Yeah, sigh, a man can dream...

Never understood why Stuart looks so miserable on Big Bang Theory, I'd love to run a comics & collectables shop. Maybe more like Banki from Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back though ;)

he never got out much and is still single yet looking but not looking lol.

As most said, you probably wouldn't churn in the profits or keep afloat just selling transformers alone.

Doubt we will get any repaints out of Wheeljack, he was never repainted or remoulded into other characters. There is Marlboro Wheeljack, but since tabaco advertising is band in civilised countries I can't see Takara putting it on a toy.

He was repainted into Slicer. Often. (1991, 2010, 2012). And they don't need to keep the original product advertising on a toy - just look at Jazz, Smokescreen, etc. They could still remould the head and adjust colours. They released Marlboro Man Jack's colours as Hyperspeed Wheeljack a couple of years ago.

with regards to retools, the Sideswipe and Prowl molds all feature new heads for the other characters. So if Takara were going to - Malboor/Malboro Wheeljack would be a pretty good choice with the unique head.

As for Tobacco, there are reforms but they do heavily smoke over there and I still have to insist that the MP line is for adult collectors anyway and is simply too good to give to children :p

And, as I said, twice more in 2010 (Shattered Glass Wheeljack/Botcon Slicer) and 2012 (Dark Energon Wheeljack). This is the Masterpiece line, where they love to release black Optimus Primes, black Rodimus Primes and green seekers - they're not going to let an opportunity to reuse a mould go by. They haven't had the original Wheeljack mould since 1991, if they did we would have had E-Hobby Slicer and Marlboor years ago.

griffin
26th January 2014, 07:54 PM
One Slicer toy as a straight redeco of Wheeljack (1991), one Slice(r) toy as a redeco of a toy (Downshift) that was allegedly supposed to be Wheeljack (2010), and a redeco Wheeljack toy that homages Slicer (2012).
So in a way, you're both right... as there are three "Slicer" toys or homages, but only one that was a redeco named as Slicer of a toy named as Wheeljack.

True, I think I'd prefer an "unmarked" Marlboro version though. :)

Also, I think people have forgotten about the obvious deco reference (http://www.toyarchive.com/Diaclone/WheeljackMalboro1b.jpg) on Transformers: Prime, Cyberverse (Legion Class) - "Hyperspeed" Wheeljack (http://www.tfw2005.com/resources/attach/4/0/5/9/7/Wheeljack_1335973240.jpg). ;)

That would be funny, and an in-joke for fans to replace the cigarette wording/logo decos... even if they had to create a mouth to do it.
But it would have to be exclusive to Japan for the "adult collectable market" - because Hasbro HK wouldn't wouldn't risk the publicity of appearing to promote smoking on a kids toy.

The toys would have the Hasbro logo on them, which would mean the bad publicity would come back to Hasbro headquarters (America).
At least if it was a TakaraTomy product, the media and "proactive" parents might try to stir up an issue by way of the "Transformers" Brand, but easily deflected by Hasbro as they can just point out that it isn't their Transformers.

Personally, I'm not sure the market in Australia is big enough to make a living exclusively selling transformers. For a small retailer, and especially if you want to sell the expensive third party items, the risk of unsold inventory is too high and could be crippling if you make a bad call on which products to stock. Also meeting obligations under Australian Consumer Law as well as import duties and GST could add significantly to your overheads. Not to mention that Australian domestic postage is relatively expensive so it could cost as much or more to send something around the country as it does to ship from Asia.

I could be completely wrong, but that's my 'gut feel'. :)

Sadly I think you're entirely correct.

In other news, I'm excited about this Wheeljack, hopefully bumblebee starts to get publicised soon.

I've preordered Wheeljack with G2 Sideswipe, I just love that Lambo in Black.

(giving Wheeljack its own topic from the joint one with Bumblebee, as more individual info is being released on just Wheeljack now)

One of the TakaraTomy designers (Shogo Hasui) has revealed some info on the upcoming Wheeljack, and the licensing of the Masterpiece line, translated from a Japanese blog posting (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-masterpiece-47/shogo-hasui-on-masterpiece-line-and-wheeljack-179372/).

- MP Wheeljack's colour scheme in vehicle mode is close to the real car, but he tried to make the robot mode's colours as close to the cartoon as possible.
- WJ's shoulder cannon can be attached to the car roof.
- WJ's Wings on the back do not require detaching when transforming.
- Thanks to Tomica (Tomy's Hot Wheels size, real vehicle base toy car series) it has become much easier to negotiate with car manufacturers. (I assume easier than when dealing with them as Takara, since Tomy has long-established connections thanks to Tomica)
- The sales of MP Lambor to Streak were excellent, and as a result, Smokescreen could have additional parts, and Wheeljack could be developed without considering re-purposing the mould.
- The first 3 real vehicle MPs were meant to be "Super Cars".

DELTAprime

I imagine that their budget for a number of unannounced MP's is already secured with how popular the line has been since MP-10. They wouldn't have reissued Takara versions of Optimus, Grimlock, Lambor and Soundwave in various markets if they didn't sell out the first time.

I am expecting mp-10 to be reissued as TRU-exclusive in the fancy box anytime. Since they going to introduce Prowl and what not, they will do this.

MP-10 wasn't a hot seller because a bunch of collectors like myself already have the mp-1 and 4 version, there wasn't that much vision to think Takara decided to push the entire line rescaled. By the time I wanted a mp-10, is at ridiculous prices.

The only issue is whether Takara will go through the trouble making a resized Megatron as they know it will be hard selling in other countries. I hope they do Gelvatron MP instead so it could be sold much easier, afterall there is a Rodimus around.

It is. Thanks for posting that. So Wheeljack was so complicated that he almost gave up? Interesting. Might be a reason we havent seen a V2 Megs yet. It just ended up in the too hard basket. Same with Ironhide/Ratchet?

I hope he gets reassigned to MPs in the future. Some of his ideas sound really cool, like developing rival characters together. It would be pretty awesome if for example we got Ultra Magnus as one release and then the very next release was Cyclonus and soforth.

I do want a more solid MP 09 though, the previous one was a lot of panels pressed together held by tabs that don't lock well was just substandard IMO. I wouldn't mind seeing an optional sticker sheet that has the real world detailing on Wheeljack, instead of a half & half deco job like Smokescreen.
Yes, i'm sure Reprolabels will be salivating at the thought, but i'd still like something included that would cover both versions.

hmmm, is it just the angle of the page shot? Wheeljack looks a bit spindly... worried about how strong that ankle joints are, as it seems there is minimal support/connection between the feet and lower leg parts. I like the color scheme, though since they're not using light gimmicks for his earflaps, mebbe they should've just left it clear plastic instead - same used for light piping so when the light hits it, it simulates a light up gimmick of sorts. Hmmm, not much in terms of accessories on this figure though. I would've thought a set of astro wrenches or something hehehe

Wheeljack looks good, the angle of the photo makes his arms look a bit low, but I think it's just the shot. I expect a certain amount of weird proportions in the chest anyway due to the nature of Wheeljacks transformation.

I love the crisp, clean white of this figure... it makes it look so beautiful. The fact that they managed to replicate the original logos instead of something fictitiously similar, just makes this one even sweeter... especially when it ends up lining up with the other Gen1 Autobot Cars.

I just hate that they are teasing us so early with the images as if it is coming out next month (as these hobby magazines usually feature items in the next 4-6 weeks), because it doesn't come out until August (as noted in the scan above). That's a 4-5 month wait on this figure. :(

GoktimusPrime

I meant a catalogue that showed an existing toy interacting with a toy that didn't exist yet, as per the suggestion that current MP cars should be photographed interacting with the as-of-now non-existent MP Ultra Magnus.

So for example, the 1986 catalogue (http://tfarchive.com/toys/catalogues/generationone_catalogue/86a_catalog.jpg) showed Metroplex with the 1986 Mini Cars interacting with it. But at the time, both Metroplex and those Mini-Cars were in existence and available for retail purchase. I've only seen a concept silhouette of MP Magnus, not even any images of unpainted prototypes like MP Bumblebee. So currently the only larger vehicle that the MP cars can interact with is MP Convoy. So as a selling point it makes more sense to inform consumers that the MP cars are "reverse compatible" with the MP Convoy toy (thus enticing people who already own Convoy to consider purchasing the MP cars to play along with it). I think it would make more sense to show Ultra Magnus w/ the MP cars on the MP Ultra Magnus box itself (which I'm sure they will), then for any future MP car releases they can show the cars interacting w/ MP Magnus and/or Convoy. I don't quite see the logic of showing the cars interacting with Ultra Magnus now when the toy doesn't yet exist, and some of the more casual collectors of MPs (and they do exist) may not be necessarily aware that MP Ultra Magnus is down the pipeline. I personally cannot recall any TF catalogue that displayed toys interacting with another toy that didn't exist yet, like say the 1986 Autobot cars (pre-TM) interacting with say Fortress Maximus.

Some of the G1 catalogues would either use concept silhouettes or "stand in" figures for toys that didn't yet exist at the time that the catalogues were created, and often figures varied between the time that the catalogue was made and when the final toy was released (e.g. Bluestreak, Slag, Astrotrain etc.). The early 1988 catalogue showed approx. half the Pretenders in just silhouettes with "Coming Soon!" plastered across them. Many of the Micromaster playsets just show them with the original versions of the moulds that were eventually repainted for them (e.g. Ironworks is shown w/ Powertrain etc.), and some just featured entirely unrelated toys as stand-ins, e.g. Skystalker is shown w/ Roadhandler etc.

So when it comes to the suggestion that current promotional images of MP Wheeljack should show him interacting w/ MP Ultra Magnus... I'm not entirely sure where the precedent for this exists. Currently I've only seen an illustrated silhouette of the toy; not even any unpainted prototypes for Wheeljack to be displayed with.

If anyone knows of a specific example of a catalogue that shows a toy being showcased or interacting with a future toy that didn't yet exist at the time of that display, please let me know and I'll happily sit corrected.

Those catalogues were some of my favourite things when I was a kid (especially that 1985 one). I would stare at them for hours.
Ditto. I used to try and draw all of the toys from that catalogue too, which sometimes got interesting when I was trying to draw a toy that I hadn't yet seen IRL yet, so just based on squinting at those little catalogue photos for ages. ;) I initially thought that Repugnus was a major retool of Snarl (and drew him using the same basic body structure). :p

There were heaps in Japanese line of toys, unfortunately goki , you were not in my age when that was happening. Diaclone, takara toys such as dougram, takatoku toys such as Macross and orguss have shown toys developed but not released yet. In a kids point of view is "new" and not available.

Take it with grain of salt as shipping from Japan took a while before it would reach countries like Singapore.

I have no idea why the big deal suddenly.

The thing is ultra magnus does exist except is not completed thus why they cannot do such a thing yet. It is common sense. What I am referring is when they finish ultra magnus but have not officially released the toy and they print it in the catalogue and it would be a "coming soon" as indicated.

spot on for their search, I used to remember they had a notify me when item becomes available, then it got taken off.

They are not my first choice as they are always late in announcing their release and sometimes some of these hot items don't even get published on their main page. The one main issue I have is they do not have a page on Newest or pre-order items in each sub category making it so hard sometimes.

I use them all the time as well, since boycotting Robotkingdom. They are in Hong Kong like Robotkingdom, and are usually only within a couple dollars of RK's prices (because they have smaller stock and turnover).

The drawback is that you have to wait for a paypal invoice from them within a day or two after you place your order, but the good thing is that they have been known to limit order quantities to prevent scalpers from cleaning them out of high-demand items.

Strange, I find RK's service one of the best from retailers I've used. I always email and get responses from Daniel very quickly. When my new MP-9B knees broke, they sent me replacement joints with no problems. When I had other QC issues like minor paint app issues that I could mostly live with, I still told them and they gave me credit back straight away (eg. 5%-10% credit back).

Their shipping costs are a little higher, but I'm OK with that since they protect their items for shipping so well, and they always have the exclusive coins and accessories.

Remember that PayPal gives you the option to simply use your credit card company's exchange rate, and not the PayPal rate. I agree the PayPal rate is very high, and the majority of times you will be better off using the option in PayPal to just use your credit card's rate, not theirs.

I actually like that they give you that option, but still provide the Buyer Protection that comes with using PayPal. Believe me, there are LOTS of collectors who have benefited from PayPal buyer protection when items are not received or not as described!

The division between today's MP's and the regular transformers you can get from the local store is almost unfathomable these days, while they have dropped in quality and size the MP's at least have kept the same level of quality and continued to innovate as far as transformations go.

Not sure if trolling or serious...

I'm serious that I want a MP Tracks but I know they couldn't retool this mold given that it's a licensed vehicle unlike the generic sports car of the Generations line. The Generations retool of Wheeljack into Tracks was a stroke of genius IMO.

I take it you're not a fan of Tracks?

didn't know you are very anti Ebay and Paypal (same company actually)
But don't you find is getting harder as most stores are switching to Paypal?

It is bad as they charge very high exchange rates which is worse than normal credit card charges, a lot of people are blind and thought they are better off.
your answer is below, I use my "Credit" Debit Card through paypal and it has a pretty competitive exchange rate.

Back on topic, I am really digging this Wheeljack.

I can see that happening from an engineering point of view
Obviously they're not going to paint the Stratos blue & tampograph flames on the bonnet being a Corvette, but the way they transform, like Sunstreaker is there: Legs at the front, arms tucked in at the back of the vehicle. Another approach would be how Jazz & the Datsuns similarly share the arms tucked in under the bonnet, legs at the rear configuration.

Tracks is cool. I thought you meant that they should change colours, slap a different head on it and call it a day. But I misinterpreted :o

Anyway, the thing I am looking forward to the most with an MP Tracks is a licensed Corvette Stingray… with wings!

I wonder if it would be possible to have a collapsing panel-former (like a room divider (http://www.crosstownshadeandglass.com/wp-content/gallery/accordion-doors/hardwood-veneers.jpg) or one of those camping tents that spring up into a solid structure), that can be a giant-ish space-shuttle and train, but in-scale robot mode.
The Gari-Kun Robo (iceblock transformers) have some panels that fold up quite a bit to hide most of the flat-panel parts... you could have Astrotrain's abdomen or limbs constructed from a block of folded up panels that would create the walls of the shuttle mode.

I think one of them is mistransformed. I am thinking it might be the new one that is incorrect.

The piece seems to fill in the gap between the feet when they join together in vehicle mode. It looks like it rotates down to form the base of the foot on a pin going from the white piece to the black base. There is also what looks like an ankle tilt joint visible in the previous shots.

If you look at the picture Husticon linked to a few weeks ago it is consistant with the official pictures

Now that i look at this other foot, i think you may be right - but mistransformed looks better to me! Maybe proper transformation gives him a bit more sideways motion at the ankle.

http://i.imgur.com/C0RtdZZ.jpg

The newer pic (on right) seems to have a mark just to the left of the black piece that touches the ground. On the older pic, you can see that mark is facing upwards. That seems to suggest that white piece rotates up (from touching the ground) to fill in the gap.

Exactly (glad someone understood what I was saying).

Only nitpick thing I disagree with is that I think the piece rotates the other way. If you have it going clockwise 90°, it might clip the ankle joint, so it may go anti-clockwise and have to spin 270°. Unless the ankle can lift up higher as part of the transformation to give it clearance.
But it is the same result either way.

I agree that it looks better. I wonder if it has an effect on the stability though.

its not quite the same, the pin/hinge is vertical and on the back. until we get it in hand cant really tell how it locks in place.

it also hides the rear wheels so the cavity might have a way of locking those in to make the shoulders more secure.

To be fair, if I was a seller, possibly with a language barrier, I'd probably be less than bothered about replying, depending on the volume of messages I get from buyers.

I would say you should be fine, but message the guy before you open a dispute, advising why, and that you're just doing it to protect your purchase. A little bit of politeness goes a long way.
