Asian sources should hopefully have it for less... $250 is a bit much to pay for a toy that Hasbro will also be releasing this year in slightly different colours, for about $60 (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=18374&highlight=grimlock).

Great to those who have yet to secure an MP-8X King Grimlock. :)

Timing isn't something I'm good at. I purchased the Asian Exclusive MP Grimlock only to find out some months later that the 30th Anniversary logo MP Grimlock reissue was to be released (& bought that one as well :p).

I feel sorry for the guy who just very recently spent US$770 for the first run.

Looks like I'll be taking mine off the Sales thread. :o

It is what it is at the time though. I seen people still willing to pay $200 for mp-13 soundwave where stores still have stock.

This is the year of Grimlock and optimus to reissue. This is why I am holding back for a mp-10. I think $250 is a very fair price for that colour. I am okay with it but can live without for me.

I would recommend people to snap it if they have long waited for this.

I am glad more people get to own this figure. It is beautiful and so is the box (imo G2 Sideswipe should have been packaged or even coloured similarly).

Many people hated this deco when it originally came out and i am not going to lie, i got some small joy as this ugly duckling became a revered figure. I think now is the time for more people to feel that joy. He is beautiful, do not miss this.

If you are still desperately wanting to get rid of it at a good price, pop it on ebay ASAP for $400-500 BIN and you might get someone who doesn't know about the re-release, or wants the original (as the reissues can often still be different).

Do we know if this will be a Hasbro HK reissue or Takara reissue?

And for anyone scoffing at the $260 price tag keep in mind this version of Grimlock had a limited first run and cost about the same first time round. He also was over $1000 MISB on ebay till this reissue was announced. I know some very happy people that he is being reissued. I'll get him myself as I always intended to get MP-08X to have in robot mode next to my MP-08 in dino mode.

Something that I have read is that the latest reissue of Grimlock is suffering some mould degradation, mainly in the shoulder ball joints. A few people on TFW have complained about their Hasbro Asia Grimlock not being able to keep his arms raised.

I do not know whether this is fact or exaggeration or what. Just something I read. Anyone have the Hasbro Asia version and can confirm/rebuke?

Megatran
20th May 2014, 10:43 PM
^ Both my Asia Cybertron Con Exclusive & 30th anniversary logo MP Grimlock don't have shoulder issues with the ball joint. Grimmy can hold his sword & gun, arms raised or other fancy arm poses.

Instead, the hip joints are not as tight as I would like.

Agreed. I have no problem with HasTak "daring" to add new bonus features to subsequent versions of a toy. Why not? I think it's a pretty cool idea. :)

I personally only have the original Hasbro version, and I have intention of getting any other version. If someone who already has a previous version really wanted the throne that badly, they could sell off their other one and get this one.

This is what Grimlock's throne looked like in G1:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/goktimusprime/Transformers/grimlock_throne_zps6d8c7d30.jpg

Given the size, I'd be impressed if the throne was actually sculpted from plastic rather than a fold-up cardboard prop (akin to MP01 and the original MP Ultra Magnus' trailers).

And we don't know if there will be more in the future either. It's a risk that is made worse with all of the recent reissues too. If people are willingly handing over their money at the time, then getting the hurts because they announce a reissue later on down the track...

Finally got the new reissue of MP-8X King Grimlock with the Throne accessory. Glad to say Grimlock is awesome, but this separate throne is ABSOLUTE GARBAGE!! If you're thinking of getting it, do NOT get the throne!! Total waste of money!! It was a bit of a bitch to assemble together too!

I notice that this is a pure Hasbro accessory, with no reference to Takara on the box or item. I didnt think Takara would be that stupid to put their name on something this ridiculous.

How can you just unscrew it and spin it around? The piece is supposed to be a mirror image of the one of the other arm. They made the error in using the same piece for one arm but installing it on the other. You cant just spin it around and screw it in the same.

You complain about the throne pretty heavily (between your review and on these boards), but it's worth noting that in the markets it is designed to be sold in, the throne is (correct me if I'm wrong) a free premium. Shipping costs between secondary suppliers and customer demand (ie: the expectation that people will pay more).

That's hardly something to complain about Hasbro for, is it?

Don't get me wrong, crap is crap, but realistically, were Hasbro Asia charging for it? If not, I don't think you can call them out for it being cheaply made.

I've no idea if Hasbro Asia are charging for it, as I think BBTS and TFSource are both asking around $20 extra for it. I dont even know of any retailers in Taiwan (which apparently is the target country for this release) that are listing this.

For me, the Asian exclusives include the coins, and I can most definitely say the coins are far better quality than this throne. At least the coins are molded nicely and are metal! The throne is hollow plastic like a kid's mask. I wouldnt mind if it was hollow but a complete closed hard plastic throne. That would be far better and more stable.

I agree, the throne is disappointing, but BBTS mentioned they are being charged more to ship the throne to them, and thus the extra cost. I just think it's harsh to be so tough on what is intended as a free premium for the intended market, y'know?

Perhaps my initial impressions might have been different if the cost was nil, but I think even then I would've been disappointed and voiced the same opinion. A couple of folks here seemed quite insistent on paying around $40-$50 for me to ship the throne to them! I'm still in two minds about that cos I seriously feel like I'd be screwing them over! lol

About BBTS though, has anyone ever had to deal with them about a replacement? I have been assured that they are great, but they have not responded to my email with the details on the manufacturing error, and it's been about 3 days now!

They are prompt enough, three days for a standard reply is long. Did you get an email receipt when you contacted them?

You complain about the throne pretty heavily (between your review and on these boards), but it's worth noting that in the markets it is designed to be sold in, the throne is (correct me if I'm wrong) a free premium. Shipping costs between secondary suppliers and customer demand (ie: the expectation that people will pay more).

That's hardly something to complain about Hasbro for, is it?

Don't get me wrong, crap is crap, but realistically, were Hasbro Asia charging for it? If not, I don't think you can call them out for it being cheaply made.

Yep it was a free premium no point in complaining about it since as far Hasbro is concerned it's a free extra. The reason you got charged extra is BBTS and TFsource had to pay extra to have it shipped to the US so they had to pass on the cost (at least thats what BBTS said about the extra cost).

Yes, I got the usual customer service auto reply email response indicating they received the email and would reply as soon as possible. Problem is they have no phone number to call, so customers are pretty much forced to wait for email responses. Hopefully they email tomorrow. If not, I guess I can only email them again.

You're not the only one who has the problem with two right elbow joints. They are possibly contacting Hasbro or waiting for a reply from them about it if it's widespread - dunno...

Contacting them again after three business days wouldn't be unreasonable, to me anyway. :o

You can't blame the live band for not being worth the price you paid the scalper. Disappointment is one thing, but for a free premium, I don't think it's fair to rake Hasbro over the coals (on this one!).

Big Bad were awesome when I had a YOTH MP Optimus have a defective axe. They got a replacement organised and shipped it to me at no cost. Give them time, I'm sure they'll sort you out.

And the best weapon against scalpers is to not give them business. :)

Depends on how much you want the sold out tickets/toys not distributed in Australia, doesn't it? :P

At the end of the day, it is (apparently) a logistics cost. Fair enough - it certainly adds to the dimensional weight of the product!

Just got my MP-08X from Tober, loving the toy and the box. Looks like my figure has been assembled correctly.:)
