Are you ready to rock out with your zebra-striped bot out?

In an Entertainment Tonight exclusive story, the Transformers San Diego Comic Con exclusive for 2014 has been revealed to be an 80's Hair Metal Band themed box set named the "Knights of Unicron". The box set redecos Fall of Cybertron Optimus Prime and "Smooth Jazz", War For Cybertron Megatron and Soundwave, and Animated Laserbeak and Ratbat in 80's Hair Metal Band deco (complete with wigs, microphones, and armbands.)

Dated September 17, 1984, imagine you were there for the band's "One Night Only" reunion gig at Iacon Stadium on Cybertron. Sold Out, of course!

In honor of the 30th anniversary of the Transformers brand, this Special Edition collector's set transformers your favorite characters -- Optimus Prime, Megatron, Smooth Jazz and Soundwave -- as you've never seen them before: hard-rockin' robots in the universe's greatest band, the Knights of Unicron! Also joining the tour are Laserbeak, who converts into a note-shredding electric guitar, and Ratbat, who converts into the funkiest keytar this side of Cybertron.

The Transformers 30th Anniversary Tour Edition Action Figure Set is packaged in a concert-cool "roadie case," packed with special edition posters, stickers, a concert ticket, All-Access VIP pass, and tell-all history booklet depicting the journey of the Knights of Unicron, from their humble beginnings and formation to their stellar hits and "look" (glam rock deco, metal band hair), band infighting (the titanic egos that once tore them apart), and triumphant return to the stage. With KISS and Iron Maiden-inspired album art (and perhaps a little Spinal Tap thrown in for good measure), the Knights record Look What the Bot Dragged In features such smirk-inducing tune names as Circuit Breaker, Laser Phaser and Rust Without You. (Ages: 8 & up/Approx. Retail Price: $184.99)

The set will be available at Booth #3329 at Comic-Con International in San Diego, as well as Hasbro Toy Shop.

------------------------------

To summarize - it's a boxset of FoC Megatron, Optimus Prime, Jazz, and Soundwave done up as a metal hair band. With hair. And some TFA instrument beasts.

I'd mirror pics but my Photobucket is still phucket.

Just saw them on Facebook. I'd want them, but not at the scalpers prices. The guy at the collectors fair would try and hock it for $600 easy.

I really want this set, but the price tag is too much for me to afford, but if it's not a popular set it will most definitely go down in price overtime.

Hasbro, you keep using the statement "In honor of the 30th anniversary of the Transformers brand", I do not think it means what you think it means.

I actually had to think twice about whether it was april fools day when I read this :p

These look ridiculous. Look more like something from a gay Mardi Gras.

The bit I don't really understand is why Entertainment Tonight is covering comic book convention exclusive Transformer toys?

Also, how funny would it have been if the Knights vs Pirates theme from BotCon, had actually been these Knights fighting Cannonball et al.

I kind of like it, they've even got microphones, the asking price is a bit high but otherwise I think it's a pretty cool concept. I wish they'd had someone on a drumkit, that would have made almost any price worth my time.

I saw Optimus and thought it was some Ultimate Warrior tribute. Close enough.

But it's my kind of stupid, just not $400 worth of stupid.

:D
The only mistake they made was not using an eye-searing shade of pink on Jazz. How long is it gonna take?? Hasbro??

...Who wants to split a set? :p

Liking it heaps since I'm an 80s guy but not the price.

Cheesy. I like it, I don't like the awful colours for Optimus's legs though... That'll look like a cheap KO.

No Drum kit? No sale!

I'm going to buy a set and then I'm going to put TFTM Soundtrack up to 11 while i bust out these bad boys.

It should come with a free copy of the 1986 movie soundtrack, as most of those songs sound like "metal hair bands".

Hasbro (and other toy companies) certainly compete for attention at SDCC with these creations. It is getting very expensive keeping up with them each year... and this is just one toy Brand. (lucky I don't collect several toylines)

I wonder if the Look What the Bot Dragged In record that comes with the set has music or is it just an emptly cardboard sleeve?

FunPub must be loving the whole Knights theme this year to help promote their convention to the masses (the local walk-ins), from the Movie and Comics... making me think that the "Knights Vs Pirates" theme was chosen because they knew last year that it was one of the two main themes with the Brand this year (the other being Dinobots).

I agree with all of that. This seems so stupid  I always hated it as well, when they take personal favorite figures of mine and just stupid them up.

As soon as BBTS puts up a preorder I'll get them. They are super unique which makes them cool in my eyes.

Call me old fashioned but I really hate this rubbish that they've churned out as exclusives.
Seriously
And thus the appeal of 3P stuff is starting to grow on me a whole lot more.

That's crossed my mind as well

I'm not usually a fan of this kind of thing... you can keep your "shattered glass" and "pirates" and whatnot... but I find these strangely cool in a ridiculous kind of way. Completely stupid way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the brand, granted, but I'm finding it a shame I'll never likely own a set due to cost. Unless the negativity towards them ends up equating to high availability and lower prices!:p;)

Worst thing about this set would have to be the lack of a drummer.:D

I was wondering that as well the other (k)night. It just seems too much of a co-winky-dink for them to fluke it. Unless they are just really late on jumping on the "Pirates of the Carribean" bandwagon...:p Could be ;)

THIS! Yes, why no drummer????

The thing that's truly outrageous (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jem_(TV_series)) is that it spoils the end of the MTMTE comic: turns out Rodimus just really wants to go to a cover band rock concert...

;)

It's cool and perhaps worth it at it's normal cost due to its uniqueness factor but with the import costs and scalper prices that we will have to deal with pushes it far out of value range.

Bidoofdude

What?!? $190 is terrible. It was on Entertainment Tonight, so I bet a bunch of people will go out a buy it, thinking it good 'value'.

Easy pass. I wouldn't buy these even if they were regular store releases.

I think someone at Hasbro keeps leaking April Fools' jokes. Knights of Unicron. Platinum Edition Silver Knight Optimus Prime. Age Of Extinction.

Yep - this is so stupid it's great! Would love to own this lot, especially since I never got an Animated Ratbat. Like many others, will never own it due to the cost but I would set this lot up in pride of place in my collectors display :D

Ya just never see enough whimsical silliness and humor in TF's - hence why MTMTE is so popular ;)

a couple microphones and some repainted guitar bots are so much cheaper than designing, molds for even a half arsed drum kit, let alone a drumkit designed to have a robot sit at it and not look completely out of place with the rest of the set.

I choose to believe that Soundwave beatboxes for them and thus they don't need a drumkit.

This is all kinds of amazing. And its helping me realise that any communities or fans that reacted negatively to this are places and people I shoud avoid, as we'll never get on.

And after having seen it for the first time over Easter, if someone does not use these for a Spinal Tap recreation, I will cry.
