Thought it is confirmed a TRU exclusive coming into Aust. $95 I think.

The box doesn't make prowl worth $95.

But I guess customers who are not familiar with the Takara version will buy it and also the Takara batches have been running low and of course not to mention the KO which is now involved may make people buy this instead.

awesome, hopefully my local toysrus will have this :) I haven't gotten around to getting a takara version, then was worried about getting a KO one without knowing

The $100 price tag is expensive and inconsistent with previous pricing of rebooted Hasbro MPs, which were reasonably affordable. I think RRP for Acid Storm and Soundwave were $100 & $150, respectively.

Hard to tell, but the box looks oversized for the toy. A big box therefore commands higher pricing?

D'oh, no missile launchers. Have to track down a third party

23rd April 2014, 06:45 PM
For AU$100 I was really expecting a 2-pack for that sized figure. It's almost half the size of Acid Storm, but the same price.
A big window-less box will disappoint some people who don't know how small the toy really is. (no launchers and similar colours to the JP version... people should just buy the JP version if it is still cheaper)

So with this being MP4, MP3 is either Grimlock (mockup packaging was at US Toyfair) or Sunstorm (the only other MP currently in TRU computer systems with Prowl, so should be next with Prowl).

Dunno if it's just the pics but the paint looks like a duller white than takara. Takara's prowl is a nice pure white whilst hasbro looks like it's been yellowed a bit.

Might just be my eyes though lol.

I dont' think the box will be as big as soundwave/acidstorm but i agree that the box looks bigger than it should be. Maybe there's a reason for the box size? additional items to justify the price?

Question is...will this shelf warm? or will it end up like Soundwave?

The price is an unpleasant surprise. May not be worth waiting for Hasbros Magnus now if this trend continues.

Wow that is certainly a shocker. Takara's version being much cheaper? Doesn't make sense really. The new packaging style is pretty nice, I'll give it that- but that's all it's got. For that price one could get just about 2 early bird Takara prowls...

Was considering getting a second mp22 going with hasbro ver but seeing this price tag...

^Totally agree. One of the strong points with Hasbro MPs over TakTOM's of late has been the cheaper price tag. But now that's been taken away w/ MP Prowl slated to cost far above TakTOM's RRP (even with the cost of shipping). :(

On the plus side, Prowl seems to be virtually identical to his TakTOM counterpart, so there doesn't seem to be any skimping on cosmetic quality as we've seen w/ previous Hasbro versions of MPs. But it still doesn't justify the massive price hike. At this rate, I don't see the advantage of skipping TakTOM MPs in favour of local Hasbro releases anymore.

If the box were laced with gold. :p ;) But I cannot see how additional cardboard justifies an additional $30 to the TakTOM RRP.

Makes me glad that I've preordered Wheeljack and Bumblebee. I was actually on the fence about whether or not to preorder MP Ultra Magnus or wait for the local Hasbro release (as there shouldn't be any issues with the Freightliner vehicle licence), but at this rate I might as well just preorder the TakTOM version and pay below Japanese RRP if the Hasbro AU version might end up costing a lot more than full JP RRP!

Gotta admit that $100 is pretty sharp. But perhaps Hasbro are thinking the the Masterpiece name alone justifies a higher price. Odd though as plastic for dollar wise, Optimus is much better value.

It wouldn't surprise me if they made a cheap Ultra Magnus when the time comes, keeping him along the lines of Optimus. Just bad news for any littler chaps when they may come out later though. The best strategy could be, buy the little guys from TT and the big guys from HB.

To me this seems like a blatant attempt by Hasbro/TRU to see how much they can milk out of us. The problem is that nearly everyone that wants one already has Prowl. Basically they want to charge us $100 for a fancy box.

No dice Hasbro. No dice.

drifand
23rd April 2014, 09:27 PM
I think they are counting on US/Aus customers as Takara imports do not make it to our shoal. Overall, $100 is no different than actually buying from Ebay now, and you get the launchers with it.

Wow - the price???!!!:eek: What's the point Hasbro? I got my Prowl for $80 (incl shipping from O/S), and it came with extra launchers, AND I got it 6 months ago!!!

They seriously misjudged this one.

Could this be a licensing issue affecting the price?

The price inconsistency compared to the previous (post mp 10) releases and prowl is logical if that is the key issue. Those mp releases so far have not needed any licensing and have been cheap for their size compared to their Takara counter parts, yet if one considers licensing affecting this prowl- makes sense that some part of the inflated cost could be due to licensing fee.

If that is true, then I wonder if it's just hasbro US settling the license fee or it is a separate license for hasbro in each region/ country it distributes to. On that basis, it follows that a licensing fee for hasbro Australia would be required.

Could be totally wrong though...

Edit: ok so looking at the packaging for this version, it doesn't display the Nissan badge/ logo, as the Takara version has. But the figure itself, is unchanged so still branded with the Nissan badge on the hood. So technically licensing would still be relevant, however it's odd that they would not advertise the brand showing its a licensed product.

It'll be a question to ask at BotCon, why Hasbro's Prowl is more expensive than the JP one. Or if it the American one is significantly cheaper than the JP one, I'll see what Hasbro Australia or TRU Australia has to say about the hefty price here.

That's about the same as TakaraTOMY's already expensive RRP for MP Prowl. :(
TakTOM's full price is 6090JPY (64AUD/59USD)

Recently even the AU prices for MPs has been substantially cheaper than TakaraTOMY's. Now it seems that Hasbro USA have gone and matched TakTOM's prices, with the AU price exceeding even that. Up till now, the AU price for recent MPs has been, on average, 1.6 times cheaper than TakTOM's full RRPs. The AU RRP for MP Prowl appears to be swinging in the opposite direction, being approx. 1.5 times dearer than TakTOM's RRP. :(

Ur you still can get this under if you act now plus you get two launchers. In fact, isn't a few of our members selling theirs?

To be honest, you can grab the Takara version with launchers if lucky still under $100.

But I can foresee some who just love the box.

some of our members who are selling without launchers:
Dangermot is still selling:
x1 MP-17 Prowl $75 still available

panterali is also selling
MISB MP17 Prowl $60

So I do not see anyone should say I missed out as these are very reasonable.

I've paid about $85 AUD delivered for all my MP cars as I've been buying well after release so to me the $100 doesn't look that bad considering all mine have been ordered without the coins or launchers etc. However I can see that when you compare it to $100 for the Seekers, $140 for MP10 Prime or $150 for MP02 Soundwave and Cassettes it does seem expensive, although I paid $200 AUD delivered for MP11 Starscream... Now that is pricey... He has sold for some good prices in the for sale section on here too.

I think it's not so good considering that you're comparing the appreciated aftermarket price that you paid for your MP cars versus what is going to be the current market price for MP Prowl at Toys R Us. It's almost as if TRU are telling us, "We've gone ahead and inflated the price for you - you can buy this toy at tomorrow's prices today!" :/ :p
