I found The Covenant of Primus in the book section at BigW today for $68, there were a few of them actually.
Pretty good value compared to the prices I see you guys paid when ordering from the US, might pick up a copy later in the week :)

That's my problem too.
dymocks (I think) had the Federation book cheap without the big plastic case, late last year online, maybe they'll pick this up later in the year and sell it the same way.

$50 for the book and case is better than just the book, as the book alone is not worth $50... while the book and case were definitely NOT worth the US$100 that was the RRP in America (http://www.amazon.com/Transformers-Covenant-Primus-Justina-Robson/dp/1477805990/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1395380391&sr=1-1&keywords=transformers+covenant) (because it is just a small story book, not a (large) reference guide, which it should have been at that price).

Wow that's better than the $68 it was spotted for at Big W elsewhere. I think I can justify it for that price.

Covenant of Primus was on sale, and $50 would be about the most I'd pay for it as well, but the book is good, although not as much artwork as I thought there'd be. The Autobot symbol container gimmick is pretty cool too, but what surprised me is the size of the box it comes in, about 50cm square!
I'd also tried to find it at Forest Hill Big W, but the sales assistant couldn't find any in stock and it certainly wasn't on the floor. Perhaps it's currently only in a few Big Ws in Victoria?

It's $50 at Big W which was a price I was happy to pay. I may hang the symbol up,
It's not imported stock; it's got Scholastic Australia as the publisher/distributer both inside the book and on the outer packaging, so perhaps a special order? It was on the shelf at Big W with similar Star Wars style books.

Big W Jesmond didnt have any on floor. When asked to check out the storeroom she came back empty handed. Their computer systems said they had a heap of them but she couldn't find any. Left my name and number for when they find/arrive.

I wonder if there are any differences to the US release, if it's perhaps a differnt guage paper, or doesn't have the hard cover? Has the spelling been corrected to "Proper" English

It's still hardcover, didn't notice any spelling changes, but I'll have a look.

My local Big W has no books on shelves when I checked yesterday, but today I called them and they said that their system says that the books are in stock, which means that they're somewhere out back, but haven't been unloaded and shelved yet. Apparently only one person in the whole store is in charge of books, and she had already gone home today even though I called an hour before they told me that she would leave  I spoke to another staff member who said that she'll get back to me tomorrow about reserving a copy, and hopefully the other copies will be shelved.

I looked everywhere on shelves.. None... Went to front counter... At the front on the sidewalk... Went out there.. Three copies... Bought two... 50$ each... bloody huge... love the autobot symbol... Its wall mountabale... Still yet to open the book from its plastic wrap... Well worth the hassle... Its worth 50$ alone for the autobot symbol i reckon... lol...

I picked mine up from Macquarie Centre Big W on Wednesday night, it was at the back of the store on an end next to the rest of the book section. There was probably 10 or so left. It was with some Star Wars Books as well.
I finally opened it, I do like the case, and the box, the sounds it makes when you open it are a bit average, I'd be much more interested in more traditional transformation sounds.
The hole on the back to hang it is small also, you need a small screw or hook.
I haven't opened the book yet, maybe in the next week or so I'll have time to give it a good look.

On sale from March 27 to April 23 (http://www.bigw.com.au/offer/catalogue#view=catalogue2&saleId=6093&page=7)... a good four weeks to get them (plus a few extra days, as people were getting them before the 27th).
They have it listed with a RRP of $100 (http://www.bigw.com.au/offer/catalogue#view=product&itemId=6093206&saleId=6093), but their regular price was $68... which is deceptive advertising, suggesting that shoppers at their store are saving $50, but are really only saving $18. (which I thought was illegal)
I saw these at Garden City, and as you can see in the catalogue link, they were amongst several Star Wars books that were in similar solid display cases.

There were quite a few at the front of the store (outside) at Rouse Hill for those having trouble tracking down a copy.
So, is it worth the $50? I like reference books and thought The Vault was very well done. Is it worth having both?

It's not a reference book.
It's a fiction story, with illustrations, that's inspired by (but ignores) existing TF G1 canon to create something new and "Aligned" that combines the War For Cybertron games, the tie-in novels, and the TF:Prime cartoon.
It's not something in the same category as The Vault book.

Is anyone having trouble when mounting the case on the wall? The bottom opening section of my case keeps sliding down on its own. Had to put a bit of blutak on the inside to keep it from falling :/

Nope, not having that sliding problem with mine Polursine. It "locks" into place supposedly. Not tightly locked but you know, enough to keep the panels from sliding down...

@5FDP, as Paulbot has said, it's a fiction book, a bit of a read actually, Not so much of a reference book as the Vault is. It's TF: Prime, WFC - G1, not G1 - G1... does it make sense what I just said? heheheh

Dems fighting words.
It's non-fiction and the authorative word of Primus, as told by his duly
appointed vessel, Alpha Trion. Think of it like a history book, or the bible ;p

I think if it had the exact same content but not in a first-person "story" narrative, it would have been a good reference book to make the whole "Aligned continuity" concept that Hasbro have put on us over the last 6 years, easier to follow and understand.
It used and expanded on some existing concepts, but the Hasbro people created a new Universe, so it would be nice as fans to have a guidebook to that Universe.

I haven't read it all yet, I've just skimmed through to avoid spoiling reading the novels and watching TF:Prime, but I've read enough to notice that one big plot spoiler which is rather ridiculous.
I'm all for Aligned being it's own thing. It works just as well as G1 did/does as a framework, it's just a shame it had to "borrow" so much from G1 to do it rather than being it's own new thing, making the division harder to see (basically impossible in WFC).

I picked up a copy last week & after at times struggling to stay focussed to read it through (the author's writing style can be quite dry at times), I finally finished it today.
I enjoyed the Primus, Unicron & 13 Primes chapters but the WFC/FOC & TF: Prime stuff felt like nothing but a means of cross-selling the games/show (point: I've never played those games/watched the show & I have no real desire to).
Although it's not the worst TF-Book I've ever paid money for (Simon Furman's Ultimate Guide was nothing but a waste of paper), this Covenant of Primus would probably be middle of the pile. Not the best book, but not the worst book either.
GoktimusPrime
5th April 2014, 05:45 PM
I've read bits here and there... as The_Black_Sheep said, the writing style isn't terribly engaging. As far as proper reference books are concerned, you'd be better off sticking w/ TF Generations, Vault, Cybertronian Unofficial Recognition Guide and the Bellamo books.
