I've owned all of them except BT-17 as that was the reason why I stopped collecting BTs (except for BT-18)

I have/had about 10 Alt doubles and 4 BT doubles as well, plus all 3 BTAs and Kiss Plas would bring it to around 65-70...

I can't remember which are MIB or MISB offhand.

People can come up with statistics to prove anything, Forty percent of all people know that -- Homer J. Simpson

Not me, BTW:

BT-01 Smokescreen (#8)
BT-02 Lambor
BT-03 Streak
BT-04 Hound
BT-05 Dead End
BT-06 Tracks (yellow)
BT-06 Tracks (blue)
BT-08 Meister (red)
BT-08 Meister (white)
BT-09 Swindle
BT-10 Grimlock
BT-11 Ravage
BT-12 Overdrive
BT-13 Laserwave
BT-14 Wheeljack
BT-15 Prowl (white)
BT-15 Prowl (vivid blue)
BT-16 Skids
BT-18 Rijie
BTA-02 Sunstreaker

Alternators Nemesis Prime
Alternators Decepticharge
Alternators Rodimus

Which gives me a total of 23, although I picked up an Alternators Dead End for his red shoulders (donated to Sunstreaker), so I technically have that somewhere. With yellow shoulders. (If someone wants it as a junker, I'm willing to part with it, but I'm keeping the shoulders!)

And there's no comparison. None of these Alternators are anywhere near as nice as the BTs.

Half of them I could barely tell the difference. There are only a few that really stand out - and they are the WRCs.

And the finish on the 3 Kiss Pla are the nicest. :P It's what they should have done in the first place, but without the girls and bizzare storyline, and ridiculous mark-up.

See, this is typical of Sandgropers who move to the east coast.... :p

[this is aimed at someone else, BTW. You know who you are!]

Seriously, I find most of the moulds are really designed with metal in mind, and the realism suffers when the weight is dropped. The colours are usually far less realistic (especially on Smokescreen and Meister). Hasbro also tends to cut out minor aspects to cut costs, like chromed side mirrors and the like.

Considering that BTs sold for a very similar price in Japan to the RRP of Alternators in Australia, I find they're chalk and cheese.

In that case Wheeljack, Arcee and Rodimus are definitely Binaltech. Would have to dig the others out to check

on the note Rodimus never made it to Binaltech. It became plastic in the big jp box style.

If you examine close enough you realised this.

Lessee, since I last posted here on January 2008, my BT/ALT collection has grown by a whopping...

drum roll

2 :p

What changed?
* Offloaded ALT Wheeljack (still have BT Wheeljack :))
* Offloaded Decepticharge
* Acquired a BT Arcee (7 months after my last post ;))
* Acquired a BTA Broadblast (replacing the one which was stolen in '05; still haven't replaced the stolen BTA Alert though :o)
* Acquired ALT Mirage (found it last year at SupaNova at RRP! :D)
* Acquired ALT Grimlock (free via Pay It Forward :o)

I don't actively back-collect toys, so it's unlikely that my BT/ALT will grow unless I happen to find any that I want at RRP or less (as I did w/ ALT Mirage and Grimlock last year). Considering that my BT/ALT collection has only grown by 2 figures in the past 7 years, I'd say that the growth is pretty negligible. :o

I love ALT's/BT's and my list is growing as I try to complete the two lines but I'm not into peeing comps so no numbers or lists for me :p
I will say though that one of the main reasons I love them is because their scale to MP-01 and their modern day vehicle mode with a mostly good robot mode homage to their G1 namesake (mostly).
IMHO they are the DNA to our great Masterpiece line that we enjoy today, also I think that BT is better than Alt's but some may argue otherwise (I don't play with mine so paint chips are no problem)

GoktimusPrime
7th March 2015, 08:45 PM
The thing that I still really love about Binaltechs is that it is still - IMHO - the best TF line when it comes to being robots in disguise. I love Masterpieces too, but for entirely different reasons. I love MPs because they're fantastic interpretations of the G1 cartoon robots with licensed 80s vehicle modes; but I love Binaltech because they're more recent model cars with an incredible about of detail in their vehicle modes! Detailed interiors (steering wheel, air con vents, glove box, airbag panels, gear stick, speedo/odometers, parking brake handle, indicator/wiper stalks, bonnets that open to reveal engines, boots that can open, working rack and pinion steering et al.); and they transform into fully articulated robots with self-contained weapons/accessories to boot! :D This isn't a criticism against MPs as 'translating' those reality-defying G1 cartoon models into actual toys is no easy feat, and each MP continues to impress me. But I really love how I can look at my Binaltechs and suspend disbelief that they're transforming robot action figures and allow myself to regard them as model cars.

^Binaltech and Masterpiece; both great lines in their own right :)

also I think that BT is better than Alt's but some may argue otherwise (I don't play with mine so paint chips are no problem)
I've only ever experienced chipping w/ BT Smokescreen and a little bit of chipping on BT Tracks (specifically the bonnet tabs which connect with each other (thus rubbing directly against each other)). The paint quality from BT2 onwards has actually been really good.

I couldn't have put it better myself and as much as I love the MP line, initially with the re-scale at MP-10 (or 9 depending on your POV) I was so disappointed, but I now happily accept and understand it. Rubber tyres would be nice though :p ;)

This was my biggest disappointment in mp line, is now where near this style and quality. This was what brought me back into Transformers, and sadly mp line is starting to fade out for me.

Smokescreen paint apps are just so way out of the chart. Sadly no diecast versions of the Ford GT. Was surprised they didn't do a Frenzy version as Rumble was there. I like this line so much that I be keeping it as a main display.

Only Skids and Arcee are MISB all the others are just stored in their boxes for safe keeping.

This is THE line that got me back into collecting after many years hiatus after G1/G2. If they decided to pick this line back up any time soon I'd be pretty happy.
While they are often on the fiddley side this line is the closest thing to representing what a true robot in disguise might look like in todays world in both modes.
