View Full Version : TakTom TF4 "Lost Age" Advance toyline

As reported over at Seibertron (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/inhand-images-takara-tomy-transformers-lost-age-advanced-line/29599/), repaints of previous movie figures, including Dispensor, G1-themed Protoform Optimus Prime, several Bumblebees, Crosshairs, Jolt, Ratchet, Dino, Devastator, Soundwave, Starscream and more.

But the one I am mainly interested in, is Dispensor.

I'm definitely that Dino and Dispensor, Maybe Jolt he looks more accurate than the Rotf, they really should have put Leadfoot in this line.

Dispensor looks like a win - especially after some reprolabels.
The top of the truck looks a bit like a vending machine.:D

Is that the legends Devastator? I might be into that :)

Put me down for Dino, Dispensor and Soundwave right off the bat! :D

Love how it says "several (shelfwarming :p) Bumblebees"

But yes Dispensor looks like pure win. I'll be obligated to get Soundwave too, almost like a Soundblaster colour scheme. Devastator looks ok too.

I had to go take a second look at that. That's a nice touch.

Means he'll have a 3rd unofficial mode of vending machine. All you have to do is have him standing on his boot in vehicle mode :p

Sure is :D

Devastator's probably the only one that i'll be picking up from this range.

Isn't Dino just a repaint of sideways?
and isn't Jolt just a redeco of jolt with differnt weapons?

Is the Dispensor a repaint of something? I do really like it, just wish it was actually a vending machine. An "English" version would be awesome.

I really like the Protoform prime, very much like he was presented in the comics.

the Classic BB looks pretty good. It looks like a new mold too?

I don't mind the Devastator either, it's just a repaint of the existing legends one right?

the Starscream has nice colours but that's what my MPM-01 is for.

the others are just repaints I think. meh.

I've still got my Movie toys, I'll be picking up a couple of these suckas.

Like pretty much everyone else in this thread: Sign me up for a Dispensor. I don't care how bad the original toy was, I wants it.

Repaint of Payload (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Payload_%28Movie%29#Transformers_.282007.29)from the first movie's toyline, but with a new head and gun.

Looks like a good paint job on them too. I'd be grabbing it if I didn't have one already.

Of the 12 figures listed, 10 are repaints/remoulds/new weapons
Bumblebee (black) & Crosshairs are new :)

I personally hope they got rid of the gimmick from the Movie Payload toy, as it has this annoyingly space-consuming thing that sticks out from the back... and the gimmick isn't even that great. :/

That's gonna be expensive for some of us, as JP prices are always high, and the paint apps on these will make them expensive too.
I see that a couple are from the "Trilogy" series that never happened, which was to have some redecos, like the Soundblaster Soundwave that appeared on ebay as loose figures.
Since these are from all four movies, it really is a "Movie Universe Line".
NOTE that the Japanese name for "Age of Extinction" is "Lost Age", and these are just advance toys (coming out early May, instead of the main line that is likely to be out in June in Japan, as the May 17th embargo doesn't apply to them since they don't have the Hasbro toys).

TF1 DLX Protoform Optimus Prime - Gen1 redeco & new weapon
TF2 VOY Optimus Prime - metallic deco
TF2 (HFTD) DLX Battle Blades Bumblebee - metallic deco
TF2 DLX Payload - retooled into TF1 Dispensor
TF2 LEG Devastator - minor redeco to make it even more movie accurate.
TF2 DLX Sideways - retooled into TF3 Dino/Mirage
TF3 DLX Starscream - in TF1 colours & new weapons
TF3 DLX Jolt - in TF2 colours
TF3 DLX Ratchet - similar to the previously cancelled white with red redeco
TF3 DLX Soundwave - similar to the previously cancelled black redeco
TF4 DLX (classic) Bumblebee - apparently the same as US version
TF4 DLX Crosshairs - apparently the same as the US version

Going by that larger than expected listing (it is going to be an expensive set to collect), the TF4 moulds are cheaper than the older moulds... suggesting that they are cheaper to produce for some reason (size maybe). Since the old moulds are priced at higher prices than the new moulds, it isn't a change in the overall size-class price. These new moulds are cheaper to produce and sell.
(but then, why aren't Hasbro passing on that saving, if they are indeed cheaper to produce  )

2800 yen = New Deluxe (TF4 moulds)
3200 yen = Old Deluxe
(4000 yen for DLX Battle Blades Bumblebee is unusual though, so something extra must be in that pack)

4500 yen = New Voyager (TF4 moulds)
4800 yen = Old Voyager

And the other two items...
7500 yen = Leader class
6500 yen = 6-pack Legion set (Devastator)

From the twitter feed that Deonasis linked to...

Release date is 5-17-14 for AD1-15 & 6-21-14 for the last four. Also seems AD19 is a Deluxe class figure.

So either it is May 3rd... or, May 17th for the first 15 and June 21st for the other four.

Images of the AD-01 Leader Class Optimus (the one that was first seen at the NYCC in October (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=17061)) were also included in the recent JP Hobby magazine scans (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-toys-products-30/takaratomy-movie-advanced-ad-01-optimus-prime-new-scan-179519/) that all the Masterpiece info has been coming from this week.

This figure is in the First wave of Leaders by Hasbro, but might not look as fancy with shiny parts, as this JP version is being listed as "Premium".

We get a good look at the back of the toy in Robot mode, and it looks worse than the First Edition figure.
Between these two moulds, and the Voyager Optimus being the square-cab truck, it isn't looking good for a decent Optimus nose-cab figure for us.

The pre-order discount (30%) cut-off at Anime-Export (http://www.anime-export.com/search?search=Transformers%20Movie%20Advanced) is tomorrow, and I was trying to decide if I should pre-order some of the ones that we don't yet know are coming through Hasbro, while at a fairly cheap price.

Anyone here already looking at getting any of these Japanese Advanced figures? (which ones?)

Do you think that these will still be released by Hasbro in their later waves?

Is anyone pre-ordering the AD-018 and AD-019 before they are revealed, or will you wait? (the discount ends tomorrow for those two as well, and since they charge straight away, who would risk buying something that doesn't even have a name, let alone image).

I only discovered these a few hours ago. As usual, the ones I like are sold out on BBTS. I like the BBTS POL system. It's the only place I will 'preorder' something from. Especially since I can't see what the final look of the figures will be.

Yes it is the Black Knight Grimlock. It's apparently in silver and black but dunno if it's worth paying a premium for a Grimlock with less colour than the Hasbro version.

Is it Black Knight or Black Night?

Both make sense, with so many Silver Knight Optimus toys from Hasbro... but also as a dark deco if it is "Night".

I'm leaning towards Night, as Japan hasn't got any Silver Knight Optimus toys in the first four months of their toyline... so doesn't make sense in the Japanese market without the Hasbro "Knight Optimus" to go with it.

The Grimlock is most likely a placeholder image like the Bumblebee one to show what type of TF it is (Dino or Vehicle). There's artwork for two more Dinobots we've not seen toys for, so those could be them.

You shouldn't feel like that... it could just be bad timing, as I think they may have increased their own stock number. I felt the same way every time people kept saying that the Deaths Head figure was in stock at BBTS, but it was always out of stock for me.

How did you go with the Amazon Movie toys now that they fixed up the glitch?

Looks like Asian sources are already shipping out the first wave of JP AOE "Advanced" figures (AD-01 to AD-15), as I got charged for my pre-order yesterday, and some photos have been posted the first 15 in packaging (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-toys-products-30/in-hand-images-of-transformers-lost-age-movie-advance-series-optimus-prime-and-grimlock-179971/) (and just 01 Optimus and 03 Grimlock out of packaging at that link).

The higher price for DLX Battle Blades Bumblebee (over other the other Deluxes) makes sense now, as it is packaged in box like a Voyager... maybe due to the smaller Deluxe card-bubbles are too small to fit it now, or TakaraTomy wanted to show off the golden Robot mode more.

None of those 15 interest me (thank god):)
I'm wanting a few of the next wave Takara though but not due out til July apparently.
Nothing at Amazon either.

Do we know if Classic Bee (JP) is the same as HO Bee (US) and JP Galvatron the same as US Galvatron?

I'm only after those two plus DOTM Soundwave aside from the previously mentioned Prime's. But if Takara isn't doing anything different paint wise I'll just get the Hasbro versions.

According to those early product listings, the Bumblebee is said to be "movie accurate deco, with more details on arms, legs and horns", while Galvatron is noted as having an "extra blue line in (robot) mode, and orange on chest & eyes".
JP versions often seem to include all the original paint apps that Hasbro had in their promotional images, but progressively removed to reduce production costs of each figure.

A better look of the figures in their boxe (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-toys-products-30/in-hand-images-of-takara-aoe-figures-180003/)s. Still looking for out-of-packaging images, and comparisons with Hasbro figures to see how much extra detailing actually occurred.

Oh, so the vintage Prime in that box set (Chronicles - is that the one you referred to as JP or Trilogy, griffin?) has a new hitch for the new trailer to match the DOTM/movie-verse Prime? I know the old/Encore/reissue Prime trailers are not compatible with the new AOE Prime.

Hang on, both the Movie Trilogy Series Prime and the CH-01 Prime have trailers that open, right? Thats what I've been able to figure out from some Googling. It also has 5mm ports on the side top corners.

That one doesn't have Mechtech ports...

So which trailer is in the photo?

Sorry, I confused people a little. The Hasbro Trilogy Trailer does open up, but from the side, not down the middle like the JP TF3 trailer.

Hasbro Trilogy Trailer - opens up on the side
JP TF3 Mechtech Trailer - opens up along the middle
JP Chronicle Trailer (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers-toys/gallery/transformers-chronicles/optimus-prime-dotm/2497/) - same as Hasbro Trilogy trailer

In other words, the one in the original photo with TF4 Voyager Optimus is the JP Mechtech trailer, which opens up along the middle.

I just picked up my Prime's from the Aus Post DC today. Looking at the packaging I find it kinda odd that they are in the Hasbro packaging, with Hasbro's version of the toy even on the back. Takara have just stuck some stickers on the bottom of the box.

Just my theory here but I'm guessing Takara is not really interested in the film. They seem to have produced in small numbers as most figures are selling out fast and really half assed the packaging.

They used the same style yes. I have Takara figures from all 3 previous movies, they were different from the Hasbro packaging in that they had Japanese writing and pictures of the Japanese product when the product differed. These boxes are not "in the same style", they are the exact same boxes! All in English and with the lesser painted Hasbro product on the box and even Hasbro logos.

The only way to tell the Takara box from the Hasbro box is the couple of stickers Takara have added.

That is true. But they cut back heavily on the Movie toys in TF3 (skipping many of the Hasbro toys), and this time around they seem to be focussing heavily on toys that Hasbro don't even appear to be releasing.
At least that they are looking at figures where there is demand, rather than just releasing everything en-mass like Hasbro.

The Drift Voyager was revealed in that link by Deltaprime... so yes, it is more likely that it isn't in the movie, or Hasbro is being lazy and thinking any helicopter mode will do.
It's odd that they would give it a toy and RC if it isn't in the movie in at least some minor way... but if it is there in some major role, Hasbro would have created a new mould for it.

As people have been getting the first wave this week, and posting up reviews in the review section of the more interesting ones, does anyone have any group shots of the non-Hasbro figures and/or the Japanese TF4 toys that ARE being released by Hasbro?
Or some comparisons or differences between the Japanese and Hasbro TF4 toys?

JP TF4 figures also by Hasbro -
AD-01 - Leader Optimus Prime
AD-02 - VOY Optimus Prime
AD-03 - VOY Grimlock
AD-04 - DLX Classic Bumblebee
AD-05 - DLX Dinobot Scorn
AD-06 - DLX Crosshairs
AD-07 - DLX Slug

Non-Hasbro (so far) figures -
AD-08 - DLX Battle Blade Bumblebee - TF2 HFTD metallic deco
AD-09 - DLX Protoform Optimus Prime - TF1 Gen1 deco & new weapon
AD-10 - DLX Starscream - TF3 in TF1 deco & new weapons
AD-11 - DLX Dispensor - TF2 Payload retool & new weapons
AD-12 - VOY Revenge Optimus Prime - TF2 metallic deco
AD-13 - Legend Devastator - TF2 more movie accurate
AD-14 - DLX Jolt - TF3 in TF2 colours & new weapon
AD-15 - DLX Ratchet - TF3 in white w/ red deco & new weapon

I bought the non-Hasbro figures except Devastator (it wasn't different enough to be worth it... yet), but don't have any photos up yet.
So until I do, did anyone else take any group shots or comparison pics yet?

I got the Dispensor, Evasion Prime and Scorn.

I liked Dispensor, I don't have any other version of the mold, I thought it wasn't a bad transformation for it's age. I don't like the claw gimmick, I wish it could be folded up onto the back of the robot mode.

The Prime is an interesting transformation and a nice paintjob, in my mind the best paintjob that mold has seen.

Scorn is OK, I feel the robot mode articulation is a bit of a let down, same with alt mode but I do like the overall look of both modes, as a movie related bitsy dinosaur.

I initially thought it had a new weapon, but it is exactly the same... the top part is folded out on the new JP one, but folded up with the other two.
A bit disappointing, as the other Deluxe JP figures had new weapons.
Actually, more disappointing was the new weapons for Starscream. He has two massive axes, but can't hold onto them as the hands were too thin for a fist hole. So they plug into the arms like arm cannons, but the massive axe blades stick out, and add nothing to either mode except ruining the look of the "cannons".

BBTS have listed two more Gimmick toys for the Japanese Movie line - LA12 (One Step) Stinger (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=TAK11909&mode=retail), LA14 (Power Battler) Battle Attack Nemesis Prime (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=TAK11910&mode=retail) (likely a black deco).
LA12 is noted as an August release, while LA14 has a September release. No idea on what or when the LA13 will be.

It is worth noting that the regular coloured Power Battler Optimus doesn't appear to be releasing in Japan, so the black version could be the only version of that mould there.
Stinger is likely to be the same as the Hasbro version.

BBTS have also given names to AD29 (Voyager Slog) and AD30 (Voyager Drift).
Not sure if they are just guessing based on them being Voyager price-points and the last two Autobots at Voyager price-points, or, if they now know for sure it is those two.

The identities of AD18 (Voyager Decepticon), AD19 (Deluxe Autobot) and AD28 (Deluxe Dinobot) are still unknown... but AD28 is likely to be Snarl.
Since Voyager Galvatron is supposed to be AD22, it is possible that AD18 could be a Nemesis version of the Voyager Optimus.

I was really lucky and got Leadfoot cheap about six months after he sold out. Really glad I got him then. The Wreckers might be harder to reissue, they have to licence the car from Chevy, the character design from Paramount and the Nascar brand also. I'd guess if they wanted to do sponsorship on them they would also have to license that (my Leadfoot looks really plain without sponsorship).

Apparently that Optimus is a simplified 4 Step Changer. And judging by the pics at RK, he is really small as he is pictured with OneStep Changers Drift, BB, Hound. I did notice that that pic has him with 2 trailers instead of just the one on the pic I saw a few days ago.

It's good to finally see the Wheeljack head being released, but a shame that it is a store exclusive in Japan instead of the main Advanced line... which will make it expensive.

According to the Hasbro people at BotCon, they have no plans to bring over / release any of the JP Advanced figures. That could change later, but at this time, don't expect it.

AD31 has been revealed to be a slightly remoulded Leader Optimus toy (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-toys-products-30/takara-ad31-ultimate-power-mode-optimus-prime-prototype-image-180870/) (to be called "Ultimate Power Mode" edition), with new sword, head, chest, feet and forearms... probably to be more movie accurate, as the original sculpting was probably based on concept images, and the final CGI version might have had changes after the toy was already sculpted and moulds made. (a bit like the first Movie Optimus having Swords added to the CGI after Hasbro had designed and moulded the first wave toys)

Since AD29 & AD30 are in September, this is likely to be an October release in Japan.

The remoulding is actually based on the extra bits of armour Optimus gets in the scene where he frees the Dinobots from the ship and gets upgrades for himself. He is coming out in November according to BBTS, not October.

He is actually called Armored Knight Optimus according to Seibertron which makes sense given the upgrades are from that scene.

I hope he gets a more premium paint job like the first release of Buster Prime from ROTF. Love the pin striping and chrome on that particular release of Prime.

Well if memory serves (and I may be wrong) in the 86 catalog sheet there were 52 of each. I'm sure if you count mail away figures it probably throws those numbers out though.

Edit: Sorry, there were 48 of each, making 96 total :o (hey, I was close :p)

Well if memory serves (and I may be wrong) in the 86 catalog sheet there were 52 of each. I'm sure if you count mail away figures it probably throws those numbers out though.

48 Autobots and 48 Decepticons are on the catalog - so you're right about evenness there, I just wasn't sure who the other eight characters were and if you were counting mailaways. Which would arguably be:

Autobots - Powerdasher (1 or 3?), Camshaft, Downshift, Overdrive, Mirage, Ratchet, Sunstreaker, Wheeljack.
Decepticons - Reflector (1 or 3?), Thundercracker.

And I couldn't quite turn that into four Autobots and four Decepticons in my head unless it was:

Mirage, Ratchet, Sunstreaker, Wheeljack/Spectro, Viewfinder, Spyglass, Thundercraker. (Which works if you ignore Powerdasher(s) and Omnibots. And let's face it, a lot of people do.) :p

It's the mould that fans expected anyway... due to the robot mode on the Walmart Stinger packaging being a straight redeco of the 2014 Bumblebee art.
It doesn't work in vehicle mode as Stinger, but since Hasbro cancelled their Stinger, this is likely the only non-Gimmick one we'll get.

Release date of January, so a bit of a wait for a mere redeco. (AD-31 is to be released in ten days time, leaving a two month gap to the next JP movie toy)
