I think it is TRU exclusive. I haven't seen any other special offers anywhere else.

GP: Is the minifig on the keychain "glued" together. Or are they exactly like a minifig just with a metal keyring? I needs me a Robin and I'm not keen on paying $35 for the Robin & Penguin playset.

Is the keyring a Toys 'R' Us exclusive? I've been wanting to pick up Lego Batman for the Wii.
Apparently you can also get it at EBGames, but I'm not 100% sure.

GP: Is the minifig on the keychain "glued" together. Or are they exactly like a minifig just with a metal keyring?
I think the head is glues to the mask, but the head can rotate on the torso. The legs are glued on, but they can move. The hands are just in the arms like a normal minifig.
I think the key chain goes through the head and to the neck part, I tried unscrewing it but I don't think it is a screw in.

Couldn't resist any longer. On clearance at Kmart and with the extra 20% off ...

Stompy

Thanks GP. But after playing more of Lego Batman videogame I'm in love with those tiny penguins. I might pick up that set now. Damn cross-marketing.

Pulse: That set might be an exclusive. Maybe at TRU or Myer. They tend to get exclusive sets more than Kmart or Target.

I noticed that the latest wave of Lego sets have been 8495 (http://www.brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=8495-1) and 8154 (http://www.brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=8154-1). Both Racers Tiny Turbo's sets. I found them to be severly overpriced for what you get. 8495 is $70!!! and 8154 is $120!!! I thought the licesned sets (Star Wars, Indy, Batman) were expensive but these bigger Racers sets are just rip-offs. I did splash out on 8495 after a 20% discount. $55 is still too expensive for what it is. Go grab the Speed Racer sets instead.

Enjoy that set Zippo. Creator vehicles are always impressive. The engineering for the converting roof is so simple yet oh so elegant and ingenious.

That's a great set, Zippo. Surprises me though, that's one of this year's sets already on clearance!?! I think it was just released 3 months ago.

Yeah, my sister wants those sets badly, Stompy. 8495 or 8154 though seem fair value given the number of pieces each have. 8154 works out to be 11c per piece which is very fair value compared to Agents or City. 8495 is 14c per piece. So yes, 8495 is overpriced relatively. But if you grab them at sale prices (15 to 20% off) then you'll get it below that.

Both are available at K-Mart this week:
8495 : $59.50 = 12c per piece
8154 : $102 = slightly less than 10c per piece

But Lego doesn't move as fast as Transformers. These sets should still be available next year so I'm in no rush to grab them for my sister. (Not to mention that she's not on holidays yet)

EDIT
I don't believe it's in stores. The 10000s all tend to be very rare in the main market and are designed for the collectors online. I've been looking at the Star Justice set (another online only set) for a while now but not very likely to show up on the mass market unless its part of a massive sale. The last ones were Lego Town Plan and Lego Eiffel Tower that were high-end Myer exclusives during the mid year sales. Neither set are around any more though so availability of such sets is short sharp.

But I'm only knew to Lego so I can't say for sure.

Pulse

I haven't seen it up here in Syd yet either (If I do stumble across one, I hope it won't be priced too expensive... *crosses fingers*)

Stompy

Sorry Pulse. I was meant to say if it does come out locally it would be exclusive to a store like TRU or Myer. I didn't mean to say it was out. Sorry for the confusion.

STL: I dunno. The peices you get with these Racer sets are very small pieces compared to other sets with mini-figs. I just feel they are really overpriced. I waited and waited for set 8147 (http://www.brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=8147-1) to drop the price from it's ridiculous $90 tag. Lowest it got was like $70. As much as I like my Lego Trucks I had to pass on it at that price.

Strange though. When it comes to TF I'd pick up at rrp without hesitation.

I find the pieces very unique b/c they're small and there are a lot more transparent pieces which are not as easy to get in bulk. Very useful for a lot of building of the unique jets u see on MocPages and feature on Brothers Brick. I grabbed that set for my sister off eBay for $50. As you said the cheapest was $70 at Big W Broadmeadows which I saw a few months ago now.

I want to use her set as parts but I'm not likely too.

As for being able to pass on Lego: I went through a small stage recently when I was disenfranchised/disinterested with TFs and totally enamored with Lego. At that point, I could hesitate for TFs to be on sale whereas Lego was more of a priority. I think I did a few cross town trips hunting certain Exo-Force units.

But I've since found my way again. :D I think the reason for hesitation w/ Lego sets is that they're purely construction at the end of the day. If you miss out, there's always another set that you can build. And in my case, I strip most of my sets down completely to make MoCs (which I hope to in the coming holidays before work starts up!)

Local Kmart got them in a few weeks ago for a promo on it, and I was very surprised to see it on clearance so quickly. Was going to wait until it was cheaper but after two were sold between my visit on Saturday and Sunday I thought I better purchase.

Saw 8495 and 8154 locally finally, and decided that I wanted 8154. But need to wait for the 20% sale.

I really REGRETTED not buying Castle Troll Warship 7048 when Kmart had it on offer for $69. It's now back to retail price of $94! Arggghh silly silly me... And I've pretty much picked up all Castle sets I can find at normal retail outlets. :( Wonder where can I find the others now at cheaper prices.

I know! I'm tempted to buy parts to build that awesome Batman Tumbler (http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/51318)

But I'd also want some villains. I was thinking the same about the little penguins, but I'd also like the Joker, and that Ice Cream truck he uses in Lego's Tumbler set.

The Joker fan is fantastic, if you can bricklink the van and the smaller fan made tumbler it'd be worth it.

I've seen other sets in TRU that look like a lot of fun (Bat tank for example) but they are just too damn pricey. The Freeze set would be great if the two vehicles werent so terrible. The only set I can see being reduced down is the Robin/ Penguin set, I've seen many of those sets in every Target and Kmart I have been too.

Need a Clayface minifig, he is easily my favourite villain in Lego Batman.

From the looks of the recent pics from the new Power Miners line, the rock monster figs would make a good match for Clayface

Wow. This might push me to finally go on ebay! I am a total ebay newbie and I'm afraid I might go crazy once in.

GP: I wasn't too keen ont he Tumbler at all. The Joker van + Joker mini-fig is nice but I will stick with my Batmobile + Two-Face van. I got lucky with the Batmobile. There was one lonesome box of it at Big W.

In the Lego Batman game I noticed a few other sets crop up. The police vehicles were from last years sets and the Penguin Submarine is actually the totally awesome Aqua Raiders Submarine redone in black.

I want a Catwoman minifig. Off to bricklink I guess!

Mel: That Troll Warship will go down in price again. It's shelfwarming everywhere I go. Also it's just one huge boat mould. The build of it won't be very interesting. Much like the Coast Guard ship that STL got for his sister. Just full of big pieces and hardly any construction at all. I hope you find last years Castle Sets. Especially the Skeleton Carriage. That's awesome!

I thought it was done in the same manner as the old Pirate ships. So like the ends and middle were separate parts so they make the boats longer/shorter set to set.

The tanker mould is just one big piece, but that is so it can float in water.
In one of the older city series they had a whole big thing about boats that could actually float.
I got one of the old hulls somewhere around here. I found that, although it could float, one small wave to the side of the vessel would capsize it almost immediately

Wow that's good if the price really drops again, I'm trying to complete the Castle Sets. Thanks to Pulse, he's giving me the Skeleton Carriage and Knights Defence sets 7090 and 7091. :D Then I also have the Dwarves set coming from ebay in the next week or so. Got that for AUD$59.50 shipped, which was a pretty good buy. :)

Anyway I picked this up before the Kmart sale ended. Couldn't find anymore other sets which I wanted for the moment. Also good in a way, can ease the poor wallet for a bit.

Has anyone seen either King's Castle Seige 7094 or Skeleton Ship Attack 7029 in Sydney anywhere?? I only need these 2 to complete the current Lego lineup of Castle (at least until the 09 sets are released). Any help would be mucho appreciated. :)

Skeleton Ship Attack is TRU exclusive.

Did you price-match those, Mel? You can get the extra 20% off if you're clever about it. ;)

Price-match still? Where with what?

Lego Castle Dwarves. They're at K-Mart for 20% off normal price of $65.

Ah well, I got mine at $59.60 shipped, so I'm not complaining. The Kmart I frequent doesn't have them, so I guess that offsets the driving around to look for them. :p

AND Fungal! Gosh those Castle sets (which I'm slowly acquiring as well) looks awesome!

All incredibly cheap. :D

- $20 for 7704 Sonic Phantom but very very unhappy b/c of poor packaging which heavily dented the back of the box.
- $16.88 for 7707 Striking Venom. From a Target that decided to finally clear them out. The box was actually already opened but fortunately all the bags appeared to be there. I actually thought I lost this a week or so ago. I remember telling Golden Phoenix about it and then kept forgetting to look for it till today. :o
- $14.40 for 8159 Racer X from K-Mart on clearance too. Great price! :D Pity I couldn't find one of those Grand Prix sets but given the abundance of them on Target's shelves, I guess it'll be a matter of time before they become the next shelfwarmers.

jacksplatt11

Nice, my Sonic Phantom came today, got mine for $16 including postage, box was squashed and dented in everywhere, but I chuck them out anyway so doesn't bother me. It's a pretty awesome set.

Were there any more 7707s left at the Target? $17 is pretty awesome for that

Nah, that was the last one. It'd been sitting at Greensy for a few months now. (ever since Fungal helped Jaydisc and me get Golden Guardian and Bridgewalker). I'd passed on it b/c it seemed pretty average and not really a mech but I couldn't resist at that price point either.

Great prices on those sets. Especially the Speed Racer sets. Blame the movie flopping at the cinemas for that eventhough it was actually a pretty good film. Have never actually gotten the Sonic Phantom for the fact that it's just a flying vehicle. Although it is a very large craft. The box deceptively makes it look small.

Letter states they are sorry, and how hard they work to get it correct.

Awesome find Fungal. I'll assume you got it outside of retail? Hard to find that set.

And Digger. I thought that set was a bit overpriced for what you really get. I know there's a lot of peices for the base/stand but they always charge like 25% more for the Star Wars license.

From the past couple of years it appears taht Lego waves come in 3 distinct waves. Early on the year have a few sets from the last wave of the previous year mixed with a lot of new sets for the year. Then more new sets mid year, followed by a few more that overlaps to the following year.

I'm pretty sure Agents will see at least one more wave. Not sure they will have more after that to be honest. I was really surprised Exo-Force went for 3 years.

I'm pretty sure I read from either brickset or some other Lego site that there would be new Agents sets - there was even a listing for the 2009 sets with set numbers and descriptions. Just a bit disappointed that we have to wait till the later part of the year to score new stuff, particularly Pirates and the new space line. And yeah, I scored the Castle set from Legoshop.com - cheapest I could find MISB with shipping and since I bought other sets from them as well, shipping wasn't too bad.

That's strange because the Pirate sets have appeared in stores in America. They should be at the Start with the new Star Wars, Bionicle, Farm and Power Miners (or what ever they are called)
Agents and Space are understandable though because we haven't even seen pictures yet (right?)

Stompy

I was aware of new Agents sets listed. But I think the last wave of the line was so recent that it will be silly to release the new wave this early.

I haven't seen a single picture of new Agents sets or Space. I'm excited by what they are going to do with those two lines actually.

I wonder if there will be Castle sets this year? Or will the Pirate set be the "period" line for the year?

As told to the guys during the BBQ meet, Lego sent me my replacement part and a complimentary keychain:
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r70/milassilem/ToysAndGames/Lego_keychain.jpg

It's really nice of them and they have such good service.

Anyway boys I have kinda halted on Lego for the time being as my Lego designated shelves are already full. Not that I really care since my TFs are overflowing my shelves anyway. :p But just that I like to display my Lego nicely with the figures in action and there's no more space for that.

Also I guess I haven't really got any sets on my wants-list except the Castle Skeleton Carriage set. :)

The skeleton carriage is still available in Sydney TRUs and Myers for $29.99 if you wanted to trek up to Sydney to grab it. :p Otherwise I suppose I could get off my ass and make a trip for you, as long as you are willing to pay postage to have it shipped down.

Got it from an Australian seller via Bricklink for cheaper than the Legoshop shipped. This is an awesome set - goes great with the Kings Castle Seige set (seen in background). Nice to have some normal castle folk and peasants inhabiting the landscape and the buildings themselves are very well designed and have a modular design. Two thumbs up! :)

Very nice fungal! Sigh I wish theyd make such simple but cottagey like home sets for the City series. My town is seriously lacking in houses, its all services ( town hall, moviehouse, fire stn, hospital) Ive got 2 of those creator houses sets but it doesnt jive size wise when constructed also the creator sets make it so that its closed at the back, while all the other city sets are "open" at the back for play so theres a real discrepancy there. Still aiming to put on layby at least 3 of those yellow creator houses thoug. I need to make random Tall buildings to make it more city like. for now its just a well serviced "town" :p Wonder how those medieval houses would look like within the city? hmmmm;)

I see your Cafe Corner and Raise you a Green Grocer :p
http://www.majhost.com/gallery/jimmey-11/newstuff/dsc00117.jpg
Got them a couple of days ago. Off Layby, and because I spent a certain amount I got that little boat free with them.

They are really really nice sets. The Cafe Corner has some great detailing, but its nothing compaired to the Green Grocer
The Cafe Corner is pretty much a facade. You have to decorate it yourself. The rooms are there, as a the stairs, but I'll have to fine time to play around with some furniture designs
The Green Grocer comes with some. You get a grandfather clock, a heater, fireplace, some flat parts for a rug and the back balcony has chairs, table, umbrella, hanging flowers and a bbq. The ground floor shop is completely decked out though. Couple of containers for carrots, croissants and bananas, as well as a big fridge with drinks.
The Hotel sign is entirely built. No stickers or printed parts. its done using white and transparent red bricks. really cool. And they have written "Cafe" into the footpath under the tables and chairs. Pain in the ass to build, and I didn't notice until I had finished it. very nice touch.
My only other gripe is that all the minifigs use the same generic smiley face <_<
Would have liked some variety, especially for the female minifigs. They did do a female smiley face with lipstick and curled eyelashes. I don't know why they didn't use them here...

I've been building them both in my spare time in between going out and working.

oh, and the bit about the entrance of the cafe, with the white skis. Best use ever

Aqua Raiders are awesome sets! That submarine is utterly gorgeous and made an appearance , although repainted, in the Lego Batman game as the Penguin's Submarine.

Aqua Raiders was designed by the same team as the Agents team.

Thanks for the thought Fungal. :) The set was just a little too pricey when it released at $60 for it's size, now it's totally slipped my mind and I wasn't even aware it was on sale. I might hunt the TRU's around here and see if there's a the lone straggler hanging about behind some newer sets. You didn't manage to find the Aqua Raiders base or the smaller sets?

Found these at a TRU way far from my usual hunting grounds. The base had a damaged box so it was reduced to $89 from $119. Just need the Angler Ambush set (on its way) and I'm done with Aqua Raiders II. :) Incidently, new 2009 Indy sets have been sighted at a Kmart which incidently has 15% off Legos.

Great goings with the acquisition. I've ran out of room and am dismantling most of my Lego. Got a few hundred zip lock bags and storage bins and started. Sore fingers prevent me from doing too much at a time. I've had to make room (Thanks to TF figs) and they were gathering way too much dust. Am only leaving my Agents and Mars Mission sets on display. Oh, and the Technics as well, because bugger if I'm going to try an dismantle them.

The indy sets haven't really grabbed me bar the great cars and jeeps. Will check out and see what sets are out.

I'd say 3/4 of my Legos are in ziplock bags. I go through phases and display whatever happens to be the "in" theme at the time. Like when the new Mars Mission sets came out, my shelf was all Mars Mission. The Agents came out and that became the display item of choice. Now, in order to show a bit more variety, I tend to mix it up so I have say 2 of the best sets from each theme. At the moment though, I've broken that rule and Aqua Raiders and Castle is hogging the limelight. If I had a spare room, I'd set up the ultimate diorama - all my classic space sets mingling with each other *homer drool*.

I indulged in some Lego this weekend:

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk269/StompBrother/Lego/LegoBionicles-20091.jpg

L-R: 8990 - Fero & Skirmix, 8979 - Malum, 8991 - Tuma
Front: 8977 - Zesk

I'm not the biggest Bionicles fan due to huge disappointments with the one or two I bought the past few years but these hand-picked one's were great.

Zesk is a nice little 4 legger. I love my 4 leggers and this little dude is a lot bigger than I imgained and a top notch looking small set.

Malum is your typical standard Bionicle. Usually the regular Bionicles is pretty sparse in terms of build and armor layers, but this one caught my eye due the heavy armor and large claws, rather than wasting pieces on huge weapons over a skeletally bare robot frame.

Fero & Skirmix is a nice little combo. The picture is a little misleading as the two big ones on the ends are the size of a Leader class transformer figure. Fero (the black rider) is your standard small set bot. Skirmix is a nice Raptor like creature with double jointed leg links and double jointed neck. Also comes with faux suspension for that extra mechanical working look. A great build and what I expect out of Bionicles.

Tuma on the other hand is the best Bionicle set I've ever laid my hands on. The build was fun and interesting, with plenty of layers and links as opposed to the basic limb builds of the regular sets. He has the faux suspensions on the legs and double jointed arm and leg links. He is very tall and looks the part with his black and fluro green scheme. Also nice to see that Bionicle figure now have proper hands.

Bionicle parts are their own thing. Using Technic style pegs and ball joints galore. Cheaper, softer plastic used for the bulky parts (Hasbro grey!!!!) and a build system that is quite difficult to get into. With saying that, there has been some phenomenal MOC pieces out there that baffles my brain, because I for one cannot make a fancy looking one even if I tried.

Plus any MOC's out there just makes me sad. Shows just how crap my creativity is.

I agree with you there. I once tried, and gave up, to make a Moc with both System ("normal" Lego) and the Bionicle. I managed to get some legs donw, but failed once I got the torso.

Hey guys, do you know if there's still any 'Town Plan' sets hanging around in Myers anywhere? They never got them in at Hobart or Launceston Myer (surprise surprise), but at least Myer has the nice $8.50 postage option.

Other than that, I'll have to get it through the Lego shop (for $50 more plus $40-odd postage and a 3 week wait).

I guess the smart thing to do there would be to purchase a few items at the same time to keep postage down...the freight train still needs a passenger train and station to keep it company, and probably wouldn't hurt to pick up one of those minifig packs to keep the city from looking so deserted.

I swear to god there's one cop, firefighter and Batman for every civilian. Taxes in Legoland must be astronomical.

Was bank deposit... yet somehow it was mandatory for me. A set under 500g cost $6.50 Regular. Also, last time I checked Registered post only cost $2.75, not $3.00. Perhaps because I won the item for under retail rrp uping the the price of postage was justified.

Anyhow, I'm derailing the thread. *tsk tsk* I did aquire set 7739 Coast Guard Boat and Tower for $75.00 today. Thank you Myer. I just counted how many sets I bought in March... 26. Ouch. Will take a picture tomorrow too show you all my not so slow slide into poverty. :D

Racers fold out sets are $25 at most outlets but $19 regular price at Big W. With Myers 25% off sale, I got them just under $19 at $18.75. I've also found that the Agents Truck is on clearance at the Big Ws around my area at $89.88.

Nabbed the two pirates impulse sets from Big W, and now really really want the pirates sets from Target when they are released.

The Camper is a very similar item to the Joker ice cream van that was released with the newer Batmobile "Tumbler" last year, same colours and general design, just a bit larger.

My local Target had one smaller Spongebob set, the two larger Pirate sets (The ship has a wench!) but not all the new stuff, and already looks far too overpacked...

Insane sales day

From Myers I picked up
8017 Vaders Tie Fighter for $32.50
7048 Troll Warship for $65

Due to the 15% discount for this weekend only, on top of 20% off Lego in their catalogue.

From TRU I got 7041 Troll Battle Wheel for $32.50
Which is weird because the tagged price is $60 and I only used a 20% off coupon from the newsletter. I didn't get to try this with TFs because the girl took the coupon off me.

Okay, my July acquisitions:

Space Police 3:

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q305/Redboost77/Acquisitions/acquisitions174.jpg

Easily the best theme released this year. I had the highest expectations for this theme and they were all met. Great fun to build, great playability and the alien minifigs are the best in a long time. Cant wait to grab the Squidman's Pitstop and Max Security Transport when they get released.

Pirates II:

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q305/Redboost77/Acquisitions/acquisitions175.jpg

Was slightly disappointed by this theme. The ship is easily the highlight being the most enjoyable to build but the rest of the sets I didn't really find anything special about them. I don't dislike the theme, just didn't enjoy building it as much as other themes such as SP3, Agents and Power Miners.

Power Miners Rock Wrecker:

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q305/Redboost77/Acquisitions/acquisitions176.jpg

Probably the most disappointing vehicle in the PM line thus far but still has its charm. Don't pay full price as the set has nowhere near the value/playability of the awesome Thunder Driller which is the same price but for its sale price of $35, its passable.

Still waiting on Agents 2.0 and Castle, both of which have a lot to live up to compared to SP3. :)

PS. Is it just my local store or has everyone noticed that Pirates and Spongebob sets are completely sold out at Target? Glad I grabbed my sets yesterday before the official start of the sale. :D

Pirate sets were easy to find at most Melbourne Target's. I was dissapointed to see Market Village totally pillaged by the time I got there at 1pm. :(

I agree that Space Police were great sets. Although I was disappointed with the Space Truck, in particular the bare underside of the container. All other sets were amazing though.

Pirates never interested me. even when I tried to like them.

That Power Miner set was creative in the use of just wheels and friction to have 5 moving grinders without the use of gears. Also love the fact that there's a coffee machine inside the cab.

TheDirtyDigger

Well I got one Medievel Market Village but I think I need two to make a decent sized set. One as per instructions and one custom tweaked a bit to provide the necessary differences.
Really can't wait till I'm able to make this up.

I was going to get it but have decided against the Medieval market to focus on the Premium sets (Firestation, Market Street, Cafe Corner etc or Taj mahal/Eiffel Tower) . Only reason I might change is if they give us something like a scene that premium sets which display so well. It's a bit of a regret cos I was looking forward to it a lot but i just don't have the space for it.

I built my Medieval Market Village last night and despite having no trolls or skeletons in it whatsoever :p it is an AWESOME set.

Unfortunately now that it is built I am very convinced that I have a missing piece. I've never had a missing piece from a lego set ever, what is the best course of action? I don't feel like dismantling the whole damned thing and returning it to Target on the account of a single 1x1 brick and its not the kind of piece that can be left out without looking glaringly bad. Well... thats not entirely true, I could do the i-pod shuffle.

This thread is collecting dust.

Recent Lego Acquisitions: The two truck Creator sets: 6752 Fire Truck & 6753 Carrier Truck. Probably the best sets I've built since the Agents Truck and the Technic Tow Truck. The build and detail is just amazing. Their sizes are mindblowing too, the tyres are as tall as a minifig. Have added in a few TF figures in there (RotF Jolt, Sideswipe & Bumblebee. Also Universe Inferno) for size comparison.

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk269/StompBrother/Lego6752-withvoyInferno.jpg

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk269/StompBrother/Lego6752-ladderstretchedwithInferno.jpg

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk269/StompBrother/Lego6752-interior.jpg

4 doors open, roof detaches easily so you can have a gander at the interior complete with seating for 4. No hand of god steering or steering at all for the tyres. The ladder stretches out, spins around a full 360 and can angle upwards at 90 degrees. The model engineering is done well as I couldn't believe the parts that came in the box could make this. The back is mainly panels to save a lot of pieces. One qualm is that the front bumper is only secured by 4 studs and could have done with some more towards the bottom as it tends to come off when nidged or touched with a bit of force.

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk269/StompBrother/Lego6753-interior.jpg

Amazing set. The size of this puts even Masterpiece Prime's truck cab to shame. The cab is truly a work of art with the perfect lines and detail to sculpt the real life counterpart its imitating. The doors swing open, there are two chairs and steering wheel, gear shift, indicator bar and even a coffee maker. The roof detaches easily for an easier look at the interior. The trailer is a little simple and bare but it does it's job and has a little stand for when it comes off the cab, and 3 ramps that move to let the cars off. The two cars are gorgeous (red and white) and the yellow and green one are older sets that fit perfectly with this set. Deluxe TF fit too, perhaps a tad smaller.
