sure how to make it obvious without too much work (people keep asking if items have been released even though I created 3 easy locations for new sightings, and there is the whole sightings section to search) - perhaps a separate FAQ on the banner for Transformers, next to the FAQ link for how to use the board?

A seperate FAQ next to the existing FAQ link may be the way to go.

Both are listed in the TRU systems here also
System lists $129.99 for OP :)
And from the sounds of things, finding one shouldnt be difficult ;)

^ $129? Sounds like I can wait for one and custom paint, only the gold autobot logo on the body will be more of a chellange.

Ouch! That pricing seriously undercuts what I paid (+ shipping) at RK earlier this month. Headbutts wall repeatedly. :p

Urm...this is normally the case though, I already foresee it for these two items. I felt it wasn't worth getting these asap as its the same as Metroplex.

A takara tomy reissue like the starscream, or mp-10 is different, as normal stores don't bring them in.

Take it easy.

Chimungmung now has YOTH OP. Price is a whopping US$149.90 + US$42 shipping to Australia.

drifand

^ that's the normal price on Ebay basically and in fact Ebay has raised the price for it. As this is a non critical piece, I think I will just wait for it. Very likely I am not even going to touch the trailer. lol

Wonder if they would use Grimlock mp as one of the series animals. If fits the category with the bling bling.

I got my pair today, and was surprised that the Optimus has all the bits except Roller and Spike for some reason.
That was a surprise to me. I didn't notice that they were absent in news postings.
I can understand Spike being left out, but I'm not sure why Roller was left out.

BTW, the electronic sounds for Starscream are different to the Cybertron toy. The TFCybertron toy had just one sound, while this one has 4 sound effects that play randomly with the push of the button.

That's pretty cool to hear, shows they didn't just simply repaint the figure - of which is exactly what they could've done.

Thank you for your email.
FYI

There are plans for a limited release of this product distributed to Myer stores on the 26th of February 2014.

Unfortunately, we cannot control when the stores put the item on the shelves. For Example; there may be a catalogue that is being distributed that may include this item. Therefore, the product will not go onto the shelves until the catalogue release.

You may need to contact the stores head office to find out when the product will be in store.

Regards

Can you guys dig further? I done the hard bits.
