It has a Japanese Z-Knights feel to it.

I'm surprised this doesn't have a Thrilling 30 # of 30 stamp on it....

Image source is an Amazon listing, which has now been taken down (maybe it was put up too early).
Details of the listing (from here (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-toys-products-30/transformers-4-age-of-extinction-first-edition-optimus-prime-179124/)) are - released Febuary 4th from Amazon, for US$60.
It is said to be "exclusive" to Amazon (in America), so even if that is true, it might be released in other countries as well. There is a Japanese Movie figure coming out next month as well, so this is likely to be it too.
(this is like the preview figures of the first wave - an advance figure to get the hype momentum rolling among fans, retailers and maybe even the media)

I'd be surprised if it doesn't. (they don't usually have the stamp on the front)
Hmmm... it looks like the blue background art has a dinosaur theme. ;)

The box is beautiful, something tells me though that this "First edition Prime" isn't going to be quite as sought after as the last First Edition Prime.

Is this the first time ever of a Hasbro package having an 8+ age rating?

Shame the base figure looks pretty meh. Now it is just pretty meh.

I don't understand why people are saying this figure is meh. To me it looks like a pretty solid reinterpretation of movie Prime. It has decent articulation and sculpting, and I like the fact that the accessories are a sword and shield rather than just moar gunz!!!!!11!! Is it just the backpack people can't stand, or is there some other element of the toy that's turning everyone off that I'm missing?

Unless I'm viewing the toy wrong. To me he just looks like he has a kibble capsule and everything just folds on top of him to turn him into a truck. Very flat looking character, either way can't judge it properly till I see one in person.

That's a very astute observation, a very high age rating for a Transformers toy. maybe the result of feedback from the ROTF line.

The pictures I've seen of it out of packet look very much like the silouette is a rectangle, there is a lot of backpack, and it's not just on the back it goes right down the legs and the arms are restricted by it as well. It looks to me like there will be kibble in the way of everything.
I guess I'm getting used to more recent transformers designs where the robot is streamlined and articulate. Where the silouette is recognizable.

If the regular version really does have metallic paint like the prototype we saw last year I think that is a better deco. This guy is not like Battle Mode Prime or Buster Prime with a Premium paint job and chrome, he's just chromed and a budget paint job.
EDIT: I just realised that there are two Leader Class Optimus toys. This First Edition and this one (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/official-images-of-transformers-age-of-extinction-optimus-prime/28556/) that was revealed last year. I'm getting the one they showed off last year.

There are so many different Movie 4 Prime pics kicking around, I'll defer judgment till I see the real thing. I saw the "Smash and change" movie Prime a week ago and figured that was the future of Hasbro Transformers, but this guy look like Hasbro actually spent a little time on him. I'm kinda over movie Prime toys as is, and feel they peaked during the ROTF era, but this guy does not appear to be horrible. probably wont be buying him though.
But yeah great packaging

I am going to be very selective with what I buy from AoE toyline.
I will try to get the main movie cast (if they release them Dino anyone?)
I won't be collecting any of the 'simplified' figures.

I emailed ToysRUs Australia on Friday to see if they have this specific toy in their system (to see if it was a general release item or an exclusive to the), and this was their reply on Saturday...
Thank you for your email.
At the moment our system doesn't indicate we will be stocking the range of products from the Transformers 4 Movie. We may decide to stock it later in the year, however at this stage we unsure of if or when, or any specific details.
That's really a bit of a non-answer, as I know that they would be ordering their TF4 stuff at Toyfair in March, so the "main line" won't be in their system yet. But since it is unlikely that the one-off First Edition figure is classed as part of the "main line", their answer may or may not also refer to the First Edition Optimus being in their system at all.
I also emailed Hasbro, to see if it is coming here, and if it could be exclusive to a specific store.... but no reply yet.

The main line should be in their systems. The Customer Service rep which i spoke in regards to the YoTH OP listed quite a few movie items & prices. He did say TFM4, which is why its stuck with me

Movies Figs is something i have an issue with, either to complex or in this case to simple. I get why they did it, i have gripes with DOtM Sentinel Prime leader class that i have never been able to transform with out breaking a new piece off..
But this for $60.. its taking it a bit far i think...

Size comparison images have surfaced (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-toys-products-30/transformers-4-age-of-extinction-first-edition-optimus-prime-size-comparison-179180/) of this figure next to MP10 and a TF2 Leader Optimus... and the First Edition figure towers over both, which would seem to justify the US$60 price tag in America (taking into account the expense of shiny bits too).
With the recent Beast Hunters Voyagers being larger than previous Voyagers, perhaps this is a "Leader class" figure in the new simplified era of Transformers?

The packaging says that's features are...
- Sword of Judgement (???)
- Sentinel Shield (I guess Optimus pillaged Sentinels parts like he did with Jetfire :p)
- over 10 inches tall (about 25 cm - looks to be just a little bigger than Leader Class Sentinel Prime)

As I had guessed in the Superbowl topic, this figure has NOW been put up for sale on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GJO41XI/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00GJO41XI&linkCode=as2&tag=transformers-20), for US$60. It says free shipping, but is only for America, as it cost me AU$18.50.
The $60 converted to AU$71.28 for me.

$60 seems like a steep US price for that toy - I think that's the same pricepoint as Beast Fire Predaking and Beast Hunter Optimus Prime.

It's about the same size, and has shiney bits and fancy box.... so probably makes it worth it.
It's been found in retail in Singapore today as well... so this may have been intended as a global release, but only two countries joined the party. :p

Should come as a surprise to no one that he's right up there with Big Convoy in terms of shellforming.
Truck looks awesome but it's not like that's some great achievement considering how it transforms!

Not surprising, considering that they would have had to fast-track the design and engineering of this figure to get it out to stores 3 months before the main-line (working from concept drawings that would only be about a year old)... the transformation and sculpting is probably a bit off as well.

I wonder how well received the movies would be if the CGI actually transformed just like this toy instead of the many thousands of moving parts!

This is one of the best boxes I've ever seen!, but yea just saw a small glimpse of Optibotimus's review and the transformation is super simple. The whole outside of the truck is in the backpack and behind the legs, and the whole torso is just hidden in the cab and has no transformation, you just have to flip out the arms.

After seeing the transformation I would love to sit some kids down and get them to give their review of this mold vs the upcoming AOE Generations Leader Optimus and find out if the simplified toy is what they really want.

Hmmm... interesting simplified transformation.
Will appeal well to kids and parents but i'm a little perplexed as they're also offering that very VERY simplified version that "transforms" when you place the truck mode standing up.
Thus would appreciate a little more complexity with the transformation for a leader class, especially on the backpack as it's a little too boxy for a Bayformer and doesn't match the robot at the front IMO.

Anyone know if you can knock off a bunch of the backpack? So he can look more like he does in the trailer etc? Kind of like what I did with teapot prime (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showpost.php?p=394434&postcount=27) to make him look a lot nicer (i think) on my shelf.

Amazon shipping has done it once again. Just 7 days since I placed the order, it arrived today.
Some pics in a couple minutes, for anyone who hasn't gone to the other links yet.
For the question above - no chance of removing the backpack, as the main grey part is a single moulded piece that forms the waist of the robot mode.

Instructions
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/b742.jpg
Colour instructions are nice, a bit like early Gen1 instructions. Don't be fooled by the labelling of it as a shell-former, as the transformation isn't a
complete walk in the park. It is NOT a "challenge" type Transformer, but there is still a little bit of creative engineering involved in the design. A
commendable effort when you consider that the back when the designers started on this figure, they would only have had photos of the truck mode
and some early concept CGI for the robot mode (as such, most of the truck shell folds up onto the back and only a little is incorporated into the robot body - the legs).
The shiny parts and rubber wheels, plus the big bulky toy in both modes and decent articulation, makes for something I consider is above average
for the fairly high price point... but is likely to be below average for those who don't collect Transformers toys to play with (who value more the
engineering and displayability of the figures).
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/b743.jpg
The mid-section, showing how the backpack is part of the robot waist, so isn't removable. You can also see from this photo, that only the lower legs
of the robot mode forms any part of the truck (shell).
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/b744.jpg
In vehicle mode, with Ultimate BH Optimus, DLX FOC Optimus, Green BAPE Optimus, MP YOTH Optimus, Rescue Bots Trailer Optimus.
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/b745.jpg
Instead of rub-signs to prove authenticity, or a holographic sticker... we get a logo on the packaging, which anyone could put on KOs quite easily.
Also, this notes a Transformers App - is that something that's been out already, or something new?

Nice little review but one question from me, what's the plastic feel like that makes the truck itself. Is it thin and flimsy, or not to bad for what it is?
It's very solid. The toy itself is very hollow, so feels VERY light for its (truck) size, but the panels do their job on making the truck mode very solid and rigid when all the parts are completely locked in.
