I don't know, I feel pretty 'meh' about this.
Don't like the other modes as I don't really see how I can display smaller figures on it like Generations Metroplex.
I wonder how tall he stands though?

I wonder how tall he stands though?

Using the screw holes as a yardstick, maybe roughly as tall as Giant?

Looks like a smaller, more play-friendly not-Metroplex. So far I like it. I would not be making a choice between Gen Metroplex and this guy; will just judge the figure on its own merits. However, the obvious repaint (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Metrotitan_(Zone)) will be hard to pass by even if you already own Gen Metroplex ;)

Going a bit further down the line here, but I also really like the sounds of the "City Bot Series" - so much potential. A not-Trypticon or not-Scorponok in this scale would be friggin' wonderful. Not sure about a city-scaled not-Fort Max as I'm pretty content with Warden.

A pity Gen Metroplex is still fresh in people's minds. MakeToys might have differentiated themselves from it by modeling it after FoC Metroplex or doing Trypticon before anybody else.

There's a 'real' Metroplex (Generations) out now. Why would anyone want a fake one?

as much as i want to like the official product, its a floppy mess. i hate how i cant pose it without it falling over unless its standing completely upright.

i have seen fixes for it, but i shouldn't have to do them.

its pretty much the same with generations blitzwing. his shoulders are the worst i have ever experienced with a transformers toy.

Apparently someone was able to approximate it's size, looks about 4 inches higher than Maketoys Giant. Not bad if your collecting a base for your 3rd party bots. But, I'm sure this would have a 300-500 price tag and that amount I would rather send on some other stuff ;). As everyone Said There is already an official Metroplex that does just fine, not spectacular but it does the job and is affordably priced enough. Had they done say, Trypticon, people might've been more drooling and throwing those "take my money" memes more.

Because the "real" one looks like a compromised piece of garbage with terrible alt-modes.

This MakeToys Metroplex looks great, but simply too expensive for me because I am a cheapskate.

At least this transforms into something that tries to resemble a city/base. Generations Metroplex looks way too much like Plexy doing the splits because they couldn't hide/disguise the pelvis properly.

This looks great.
Lots of potential but to market it as a Metroplex will not be wise as like most have mentioned, a lot of us are satisfied with Hasbro's offering although it can be a little floppy plus a little too much on the thin side... But for a quarter of the price, who's complaining? :)
Maketoys should market this as Metrotitan and do it soon before Hasbro officially release that if they wanna capture a substantial market for this mould.
But that's just my opinion...

A fair point, then again how many Optimus (Optimi?), Bumblebees, Megatrons or Starscreams does the average collector own? :)

Fingers crossed for a range from $200-300. 3rd party gestalts have commanded ranges higher than that - especially Feral Rex (but he's friggin' awesome). However, considering that city-formers have fairly simple transformations, or may even parts-form, I'd rather not pay above that range for what may turn out to be a heavy chunk of plastic (this is probably where Gen Metroplex was perfect).

Though Leige is probably right - considering how much Maketoys was asking for not-Nova Prime..

Pretty much this. Not only is the Hasbro one very recent, it was big, like the fans wanted. It was poseable, like the fans wanted. It was mass retail, like the fans wanted. It was detailed and looked fantastic, like the fans wanted. It looked like the original character and invoked a G1 aesthetic, like the fans wanted. It was high quality, like the fans wanted.

I don't understand the appeal of this at all (especially if it's much smaller with all the complaining ""why aren't the Hasbro toys bigger?!" going on).

There is a reasonably reliable rumour on TFW that Maketoys will do Trypticon next from the guy that appears to have some connection to Maketoys.

As always, grain of salt.

Well the title of the topic does say city bot series. One can assume Trypticon will be one of these city bots.

llamatron

Or it could be a series of Metroplex, Metrotitan, Necrotitan, etc :p

The carrier mode looks sweet.

There's a 'real' Metroplex (Generations) out now. Why would anyone want a fake one?

Well because this one might well be better quality, easier to store and display with other figures and have better proportions.

I purchased the Hasbro Metroplex on sale and I'm really quite ambivalent about it. It's tall and imposing but that's about is. It's to big for the cheap plastic and not much fun to play with, and storage is an issue, mine is standing in the lounge room I have no idea where to keep him.

Not to say I'm going to buy another Metroplex or that I'm won over by Maketoys version, but considering the quality of previous releases they certainly have my attention.

You know the thing that makes me not a fan of Metroplex? Show him to any nonTF fan in alt mode and their likely reply will be "And what is that supposed to be?"

He doesn't look like anything. We know what he's supposed to be but no one else does.

This one is not really any different.

I'm much in the same boat dude, I've got Takara's Gens figure and just can't justify this bloke's purchase :o; Which is a shame because this thing is an absolutely amazing "love letter" to the original toy and I think it does a better job at being a city/base & mobile battle-platform than said Generations figure.

@Trent: You're not wrong dude, but with a little imagination one should be able to see: "Oh! - It's some kind of base or something?", well I think so anyway. :p

Golden opportunity missed to give him an actual 'city' alt-mode. Hasbro's already done the 'direct G1 update' thing. They should have been more inventive.

And they could at least have made the middle ramp reach the ground FFS...

Nah, bigger and cheaper is usually pretty rare, if the quality and solidarity is there in a figure that size it's not really a surprising price.

A man can dream though.... a man can dream.......;)
