3rd party companies are really churning out the minibots huh? They're all quite well designed and very true to their G1 characters.

Only problem though is that HasTak are doing their own classics/generations style take on these characters too are they not?

3rd parties be hard pressed to sell their versions for less than $10 though. Hmm tough one!

I think they'd be hard pressed going up against legends-class Swerve too.
Decisions will boil down to which alt mode and price is preferred.

Damn, I like he altmodes:o... especially that add on tray and glass on Trashtalk, grrrrr. They're different from each other in altmode that it looks more than a simple recolour but a retool of the same mold. I also like that it looks like a cybertronian car mode not earth vehicle style. I already have Gen Swerve and it is very nice. However, this version is nice as well and can turn his head side to side. The official Swerve can't. Cog Wheels look interesting as well with that battle mask alternate face feature.

I wonder how much the set would cost? Oh they're selling the First gun separate ei? Hmmmmm Good thing Id like to get one of that but for my official figure. :D:D I think I might end up getting these two. I wonder how big are they as well?

Based on previous figures/add on kits that I've bought which are from Maketoys, this would definitely have good quality, unfortunately their price tag is a bit steep.... looking at Giant. But, their figures are beautiful hehehe.

I don't normally buy 3rd party stuff, and I'm already planning on getting the Generations Swerve as soon as I can find one (everywhere seems to either not have him listed or they're sold out)
but I simply MUST have that My First Blaster, I just hope it isn't too ridiculously large on a legends swerve.
there's no price listed but could anyone hazard a guess at how much the MFB will cost?

Shapeways has a MFB for sale (http://www.shapeways.com/model/1180683/my-first-blaster.html). I was thinking of getting one (maybe a group buy to save on postage) and asking Lancelot to paint it up for me :)

It looks hideous and amateurish though, and expensive for what it is - it might be better to wait for the Maketoys one.

+1. I'll wait and see what the final product and how much Maketoys' is as well. At least I don't have to color that and it won't have that grainy feel to it.

Even with Hasbro releasing their own proper version, and me already having the Igear version, and the expected high price tag, these still look bloody awesome to me. :)

Yup, i was chatting with Hursti on twitter about a week ago when these pics came out - this is a must. And the blaster.

Apparently some group called Action Robo has these in stock, the set of both mini-bots and the M.F.B
Has anyone dealt with them in the past? Do they ship here? Is it worth trying to just get an M.F.B from them or should I wait for someone to do a group order or something, I prefer hasbro's swerve but I really want to get him an M.F.B (then the next step is actually getting the Hasbro legends swerve once I can find one for a good price.)

Yes a HK store got these in stock but are now sold out. Prices in USD (from memory) are something like...

MFB = $10
Swerve + Gears = $50
Swerve + Gears + MFB = $58

Apparently chingamungabunga will have orders up sometime next week? If any other Perth folks want a set let us COMBINE OUR POWERS and save on shipping.

Yeah just checked out Action Robo & they were all gone in a matter of hours!

Hopefully Tony gets a reasonable amount of stock. :o

Okay so i'd never heard of Action Robo until I saw TJ Duckett's review of the figures on tformers.com - which made me drool...

And as Hursti said, damn, out of stock so quickly!!!

I'll be on a daily search on chimungmung, etc now!

A good idea as this pair seem to be, typically for MakeToys, hotly in-demand - Keep you're eyes peeled lads & lasses. ;)

Up for preorder at BBTS.

bassbot
21st February 2014, 10:44 AM
yeah just saw that.
The MFB is $12.99 and the two-set toys are $69.99

I'm gonna give it a day or two to wait and see what Chimungmung have them for. The combo set from action robo was a great price, wonder if they'll get more in?

bassbot
24th February 2014, 11:48 AM
TFsource.com and Kapowtoys.co.uk have it preorder. TFsource is same as BBTS and kapowtoys is quite expensive with the currency difference...

still waiting on Chimungmung!

llamatron
24th February 2014, 02:33 PM
There is a rumour floating around that Chimungmung will not be getting these. Supposedly the big guys - BBTS / TFSource have taken up all of it. Kapow has exclusive rights for UK distribution of Maketoys stuff.

I (unhappily) put in a pre-order at BBTS but still hope that chimungmung will come through.

Might be worthwhile to drop Tony an email rather than waiting for it to appear online. His response is quick. Good luck.

I sent him an email 4 days ago and haven't heard, hope I do soon.

aparently the peg on the MFB is a 3mm peg and not a 5mm peg meaning it wont sit well in generations Swerves hands. what a frustration.

Source?

If true, that's crap. I only want it for generations Swerve. How do you build it up to 5mm?

bassbot
24th February 2014, 08:46 PM
the TJ Duckett review said that it has the smaller peg, i'm sure some customisers could suggest a good help in expanding it that isn't "put tape around it" (as he says in the review)

CBratron
24th February 2014, 09:21 PM
It's involved and will require tools but I think the 3mm peg should be cut off, a 5mm hole drilled in it's place and a new length of 5mm plastic rod glued in to make a new peg. And if you really want to make sure it doesn't pull back out, drill another hole in from the side through the gun and through the new peg. This locking hole doesn't have to be big, just enough to fit wire from a paper clip cut to length and glued never to be removed.

It may seem easier to build up a layer of putty or some kind of paint/lacquer around the existing peg but it's my experience that the extra layer just won't survive the wear and tear a weapon peg goes through.

What about getting a bit of 5mm peg and drilling a 3mm hole in it?

Where would you even get a length of 5mm plastic?

CBratron
24th February 2014, 10:08 PM
The 3mm hole in a section of 5mm is worth trying but I'd be worried the 1mm walls would split.

You'll find various sized plastic rods in model/hobby/craft shops and maybe hardware stores. It's a bit hit and miss if they're in stock because turnover is not a lot. Occasionally you'll find polycarbonate or carbon fiber rods and they'd work just fine but why pay more than you need to?

Swerve looks brilliant but they're SO small for the price point... especially when I only want Swerve and they're only coming as a 2-pack.

bassbot
27th February 2014, 01:03 PM
Okay, pulled the pin and pre-ordered with bbts. I already have an account with them so it's just easier for me. Didn't really want to spend that much but with action robo out of stock it was the only option (pay that much)

Drilling holes that precisely in plastic is tough. You might be able to do it with a pin vice but if you need a power drill, the chances are better than good that the forces from drill bit will just shred the rod.

Might have better luck using a styrene tube jacket over the peg? Plastruct 3/16" styrene tube has a 4.8mm outer diameter and a 3.2mm inner diameter. The fit will quite possibly be ok straight off the bat but any looseness can be tightened up with a thin coat of gap filling super glue (Zap-a-gap or similar) on the inside and outside as required, assuming you don't just glue it in place to begin with.

These are back up for order on ActionRobo, but with a bit of a price jump. $79 USD for the pair + MFB. Shipping is about $15 USD. Total all up after paypal and garbage is just shy of $110 AUD.

Snap the handle off of a different weapon? :p
Or if you have any left over Arms Microns you could remove the c-clip pins.
What else... rivets? Lollipop sticks?

I just received my Swerve and Gears, and couldn't be happier with it.
The transformation is a joy, and takes only a few seconds to change modes once you get the hang of it. But the best part of all was displaying Swerve with "My First Blaster" which just looks so frigging cool.

http://www.davidreilly.com/ebay/Gearsandswerve.jpg

But here's a tip - its hard to assemble if you're not careful, and I ended up cutting one of the blue bulbs too short when removing it from the sprue.
I'd have a look at Peaugh's youtube video of it, made the process so much easier.

Am I the only one that thinks that the face sculpt looks almost nothing like Swerve? The Generations figure does a HEAPS better job.

Alt mode on this one is really cool though.

I thought the face on Trash Talk was a bit off at first too but it's definitely grown on me and I now prefer it to the Generations Swerve which looks like it has really thick paint apps. Not to mention TT's robot and alt modes are both fantastic.

As far as shape goes, there are some differences but Swerve's head tends to vary a bit from panel to panel anyway. I think the biggest flaw is the shape of the optics (a bit too big and square) but otherwise it's recognisably Swerve. I find that transformers tend not to have particularly distinctive faces anyway. For the most part, their heads tend to be defined by the helmets and the eyes and in that respect Trash Talk ticks all the right boxes: red bucket helmet and blue visor. :)

The face sculpt looks weird to me. Flat and bizarre.
