Don't get the Hasbro Transmetal Megatron. It suffers from Gold Plastic Syndrome something fierce, although in this instance it's the dark brown plastic that's affected. After a few years it crumbles. Spend the extra cash and get a Takara Metals Megatron, which used a different plastic.

Good luck with the list (:

You missed Verno's two sales not too long ago. He had all those figures and more selling at reasonable prices.

Here is a link to his website. I have bought many of my large BW toys from him:

Cheers for the free plug Kup :p but I'm actually out of Stock. Only thing I've got left is a MOSC Scarem that didn't sell (I wonder why :p)

If only you'd come to me a few months ago Kuzzy, I had.... yes all of those for sale.

I'll need to update the site, or take it down.

I have a Rapticon (picked it up when I was in Canada a few years back - never reached our shores). It's a nice repaint, I prefer the colours to those of TMII Dinobot, but as Gok alluded to, totally different character.

I can second that. I still have my first TM Megatron with me unwanted (only good for parts) because its whole chest area broke leaving it with only one arm and no practical way of re-attaching it.
If Takara used a different plastic that makes it more stable, I'd recommend it as well. I'd be guessing it looks exactly the same, just different packaging (that you probably won't be able to read).

I have a TM Megatron, not very good with the Beats Wars figs though, since I have only recently started collecting that line. Anyways here is a pic, if your interested let me know.

And I have this Armada version which is the same fig just repainted. Think his name was Predacon for this series.

Predacon is an entirely different character from Megatron. He's also retooled with dead mini-con ports.

I also strongly recommend getting the Japanese version of Transmetal Megatron as it is made of much better quality plastic that isn't as brittle as the Hasbro version.

Predacon is pretty hard to find. Just as much as the Armada Dinobots purely b/c they weren't in high demand when they weren't released in great numbers either.

If you're talking about the Grimlock and Swoop that merge into Mega Dinobot, then yes, that's from Energon. Those are really craptacular toys too. :/

Nope. But Hasbro has a penchant for using really bright colours. :p

Transformers has never been extinct. It's always been in production since 1984. :)

It nearly became extinct thanks to G2...

GoktimusPrime
5th August 2008, 04:53 PM
I dunno... I think the closest Transformers ever came to extinction was in 1991, 1992 and early 1993 - the tail end of G1. While it's true that G2 was never a raging success I don't think that it was as bad as those final years of G1. IMO Hasbro quickly realised that G2 wasn't working and rightfully canned the line after 3 years giving us Beast Wars, which was a smashing success and revitalised the franchise. Beast Wars = Transformers Renaissance. :)

dirge
5th August 2008, 07:07 PM
Actually, Pulse is right - G2 nearly did signal the death (again) of the line. Hasbro actually out and out cancelled the Transformers line when they wound up G2. Kenner - then a proper subsiduary of Hasbro - actually went out on a limb with Beast Wars.

Predacon was fairly easy to find, although not because he was released here in huge numbers. Rather, he was a slow seller. The supply was limited, and now that it's dried up, he's hard to find. Actionmasters are similar - low demand but also low supply.

Being that Hasbro owns the rights to another line that has "died" (ie. Gobots), if Hasbro were to release "Gobots/Rocklords Classics" - I wonder if they would actually sell...

I dunno, if they are cheap I would probably just buy a couple for the sake of novelty and the stupid @ss concept is pretty amusing.

However most of those rocks do not actually look like rocks....I guess they have an appropriately trademarked name if they wanted to bring back Rocklords...

kuzzy: Transmetals appeared in Beast Wars in the 1998 line and appeared in the show in Season 2. Transmetals are Transformers which have robotic looking beast modes and bestial looking robot modes (except for Optimal Optimus and Ravage who are wholly mechanical in all modes). They also have intermediate vehicle modes (an intermediate mode is a kind of "half mode" - it's not a full proper alt mode, they're basically modifications of their beast mdoes). In Hasbro markets Transmetals were very popular but in Japan (where the Transmetal/Fuzor line was known as "Beast Wars Metals" it didn't enjoy the same success as the Japanese fandom criticised the Metals line as being unconvincing robots in disguise. The Japanese BW line reverted back to more realistic looking beast modes in the 1999 line (aka "Beast Wars Neo").

Transmetals TV commercial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tm3LqmsxogY)
Optimus Primal/Optimal Optimus in action (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yp_eX4Zc6WQ)

As far as the fiction is concerned, Transmetals were created when some Beast Wars Transformers were 'mutated' by the quantum surge that was resultant from the destruction of the Vok's lunar planet-buster (except for Optimal Optimus & Ravage). Transmetals and Fuzors are also invisible to detection from Vok technology (probably because they were irradiated by Vok energies rendering them "friendly" to their machines).

Getting back to the toys, there have been some different variations of Transmetals. There are numerous Fox! Kids and Wal-Mart exclusive variants, which are really just repaints. Most of them aren't terribly interesting unless you're a collector of variants. The only one of those variants I'd recommend would be Wal-Mart Transmetal Rattrap, which is meant to be Transmetal Packrat, but Hasbro doesn't have the rights to the name Packrat so they called it Rattrap instead. But official canon has retconned that figure as Transmetal Packrat.
http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/transformers/images/thumb/0/0c/TMPackrat-02.jpg/150px-TMPackrat-02.jpgTransmetal Packrat from "The Wreckers"

The Japanese Metals versions also feature more show-like colours and most noticeably in Megatron, better quality plastic. Transmetal Megatron notoriously suffers from poor quality plastic which makes the toy easily susceptible to breakage. The Japanese version has much better quality plastic and also nicer colours too.

Ravage is only available through the Japanese Metals line (where he's known by his Japanese name "Jaguar").

I personally really like Transmetals and highly recommend them to collectors. If you're interested in completing all toys who appear in the Canadian TV show then here's the list:

wow! that was alot of information, but i grew up with the series so i knew most of it, in fact i do know about optimalization which megatron and optimus did, optimus did it for time and space itsself after megs blew apart optimus head, and megs did it for the greater of himself, he unfortunately didnt give back the spark until the destruction of the nemisis and in a deleted scene optimus pulls oout the spark and puts it back into g1 megatron. optimus give back the autbot matrix or leadership or optimus primes spark after the axalon was lost and rhinox fixed primes head. actually come to think of it the transmetals were triplechangers.

oh and i prefered the transmetal for many reasons
