Army building - Am I insane...

Is it totally crazy to have 15 air vehicon's most of which are in box.. 4 or 5 on titan Metroplex.. I started think i will get my own army/cannon fodder and it seems everywhere i go, i go hunting for them.

I have a few Wheeljacks in different molds, a few Grimlocks and i am looking forward to beast fire Grimlock. but with same mold repaints am i crazy for basically buying the same fig only in different colours? the only exemption would be the seekers IMO..

so who else get fig's to build a squad? Is getting that new cool repaint worth it..

they look good together in a squad that for sure...!! .... I got the MP lambo and the MP datson ... the GTR also ...they all about just the same but only repaints ..... same with the MP seeker as well.... I got like 12 MP seeker all in different repaints !! :D :D

I have a version of every G1 character ever represented with Classics Seeker mold. Plus a couple of the Universe 2.0 Cyclonus and Generations Scourge. (I need more Scourge.:p) I think it's OK to army build within reason, but at some point you cross into hoarder territory.

I think there's something a bit crazy about toy collecting in general, but army building is its own kind of crazy. When we do it, we're basically saying that we would rather spend our money of toys that are identical to ones we already have than the novelty of a new one.

I settled for just 2 ground vehicons myself - one FE and one RiD. I'm using them as the Odieverse versions of these guys (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Watchdog_%28G1%29). For the most part I try to go for different molds - eg. my planned Sweep horde will be 1x Titanium Scourge, 1x Classics Scourge, 1x Botcon Scourge (which I don't have), and 1x G1 Scourge, and Henkei Cyclonus' 'armada' is my old G1 Cyclonus - because I just don't have the budget and/or space to collect armies of sweeps/Vehicons/Insecticons.
I'd suggest that maybe if you've got 15-odd of the same army-builder and most of them are still boxed up, that might be a good time to look for something different and maybe offload a few of them, but that's just me. If you're a Prime fan AM Breakdown is pretty sweet, albeit expensive.

I prefer to army build with different toys rather than identical ones.
e.g. my TF Prime Vehicon army -- each Vehicon is a different toy.

Hey whatever floats your boat. I army build so I know what you feel in a way how your thinking. but to each his own method in army building - you keep them locked, I open them heheh. Sweeps, Insecticons, Terrorcons, Vehicons - deluxe and cyberverse versions, are but some of what I army build. It's not crazy - as long you have a budget for it that doesn't jeopardizes the other overheads. I do my army building passively now. ;)

15 is a hell a lot of Vehicons, I have a few of a couple differnt vehicon molds I'd like a few more, a Japanese colour FE vehicon is on my list but way too expensivee at the moment.

Like a lot of other collecting questions, it really comes down to "if you've paid all your bills, the mortgage is on track and it's what you want to spend your money on then go for it."

displaying them all is a challenge for me. This also limits my army building If I won't be able to fit them on the display as it has a theme at the time, I have less interest in army builders.

there are other valid repaits, wheeljack and Tracks from the generations line, smokescreen, Prowl and Bluestreak from most any line. inferno and Grapple.

I have a takara Scourge and a few generations scourge to make up sweeps.

the same character with a different deco always feels like more of a cash grab from Has/tak, especially the different movie bumblebee decos. but again, if you really like a particular paint job, can afford it and want it, get it.

I have two versions of the Prime voyager Megatron mold, I don't really care about Beast Wars toys but I'm excited about the TFCC repaint of that mold coming out this year.

Five is my upper limit for army building. I don't mind if others go as far as ten but any more than that and I'd put serious thought to having yourself committed.

And then there are laughable attempts of trying to manipulate post-retail prices by buying up and hoarding as much of one figure as possible.

Army building is a costly addiction :p
I started mine off with the BM vehicons but sold the bulk off (left with a few now that I'm trying to clear).
Got a good number of Sweeps from the Generation deluxe line.
Unfortunately I also collect GI Joes and army built a bit there as well.
Like some have already mentioned... It does take up a lot of space.
But hey, whatever makes you happy :)
The Metroplexes you keep tho... That's a little hard to justify unless you're intending to customize them to various titan colors.
They take up too much space! :eek:

BM legion btw not to expensive paided between $4.50 -$8 a pop.. so no not deluxe figs... $25 each would be crazy... and I would be getting nasty looks for spending a huge amount of money.. I totally agree with molds that have a slight difference.. commander Starscream is a good example of how the remold for BH version was done.. they changed just enough for me to go "ok wow thats cool.."
