View Full Version : TF4 Movie promotions around the world - random & minor ones

Now that quite a few promotional displays and cross-promotions are popping up that aren't significant news on their own (and clogging up this section), I figured an all-in topic might be worth doing for the few who might be curious.

In Texas, the whole side of a 13 storey carparking building is one big movie poster (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-just-movie-31/transformers-age-of-extinction-13-story-display-179800/), of Lockdown and his ship.
Not the biggest promotional poster for Transformers, as I remember there being a few for the each movie that covered the sides of 20-30 storey buildings (including this one I took in 2009 in LA (http://www.toycollectors.com.au/bc09/t42.jpg))
(this is why the marketing campaigns of big-budget movies these days sometimes cost as much as the movie itself)

Speaking of big, these TF3 statues in China look to be about 6-storeys tall (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-just-movie-31/transformers-4-age-of-extinction-promotional-campaign-in-china-179582/). Not sure if it is for something official, as they are TF3 figures... or maybe they took so long to build, they didn't know what the fourth movie figures would look like.

And this 3-D (flat layered) display outside of Paramount Studios in Hollywood, (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-just-movie-31/completed-transformers-4-age-of-extinction-grimlock-pop-up-display-179792/)of Optimus riding Grimlock.

They make for a nice souvenir, than a small paper ticket, or exclusive-deco popcorn bucket.

There have already been found a number of cinema souvenirs in America coming for the TF4 movie, so expect some things here like fancy cups or popcorn buckets too.

First of the TF4 toy commercials have been found on youtube from Poland (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rHwueOQfLY)... so the narration is in Polish.
Fun to watch, at least until we get an English version.

Reminds me very much of some late 80's commercials

The Polish commercial has now been found in English (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-toys-products-30/transformers-age-of-extinction-english-toy-commercial-179867/).

Various other marketing pitches around the world (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-toys-products-30/transformers-4-age-of-extinction-promotional-campaigns-around-the-world-179859/), including a train in China painted up.

Plus a good version of the recent Chevy marketing video (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-just-movie-31/official-transformers-4-age-of-extinction-chevy-commercial-179856/).

A midnight launch of the toyline in Singapore at ToysRUs (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-toys-products-30/transformers-4-age-of-extinction-toyline-singapore-midnight-launch-party-info-179879/) (May 16), shows off some of the special stuff on offer, and mentions some of the activities planned.

They will be selling the (as yet unknown) TRU exclusive Platinum 2-pack of Optimus & Grimlock, with a limited number of bonus goodie bags if you buy it at the promotion, that includes movie tickets, poster and a pair of metallic figurines (Gen1 & Movie Optimus)

Plus, the person with a TRU Star Card who spends the most that night will win a golden Leader Class Optimus toy (which is likely to go to a toy dealer, who would have the resources to "outbid" private collectors just to secure a toy that could easily fetch a couple thousand dollars on ebay).

be the first to own the figures from the TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION movie. Fans can also revel in fun-filled activities such as putting their skills to the test in a race against fellow fans to convert TRANSFORMERS figurines; and have their photos taken with their favourite Transformers characters. What’s more, the top spender of the night will win a Gold-Chrome Transformers 4 Optimus Prime Leader (with display case), limited to Toys’R’Us Star Card members only.

The Transformers 4 Platinum Edition Optimus Prime and Grimlock, available only at Toys’R’Us, will be launched at this event. Fans who purchase this item during the event will stand a chance to receive a pair of TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION movie tickets, a Transformers paper bag and movie poster, along with Miniature 2-inch Optimus Prime Then & Now metal figures.

The link also mentions an App for people to roar into their phone to contribute decibels of noise to the target of a million, and if your recorded decibels is high enough, you get a freebie at the TRU event. (the store is the one that was next to the Hotel I was staying at in 2012).

(since the three major department stores here have broken the street date, I imagine that if anything was being planned here by TRU, it's not going to mean as much if it still goes ahead)

I believe griffin has these listed as May TRU (AU?) exclusives, however, I just saw this over at TFormers.net: http://tformers.net/g/generated/23235/Lion%20City%20Roars%20Toys%20R'%20Us%20Singapore%2 0Event%20Gold%20Optimus%20Prime%20Exclusive%20Tran sformers%204%20Age%20of%20Extinction%20Images%20an d%20Details%20(12)__scaled_800.jpg (from the news article at: http://tformers.com/lion-city-roars-toys-r-us-singapore-event-gold-optimus-prime-exclusive-transformers-4-age-of-extinction/23235/news.html) regarding the TRU Singapore event for AOE.

Looks like the Then & Now sets may be mini metal figures, according to the description and pictures. Since the "leaked" TRU images included photos of existing Takara MP Prowl, a custom Sunstorm, and hybrid-style Prime, I would assume they are all totally fake, and the Singapore details for "Then & Now" are probably accurate. Whether the regular versions are painted or what, I have no idea, but I thought it was interesting enough to post, and I hadn't heard anything else about it.

Unless its a Expo exclusive? TakaraTomy did tiny 2" metal figures for the previous movie, and sold them in gashapon lucky dip machines.

The two figurines are an exclusive of the Singapore midnight launch on the 16th (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?p=412557#post412557). They may show up elsewhere, but are NOT from a "Then & Now" set.
The Singapore promotion is just using the "Then & Now" label on those two figurines, because they are Gen1 & Movie styled figurines.
(the actual Optimus Then & Now 2-pack is priced as being 2 Voyager Class toys)

Taiwan ToysRUs has a toy-launch promotion as well (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-toys-products-30/taiwan-transformers-age-of-extinction-lucky-draw-optimus-prime-and-bumblebee-179897/) (with Singapore and Japan), so maybe our TRU might have one as well on the 16th.

Looks like another gold coloured Optimus, plus a silver Bumblebee... along with some themed headphones.
If we have a promotion here, hope they bring a gold Optimus here as well.

It mentions 35 of their many markets, so something could end up filtering to here with the biscuits and TV spots.

The biscuits look to have moulded Autobot symbols on them.

A full image of the offers on yesterday at the Singapore (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/transformers-age-of-extinction-silver-chromed-deluxe-wave-1-figures-asian-market-launch-promo/30236/), shows us a LOT of free stuff... for an event that I doubt would have attracted that many people. (and I've been to that store to know that it wouldn't have the room to fit more than a couple hundred people outside it)

There were SIX different offers/incentives for customers.

1 - Everyone purchasing a Transformers toy received a catalogue and sticker sheet.

2 - The first 300 received a SG$10 "Hasbro Voucher" (maybe $10 off a future Hasbro toy purchase... which would be about AU$8.50)

3 - The first 100 people to spend over SG$250 (about AU$212) will get a free "chrome sprayed" Wave 1 Deluxe (Slug, Scorn, Crosshairs, Bbee).
(only the alt-mode is chrome sprayed, leaving concealed robot parts in their original colour)

4 - The person who spends the most that night who is a Star Card member, gets a gold coloured Leader class Optimus with a display case.

5 - Every purchase of the Platinum Edition 2-pack Optimus & Grimlock gets 2 movie tickets, poster, bag and 2 figurines.

6 - Every purchase of over SG$30 (about AU$25 - a Deluxe), gets a free Custom Kreon.

The silver chromed figures look nice in their alt-modes, and come in a display box which has their bubble nestled inside.
I guess it means there must be a fairly cheap process for chrome spraying of toys... with 100 of them done for this promotion, and only requiring people to spend about AU$212 (which has to also pay for those toys purchased).

It would be nice if we had these sorts of promotions here... but with the prices and availability of product in the last few years, there is little interest from the consumers to be hyped up about something like this. (it would need to draw in more than just the local fans to that store to be worthwhile doing... and we just don't have the groundswell of support from those who aren't hardcore enough to be part of fandoms like ours) :(

Similar freebies as the Singapore evant.

First 600 to spend over RM250 (about AU$83) on TF4 toys - get a set of free "Then & Now" figurines.

First 100 to spend over RM650 (about AU$216) on TFs toys - get the set of figurines, PLUS, a chrome-sprayed Deluxe toy, a pair of movie tickets (only to the first 50 Star Card holders), AND in the draw for the golden Leader class Optimus.

The boxes are huge, if you know how much space all those toys can take up.

Another product being pimped out to Transformers this year - Nu Green Tea (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-toys-products-30/transformers-4-age-of-extinction-nu-green-tea-commercial-180320/).

And touring India is a replica metallic statue of Optimus (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-just-movie-31/transformers-4-age-of-extinction-optimus-prime-statue-ready-to-tour-india-180321/)... which they note as being 12 foot tall, but is barely 8 foot (two people standing on its sides are a lot more than half its height).

After all these promotions and advertising, it's no wonder it is being predicted (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-just-movie-31/transformers-4-age-of-extinction-box-office-debut-predictions-180316/) that the opening weekend in America will be a record breaker of over US$100 Million.
One thing I've been seeing on wiki pages of recent blockbuster movies, is that some will note the advertising budget as well as the movie budget, as many Distributors are spending as much money promoting the movie as it cost to make it... which should really counting towards the overall cost of the Movie (and if it really was profitable).
So after seeing the massive amount of advertising and TV spots of TF4 around the world, it wouldn't be hard to believe that $100-200 Million was spent just getting people to see it, on top of its $165 Million budget (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transformers:_Age_of_Extinction).

If the prediction is correct, expect double from non-US markets, as that's the usual ratio with movies. So just with its first weekend globally, they should make back their entire Movie and Advertising budget... and then the rest is profit... guaranteeing TF5 & TF6.

A couple of new promotions in Taiwan, including the most unusual one I've seen since the free toy promotions for buying a car (Aveo & Toyota).

A certain real estate company in Taiwan (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-just-movie-31/buy-a-house-in-taiwan-get-transformers-stuff-180571/) will give out a Transformers prize pack to those who buy or sell a house through them until August 31st... which includes a computer, speakers and a cooler.

And then over at Burger King (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-toys-products-30/burger-king-taiwan-age-of-extinction-dog-tags-giveaway-180573/), the next five weeks have freebie dog-tags - one each week, with a different character each week.

There have certainly been some weird Transformers themed promotions with this movie, and this would have to be one of the strangest.

In Korea, a face-mask applicator for skin-whitening (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-news-rumors/994170-innisfree-transformers-whitening-mask.html), that comes in either Optimus or Bumblebee design.
(for those unfamiliar, there are treatments and surgeries commonly available in some Asian countries to help make them look more caucasian... thanks to fashion magazines and other western marketing influences - similar to how we have teens and young adults wanting plastic surgery for things they don't need it on)

Back to the Oreo cross-promotion, it looks like Oreo in South America are releasin (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-toys-products-30/transformers-age-of-extinction-crosshairs-oreo-cookie-exclusive-180964/)g a box with Crosshairs, biscuits and stickers.
The toy is said to look the same as the regular one... so is more of a completist item.

Apparently the first four Deluxe figures are in this promotion (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-toys-products-30/oreo-transformers-giveaway-scorn-and-high-octane-bumblebee-180986/), which people can win from enclosed codes in the Oreo biscuit packs.

One of the cross-promotional items was for a Chinese SUV vehicle, and a 2 minute commercial has been released (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-just-movie-31/transformers-age-of-extinction-gac-trumpchi-gs5-suv-commercial-181396/) using some locations from the Movie... and this car was included in the movie somewhere.

Press Release for the Oreo promotion (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-just-movie-31/official-press-release-for-oreo-transformers-4-partnership-new-tv-spot-on-may-15th-179961/). It mentions 35 of their many markets, so something could end up filtering to here with the biscuits and TV spots.

The biscuits look to have moulded Autobot symbols on them.

I had hoped that we'd get an Oreos promotion here as well, out of the 35 countries that apparently did, but we didn't.

However, I found at the Reject Shop on the weekend, some imported Indonesian-made Oreos for Indonesia, Thailand, and I think Vietnam... with Transformers AOE advertising on them, and 12 "free" random stickers enclosed in the box. It was a box of twelve 3-packs, for $3.50. Not the best value, at 10 cents per biscuit... and I don't think Oreos are very nice compared to other cream biscuits (or a lot of other types of biscuits like Timtam or Shapes), but are so heavily promoted in America and a family tradition now, I guess it's like our Vegemite to them. :p

Unfortunately, they didn't have the moulded Autobot symbols on them like in the first advertisement about them. (maybe no biscuits had them, and it was just a photoshop image for the advertisement)

They have a June 2014 production date on them, and are best before June 2015... so still "edible" if you wanted to look for them at your nearby Reject Shop.

Were they supposed to have an autobot symbol on the biscuit itself?
The ones here never did...

The HK version of these packs are all in the discount bins at my local shop only ours have flavours associated with them. I can't stand Oreos but according to my daughter the Bumblebee flavour (yellow filling) is gross and the Optimus Prime flavour (purple filling) is nice.

They had the Autobot symbol on the biscuits in the advertisement, but it doesn't sound like they were on any of the actual biscuits.
They weren't even pictured on any of the packs that I could find with a google-image search... so I would have thought that if they had specially moulded biscuits, they'd be used on the packaging instead of, or with, the regular Oreos moulded biscuits.

I did find this one image (http://themetapicture.com/transformers-oreos-in-disguise/) of what looks to be a biscuit with an Autobot symbol on it, but none of the sites that had a copy of this image had any notation of if it is real or where/when it came from... leading me to think that it was either a fake/photoshop, or some of them were randomly inserted into packs for kids to look out for.
