View Full Version : Will you be buying the 2014 MP-3 Grimlock?

griffin

It is the year of the Dinobots, so this could be popular, but...

It is also a toy that is expensive, and has been released here before in similar colours & accessories. (not to mention twice in Japan, and twice more in Hong Kong)

This figure is US$60 in America (about AU$67), but will be sold at ToysRUs here for AU$130 (should be in JULY), so since it is a higher markup than normal for us, will this affect the number of people intending to buy one here?
(importing it online will cost AU$100-120, so would only be a worthwhile option if there are no sales here for Grimlock)

So, will you be buying the 2014 MP-3 Grimlock toy here?
- Yes, at the full $130 price in case it sells out before a sale
- Yes, but only if it goes on sale for $100
- Yes, but only if it goes on sale for $80
- No, I will import it online
- No, I already have the earlier version
- No, I'm not even interested in it

No - already have the Takara Tomy version but I recommend it to anyone else as he could conceivably scale with CHUG should the owner find him too small for Masterpiece.

Probably. He'll stay sealed though, next to Soundwave & Acid Storm

Yes, because I don't have any versions of this mold yet.:D

One question though, how do you know its $125?

I have bought mine from TRU U.S. Though I'm yet to see it.

Probably not, I have the original Takara Release, though I've never removed it from the bubble. have to do that at some point. :o

Nope, I too already have the original (Hasbro) version and am entirely content with him. :)

Now that you mention it .... yes. But only if its during a % off sale. I've forked out enough dosh for several other colour decos and can't justify the TRU full RRP.

I want to, but it's whether or not I see one. $125 is good compared to ebay prices, but horrible compared to US TRU prices. Very much on the fence, but I really do want one!

MP Grimlock is a great looking figure, but it's also a very simple toy for a large Masterpiece.

It's well worth adding to your collection if you don't already have one, but I'm happy with my Takara one.

Now if they released a blue G2 MP Grimlock I'd be inclined to buy it again.

I can spend the $125, but I'd really feel comfortable with it being at least $100.

If TRU's 25% off coupon sale is available at the time, he should sell for $96.50 :)

Same with me, Im hoping there is a 20% off coupon or sale during its release.

Yep, I'd be 100% behind such a release and would buy one in a heartbeat! :D

Is that now the confirmed price? I was going off the one you quoted two weeks ago.

I have the first issue of MP-08 on my shelf and have the reissue of MP-08X on order so I have no want or need for a Hasbro version.

I would just so that i can play with it and leave my MP08 on display. :)

No, I have a previous version but I voted 'not even interested'. I am not even interested in that pale ass hasbro grey - I believe this is the worst looking release of that mold.

I have Takaras version already. Can't justify spending money on another one atm. Unless it's cheap :p

Although there doesn't appear to be huge interest according to the poll, I still firmly believe this Hasbro MP Grimlock will fly off the shelves given his popularity as a character ... Just not in the same league as when Hasbro MP Soundwave was released last year. Now that was mass hysteria.

I'll be keen to find out if people (non-TF fans) end up buying utter ridiculous quantities in one transaction for the reason other than to get one for a fellow mate. We all heard what happened to the chap in the US on another TF forum who bought large quantities AND posted it up on their board.

Yeah, I got mine about 4/5 years ago but I know a few mates who would like to pick up one if he becomes cheap :)

I think they will sell out as well, but mostly by toy dealers/scalpers thinking that they will be able to get $200-300 for them, especially when the Movie comes out and people are doing ebay searches for "Grimlock"... but as we see here, there aren't too many of us who want one who'd be desperate enough to pay that, so as long as they don't clean out stores by buying 10 at once, current members here shouldn't have a problem finding one if they keep an eye out on our news section (or join up to our twitter feed).

Looking on ebay, the ones released in America are all selling for US$100-150, which is a pretty good profit margin on US$65 (incl tax)... but as the Movie draws closer and every man and his dog has "Grimlock" in their head, I'm not sure if there will be a saturation point that has the prices coming down.
But still hedge your bets by asking your nearest store if you can reserve one if you really want one. (if they start taking names closer to its release)

That's it, isn't it? Everywhere you look there are Dinobots featured, so fans young and old will know or have some idea of who he is. This guy won't be another Acid Storm sitting around.

Still, he won't be the same as the movie as he's G1. Would it matter to the younger movie fans?

I was going to get this guy but I doubt I will see him on shelves much like I never saw MP Thundercracker  , so ive had little interest in this release.

And for people who don't know about Grimlock, dinosaurs are still cool; robot dinosaurs, even better.

I'm pretty new here so sorry if I'm in the wrong thread. I purchased a US Hasbro Masterpiece Grimlock, I received it today but appears to have been opened and resealed. It was descripted as Factory Sealed. I have messaged the seller and waiting for a response. I'm a little concerned as there are KO's. I tried to google with no luck but I was looking for a HASBRO vs KO comparison guide. I've found photo comparisons before for previous counterfeits. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

The 2014 release with the rectangular box and the vertical band? No KOs to my understanding.

I was more thinking someone swapping the Hasbro figure inside for one of the many loose KO's on ebay.
Reading that back now does sound a little paranoid, I'm probably just jumping to conclusions.

Well Im just happy I got the earlier release sold at TRU - the one in the clear plastic case instead of a proper box. I can't remember how much was he sold back then, but I think I got him on sale or something... it was around the same time they sold MP Rodimus without a trailer version...so I voted NO, I already have the earlier version

I haven't gotten any other versions of this and it was one of my favourites when I was younger so yes I'll most likely be grabbing this!

That version features more tampos on the shoulders, exclusive to that version, bringing MP Grimlock more in line with the G1 toy.

For the record, it was $149.99 AUD.

I initially wanted to get the TakaraTOMY version, but my wife was pregnant around the time of its preorder - and I was already saving my money for Revenge of the Fallen toys - so I skipped it. But as someone who's always been more of a fan of the G1 comics over the cartoon, I'm glad I did, since Hasbro's MP Grimlock came with the crown instead of the brain-scanner and serving kit! :D King Grimlock > Butler Grimlock! And yeah, my MP Grimlock is always red-eyed too. ;)
