Some odd (and some interesting) things are coming out of the current Wonderfest convention in Japan...
CM's Corp's next project (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/cms-corp-deathsaurus-in-develpment/29361/) looks to be Deathsaurus.
Fewture (by Art Storm - who did the recent Roadbuster toys) (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/upcoming-fewture-releases-giant-unicron-head-alpha-trion-and-more/29362/) look to have a number of non-convertible projects coming this year as well, like a large Unicron Head, Alpha Trion, a cut-away Optimus, and well, a number of Optimus figures by the looks of it.
Kotobukiya will be producing (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/japanese-transformers-40/wonder-festival-2014-coverage-d-style-optimus-prime-announced-179258/) a "D-style" (deformed) model kit of Optimus Prime this year.
And in a similar theme to Device Label (working MP3 player, Headphones, USB Hub, Mouse), there looks to be a Megatron toy (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/takara-tomy-sega-mega-drive-megatron/29360/)coming out this year from Japan that transforms into a Sega Mega Drive/Genesis console.
It is unlikely to be a working console, but it is way too obscure to not have some sort of electronics gimmick added.

If the budget allowed, which I'm sure it doesn't it would be possible to use a RaspberryPie to emulate the Genesis/Mega Drive and still have the figure be small. Really the only reason those Genesis consoles that are sold at Big W and Kmart are big is because they play the old cartridges and those slots for the carts are big.
I'm a little surprised that it is a Sega console they are using. Given the fact the Tomy makes the Pokemon toys for Nintendo and as of late Nintendo have been pushing out tons of shelf warming merchandise I would have thought a Famicom would be more logical.

And Action Master Grimlock.

The Megadrive is freaking awesome! I really hope they make a SNES Optimus! The great console Wars - Transformers style!
Mega Drive: "Prime! Your feeble Mode 7 Graphics will never be able to defeat the power of my Blast Processing! Maga Drive does what SNES Prime don't.
SNES Prime: "Rise FX chip! Light or darkest hour!"
Bought! But I want a SNES Prime because I was on the Nintendo side during the Nintendo/Sega wars and we won :)

I was on the Sega side and I still am due to nostalgia :p But when Sega dropped out, I really started to appreciate Nintendo products.

You know, that actually kinda works.
If you follow the history of the console wars and the emergence of Sony and Microsoft - you can see that Nintendo trying to make a CD upgrade for the SNES with Sony helped to develop and even funded much of the tech that eventually became the Sony Playstation. A similar story can be seen from Sega's dealings with Microsoft in developing the Dreamcast (which ran Windows CE).
That's what makes the Nintendo vs Sega wars so epic. They both in an attempt to create their own 'Super weapon' to defeat the other ended up creating monsters neither could control that ended up taking one out completely and heavily damaging the other.

Just remember, much as we love Nintendo they are now slowly dying at the hands of Apple, Google in the handheld space and Microsoft and Sony in the console space. They might be reduced to 3rd party status like Sega in a couple of years.
All this has happened before. All this will happen again.:(

Yep, fully aware of that hence my 'They created their own monsters' comment.

Boooooo! - SNES?, who wanted a console named after a nasal/respiratory discharge? :p:D
I was a Megadrive fanboy in the day but have come to appreciate the rival, hell you had the better looking MKII actually ;), so when I awoke to my twitter feed going ballistic with Winter Wonderfest reveals and "Megadrive Megatron" appeared? - I very nearly flipped my s***! :D
This is such a Japanese thing to do and I love them for it, I just hope that we get a Megadrive II Galvatron! :p
...oh, that Unicron head & A3 look pretty badass also. ;)

Another Japanese convention (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/japanese-transformers-40/new-transformers-goods-at-miyazawa-mokei-spring-exhibition-179654/) had the Megadrive Megatron prototype on display (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/japanese-transformers-40/takara-tomy-arts-megadrive-megatron-new-prototype-images-179649/), so nothing new, but maybe some new angles.
A shame they went with "Megatron" because of Megadrive... as the robot mode has the cartridge slot in the chest, which would make more sense (to Fans) to be done as Soundwave.
I guess if a redeco comes along, you'd think Soundwave should be it.

After the recent Rescue Bots Beam Box being a very simple computer game, and electronics can be quite condensed these days, I'd be hoping that there is something electronic with this to plug into the TV and play a simple game or two on it.

Seems this figure has hefty diecast content to thank for it's price... At least it looks it to me in these new pics. Hope it's available at normal retailers with some discount!
Official site (http://www.takaratomy-arts.co.jp/specials/hobby/tf/md/) promising more news in July.

That better be diecast or I'm going to cancel my newly made preorder. I don't like the design enough to pay ¥8500 without diecast.

Interesting that HLJ says his gun doubles as USB storage, but Hobbysearch doesn't. HLJ doesn't say what size either, so i'm doubtful that part is true.

This MAY help with that dude. ;)
(I assume you're referring to the storage capacity of the USB drive?)

That certainly helps with the verticality, but i was referring to the GB size :)
Now that i think about, i'd guess 16GB would be a pretty good match!
Though i wouldn't put it past them to just put a whole 16 bits in there!

Oh Happy day. So, just to be CLEAR, it actually does play MD games? are we 100% on that?
Please, I hope so! If it does, I am buying 3!
OH, looks like it doesn't. My wallet is happy but my soul is sad.
While you can't actually use this item to play videogames (it must be noted that this is NOT an actual, functioning videogame console), Megatron's right hand is a usable USB drive! Megatron will stand a mighty 19cm tall in his robot form.

The crap part is that they could have easily done it. There are lot of 'Third party' Megadrive portable clones in the market.
I'll put a Megadrive emulator with Roms in the USB stick but not really the same...
Now we need a SNES Prime even if from a 3P.
